It's not for FFP, but like Barca, poaching non-EU under-18's.
So this is something that is actually likely to happen?

Hard to understand why Madrid were so blaze about it in that case. If this is a serious factor it completely changes everything, it puts all the power in our hands. We could go into January holding all the cards and make a fortune.

The transfer-ban is a registering ban. They can sign players but can't register them. Pretty simple. Though I really doubt they enforce it on Real.

I read something last night about the club telling him to sign a new contract or never play another game for us. Brutal but it kind of appealing.
That would be great. I hope Casillas regains his form at Porto and keeps him out of the national team and that the story about Madrid maybe getting a transfer ban is true

I don't know about likely, but it's certainly a real risk.

Shambles of a situation, but at the end of the day, Real Madrid have to take a large proportion of the blame. It has been well noted that Real would have to stump up a particular some of money in order to sign De Gea and it is totally up to them whether they pay that or not. United could have pushed the situation sooner and thus avoid this awkward situation for all parties, but Real have to take most of the blame for leaving it so late themselves since the ball was firmly in their court. Man United were quite right to put their foot down and spell it out clearly to Madrid.

Interesting to see what happens now. DDG must be incredibly frustrated and disappointed, and it must be a difficult situation to be in. I wonder if the club will force him to sign a new contract by costing him a year of his career and a place in the Euro's or isn't that legal??

The club can't force him to do anything. He's already currently under contract and that runs out at the end of this season.

In 14 years time, we're going to look back on this moment and laugh as DdG retires as a GK for Manchester United having been our captain for the last decade of his career, and also being our record appearance holder, and record CL appearance holder. He will have a hatful of medals, and he will have found a new gf/wife.

Please quote this post at that moment too, thanks.

The club should probably make a joint statement with De Gea to explain their side of the story and assure that he'll do his best for the duration of his contract.

That's what they said about Barca, but they did fix it to give them time to sort their squad ahead of it.

We were supposedly made the example, plus our board handled it poorly. Now it's Real and Atletico, and they both stocked their squads so they may know what's coming, but I just can't see it happening. Perez himself is a FIFA football committee member.

I know, what I was saying is if United say "If you don't sign a contract, then you wont play for the rest of the season and thus will probably miss the Euro's." I'm asking if we are allowed to make those terms to DDG.

@Olly - your GIF made the Bleacher Report website

Although the Tweet of it they've shared is from somebody else. Does it hurt seeing other people retweet your stuff and getting hundreds of favourites?
Nah it's alright, I'm getting enough notifications and stuff at the moment, not sure I need any more

We are big losers in this. As are Real and David.

We are miles off winning the league and a world class GK for a season isn't going to help much when we are going to really struggle to score goals.

Yes. Real should have. Whatever the intention of United in faxing the agreement so late, I have my doubts about it being unintentional. If we did it on purpose, it was a good tactic.

Real lost big time. We have a risk, sure. But we have shown them and other clubs not to feck with us.

What logic does that have as a tactic, and what's the purpose? If United agreed terms with Madrid then it's because United was interested in the deal as well. It didn't materialize due to bureaucratic reasons.

If it's so beneficial to United to have this deal not happen then why did you start negotiating De Gea yesterday? You could have just kept it as it was.

I feel a bit sorry for him. He's a young lad, working away from his home country and saw a chance to return to his home city, at the most prestigious employer in the area. Who wouldnt jump at that?
Now its all fallen through, theres bad feeling from the fans, his manager can barely talk to him.

Whilst its funny to laugh at madrid messing up, theres 2 goalkeepers involved here who are left in limbo land. How must navas also be feeling now?

I'd get some respect back for LVG if he came out in public and said we'd look after DDG, that he rates him as one of the best keepers in the world and cant wait to work with him, and integrate him with the team again to challenge for trophies

I see no reason why not.

Of course you can.

Of course we are. Unless he signs a new contract, he should be nowhere near our first team training grounds.

Just a thought: How good/high potential does Kiko Casilla have? Is there any chance of him performing so well that Madrid actually won't be interested in De Gea next summer?

@carvajal @Vato ?
I think that he was bought to be in the bench. He is from the academy and is known for creating a good atmosphere in dressing room.I think that know everything will depend on De Gea,will be forced to renew to get minutes?what do you think?.If he renews then maybe will be with a low release clause. After all this mess Madrid should buy him

Don't think so. Freezing out a player who wants to play is breach of contract (there's precedent there), and he could argue that a new contract would be signed under duress, which would make it voidable.

Wait... Juan Mata retweeted one of your tweets?!

You've made it, man. I hope you'll still remember us now that you're a famous star.

I'm sure the club and van Gaal will behave in a professional manner.

Thats fine. I think when City hung Tevez out to dry, there were certain stipulations if he didn't play a certain number of games. I could be wrong.
Some players have a clause in their contract (like Thiago when he left Barca, if I'm not mistaken - don't remember if there was anything to it or just rumours), but I don't see why De Gea would have that. If it was a clause for all players then every fringe player could leave.

Not the right one. ;)

Which precedent is that? It's entirely up to the manager who he selects, and given what has happened he could easily point to that and play Romero instead ("long term", "head's in Madrid" etc.). As for signing a contract under duress - clearly won't happen either. If he signs one, it'll stick. He's a big boy now.

Even if we could we probably wouldn't want to. That would be almost certain to create bad feeling in camp and make us look like less than fantastic employers.

nah, youre talking like he left home to go working down the mines. if he wanted to leave that bad, put a transfer request in. didn't bother, kept nice n quiet. He will get 10 million just for walking through the gates at Madrid on a free

what irks me is that we were getting another keeper who didn't want to be here, what's the point in that? We have longer to think of a proper long term replacement

Holy shit  ... Nice one!

You also gave me over 1,000 points in the thread on Reddit... so I'm forever in your debt. (Second post from the top https://www.reddit.com/r/soccer/comments/3j52wm/onda_cero_de_gea_deal_has_not_gone_through_in_time/ ) I gave you full credit of course... probably should have linked to your twitter though, apologies for that!
Ha, no worries, congrats on the points :)

Unfortunately I don't think it's the real Juan Mata :(

You could equally twist that the other way though. Maybe he didn't put in a request because he respects the decision United make. He wants to go to Madrid, that much is obvious, but what has he really done to suggest that he is kicking up a big strop about not going this summer?
