fault on both sides...We should have tied him for a longer contract after the second season and he should have worked with us to get a decent price for him....which Woody seemed to have done anyways, all things considered.

We are getting a decent keeper in.

This was the only possible outcome as it was the one that benefited all parties to a certain extent. Hopefully the "show madrid a lesson and bench De Gea for a season" gang learn a lesson and realise this isn't how business is conducted.

I'm very sad about this.

Even more so if it is true that his extension last year was taken away from him.

There's no denying that the deal being reported is a cracking result.

Okay so apparently Real Madrid fans are unhappy about this?
What makes you say that? Not that it would be particularly surprising. We've done surprisingly well out of this shit situation imo.

It seems like they want to keep Navas as he's been impressive for them, and that they could have just waited to get De Gea for free next season.

I'll never forget this.
Number 1 of all time in my books. Incredible

good deal this
- does not rot on bench all year creating bad mood
- does not leave free
- got a good keeper
- no romero in goal

Madrid Fans are not impressed.

David De Gea, welcome to Real Madrid - where it appears not a lot of the supporters really want you! Spanish newspaper Marca are conducting a poll of Real Madrid supporters to ask them if they agree with the purchase of De Gea from Manchester United and the sale of Keylor Navas going in the other direction.

The results are pretty emphatic, a huge 84% of fans are against the transfer, with the remaining 16% obviously being in favour. This isn't a small selection of fans, more than 16,500 have currently taken part. Whilst there's always the possibility of Barcelona fans infiltrating the poll, it's probably unlikely and the results go in line with previous polling of fans on the issue.

Real Madrid fans simply didn't see the point in paying a big fee for De Gea, given that he was available on a free transfer a year later. There's still some unhappiness over the way Iker Casillas was dealt with and anger at how Keylor Navas has now been treated.

Navas put in a good performance at the weekend including a penalty save and many fans think he's been treated appallingly. If De Gea doesn't perform well from day one then he's going to be under a huge amount of pressure at Real Madrid.

but booing their own players is fine though. David, they don't even want you, good luck with that. See you in the champions league, inevitably this season

Wow. Dave needs to prove himself instantly. One slip and they'll be at his throat. Be interesting to see what happens...

The noise about LvG not wanting to extend his contract right at the start, and not being sure about him general, surely has to be a lot of nonsense, right? I know LvG can be a bit mental, and has a tendency to over complicate things, but surely even he can see arguably the best goalkeeper in the world with his own eyes, and surely LvG had seen David de Gea play prior to taking the United job?

its been debated here before and plausible there is meat to it

Madrid have bastardised the galatico name.
Balague on Sky claiming he's madrids summer galatico. He's a goal keeper. Not known as this commercial juggernaught.
Madrid used to go out and target the worlds best players, that's what galatico means. Not whoever we sign will now be given that term.

LVG was not with us then. Woody wouldn't have let someone he hadn't hired dictate business such as this. Even if LVG decided he didn't want him, it would have nothing to do with signing the extension from our point of view as players can do that and be sold soon after depending on the circumstances. Why would Woodward not want to ensure we got a good sell on fee irrespective of what an incoming manager thinks?

Nothing is signed yet is it? Is there still a chance this all fecks up and Dave stays?

He's in for a torrid time there.

Sadly, from a United perspective, he's a very special character who will be incredibly focused and sure of his ability and will become a fans favourite and prove his quality.

Best of luck to him, I can't help but like him despite all this.

When does the transfer window close in Spain? How long left?

Its just rumours written by journos who do not know shit. There also are rumours of Dave instructing Mendes back in 2013 to get him to Madrid ASAP. Its just whatever you want to believe. My guess is he saw Moyes fecking it all up and he wanted to leave, thus rejecting contract renewals.
