Unless there's some truth in the £10m compensation rumours. If that was the case and RM didn't want the transfer to go through, why not just pull the plug? RM gained nothing by making the deal collapse the way it did.
To my fellow 531 voters, we did it!!!
I tell you what, I'd love to know what conditions Madrid changed, that meant we had to re-check the contract.
Wouldn't even be surprised if they tried to pull a fast one on the price, and thought we'd just accept it to get it done.
cnuts
You would hope that players remember how Navas has been treated here when deciding to sign for this lot. But it probably wont put them off though, unfortunately.Cant lie, I am not sad that this fell through..and I feel zero pity for him..absolutely none..He is an employee here for the next year, but other than that, definitely wont be cheering him for anything other than when its for United's benefit..We should defintely start the search for a new gk now, and it shouldnt be Navas.
However, I do feel pity for Navas..as fans we are quick tp point out unloyal players..but the way this guy was treated is classless..Madrid may be the most succesful team in Europe, but they are scum of the highest order.
I think Man Utd are a disgrace to England, and football as a whole for not instantly terminating his contract the moment Real Madrid displayed a sniff of interest.OMG i'm absolutely SICK of these people on the radio calling us "amateurs".
We clearly didn't want to sell him. What do you want us to do?! Initiate talks with Real?! These people are actually getting paid for this. Unbelievable.
We need to atone by ringing round Europe to see if anyone wants to buy any of our other players. As all well run clubs do.I think Man Utd are a disgrace to England, and football as a whole for not instantly terminating his contract the moment Real Madrid displayed a sniff of interest.
Cnuts, we are.

They will still be lining up to join and then cry when they are mistreated..You have to feel pity for Navas..he knows now that he is clearly not wanted..if he were smart, he should be looking to get out of there next season..Good perfomances this season wont help him whatsoever..ask Diego Lopes. You would hope that players remember how Navas has been treated here when deciding to sign for this lot. But it probably wont put them off though, unfortunately.
Same people who can't see any good in anything that has been done.Just imagine the shoe on the other foot...say, somehow, we didn't get the Martial deal done. Do you think, for one second, anyone would believe that it was Monaco's fault? Of course not - they would, very rightly, call Woodward and LVG jackasses, waiting until deadline deal to save a few pounds, only to feck up a deal where all you had to do was pay what was asked to get a player that wants to come.
But somehow, in the DDG case, we've got our own fans saying United were the incompetent ones for not getting it sorted earlier. Amazing.

Do not agree. Getting £29.5M for DDG and ending up spending £10M+ for Navas was not a good deal. Spending £29.5M on a similar standard GK would have been a good deal.Aye, this is definitely bad for us. That deal going through would have been better for everyone involved, which is presumably why everyone agreed to it.
yes, totally deserved, is a joke that a elite team can have those mistakes , although I would like to know the real version, United sent it on time, but Madrid version said that United spend many hours checking the contracts and I read the last weeks that United didn´t want to put a price until last days. In any case they shouldn´t be closing the deal some hours before the end. Do you think that De Gea will play even if he doesn´t renew?

Having DDG for a year to help us get further in CL and then get a similar standard GK is a far better deal.
That is like saying it was better to take Howard than wait for VDS.The assumption was that Navas was a goalkeeper we actually wanted as LVG had been linked with him before.
€25m + a goalkeeper we rate > De Gea for a year + having to spend more money on a goalkeeper we rate.
It's absolutely ridiculous, never seen anything like it. Both our clubs are coming out of this like incompetent idiots. Two of the biggest clubs in the world, fighting like children![]()
You accepted their first bid? Sounds like you really wanted him to stay.

I am sure the Navas deal was More a case of RM not wanting to go public with a deal which was very close to United' valuation rather then LVG wanting Navas. If the latter was true the deal would have been done weeks ago.

Please tell me where Real Madrid have ever botched a transfer a la Pedro, Thiago or Vidal.
We wanted to get DDG and you guys wanted to keep him but somehow we messed up this transfer.
Believe what you want to believe.![]()

Agreed.Fawning over a club statement is very RAWKish to me.
It's pretty childish from both sides, to be fair. What a mess.

I saw your edit. You had all summer to conjure up a fair offer and when you finally did, Madrid acted like incompetent idiots, not us. We wanted what was best for De Gea, while you have only increased your reputation for treating players like toys, not human beings.
