Well, he was my favourite United player. Shame but given the circumstances it's a good deal.

Nooo :(

Thanks for the memories, first time since Becks' and Keane's departure that I am really gutted about a player leaving (who is not retiring). Ronaldo by 2009 was so obvious anyway for a year so when he eventually left it wasn't that sad anymore.

The first reports I'd seen seemed to suggest the fees quoted were without Naylor's value factored in.

But people like Ducker reckon it's £25m plus Naylor who is valued at £15m.

If that's correct, that looks like a sensational deal in the circumstances to me!

Nah, Ducker says we're getting €25m + Navas, not £25m.

Sad to see him go, he would have gone down as an all time legend here had he stayed, possibly even surpassing the Great Dane.

Ah well, feck him, hope he concedes 18 goals every game.

Apart from Ducker, pretty much everyone reporting that it is 40 million Euros plus Navas for De Gea.

No idea how anyone can argue that this is a bad deal for a player in his last year of his contract. Certainly more than I'd have expected to receive.

I think, all things considered, you guys have done quite well in this deal. Real probably should have just started Navas for a season and taken De Gea on a free, in my opinion.

It's a shame his time at the club has come to an end so soon. It's been a pleasure to see him develop, and to see so many of his early critics forced to eat their words. Hopefully our new more robust midfield will be able to mitigate the impact of his departure.

Simon Stone saying it is just over £29m in total, which would seem the most likely price really.

They needed a "Galactico" signing and De Gea wanted to come. I believe he left because he wanted to be near his gf can't really be mad at him I think most of us would do the same for our gf...

Been expecting this since I first suggested he might be looking to leave last summer. Not shocked or bothered about the price either since his refusal to sign a new deal over the last 2 years meant our only leverage was to keep him and let him leave for nothing next summer. So we are weak at keeper and attack after finally fixing the midfield

Good deal for us, we were never going to keep him and to receive a good fee plus a decent keeper is the best we could have hoped for.

Dave :(

I hope we spend the transfer fee on a boatload of lube, so it won't hurt as much next time Real feck us :(

We would have lost him next simmer for nothing and have to pay 20m or more for a Navas lever or better replacement. We really couldnt have got much out if this deal as it is.

I once made a mistake to wish good luck to a player who wanted to leave us for that cirkus but won't do it again.

De Gea, i hope you get nasty cold when Messi put 5 past you and the cold will be so bad that you have to rest for the rest of the season. Meantime Casilla will do great and you will have meltdown because you couldn't break into the first 11 resulting in Madrid terminating your contract. And i hope noone will want you then because they will know what a prick you were at leaving us. I hope you then go bankrupt becose you will spend all money to help your girlfriend having a singing career which will be just a big failiure. I hope you two ended living under the bridge but don't worry. You two will be in Madrid so this will be fine and she will be happy.

There are so much confusion about the price.
According to Simon Stone the deal is worth £29.25M. The way I see it, Cash + Navas = £29.25M.
Which is what Ducker is reporting €25M + Navas = € 40M

If it's 39 million euro PLUS Navas, then we fecking robbed them. Navas is not really that far behind DDG. So I think Ducker's valuation makes more sense here.

Also they paid 10m euro for him so that would be a total of nearly €50m for someone with less than a year on his contract. I think we held out for this long because Madrid did not want to include Navas in there, they want to have two top keepers.

Exactly. €25m + Navas seems a lot more realistic.

Gutted. Took us a while to find another world class keeper. We gave him the opportunity and he was developing nicely. At the very least we're getting a tidy amount of cash to reinvest in the squad.

Hope we don't have to wait so long to get that position nailed down again. :(

So Dave is definitely the last of our Mendes clients right?

We need to find a British keeper, invest in him and make him sign a massive release clause.
We can't go through this again.

FFS Dave.

Decided to have a look myself for these quotes; and got this:

De Gea, además, reconoce que le "halaga" el interés de grandes clubes como el Manchester United aunque asegura que no se iría al Real Madrid ni con un cheque en blanco. "Sí que halaga, es bonito, pero estoy muy contento aquí. Lo del cheque es jugoso, pero es que llevo desde cadete B en el Atlético, sería muy difícil irme",
http://cadenaser.com/ser/2011/01/25/deportes/1295915295_850215.html

which google translates to this;
De Gea, also acknowledges that he "flattered" the interest of big clubs like Manchester United but says he would not go to Real Madrid or with a blank check . "Yes that flatters, is nice, but I'm very happy here. The check is juicy, but I've since cadet B Atletico would be very difficult to leave,"
