Someone talking about suing  For what exactly? I'd love to see that case in court, idiotic.

Also, SAF would never bench De Gea knowing his importance to the team. That would amount to daft man management, which actually makes it more likely it's something Van Gaal would do

Inching ever so closer.

The fact that there were basically pages of " " and what amounted to fist pumping over some simple statement from the club i++s just :wenger: But I guess when you've had the last year and half United have had, you take the happiness anyway you can get it
I love how you've airbrushed Moyesies tenure out of that timeline, when it was by far the worst time the club has had recently

Not surprising though, as you're a well known fanboy.

If SAF was around, De Gea would have never been in the last year of his contract. He would have been sold most likely still.

This comes back to Moyes and Woodward. First thing they should have done is extend De Geas contract in the summer of 2013, when we were champions.

Woody on roll!! He truly has fecked Madrid. Let's look forward now and see what happens in 4 months. Happy to have De Gea here and hope he plays

Kudos to the 531 votes(Including myself) that was confident DDG will be here next season. to those that changed their vote from Yes to No.

Did you mistakenly think the club was called Moanchester United when you decided to become a fan? I'm sure you'd fit right in at that club.

Are you even a football fans? Why are your posts so pathetic? You make the most asinine posts that have nothing to do with United, but only posters on this site. I am at loss as to where you fit in..

Madrid only have themselves to blame. They knew early on we valued DDG at 30-35mil, and wanted either Navas or Ramos in the deal, but they were so determined to show the world that they can get this deal sorted out completely on their own terms. Well that's too bad. It was well within their means to get this sorted a month ago, once the Ramos issue was put to bed. I can't even believe that anyone is trying to lay blame on the selling club.

As someone rightly pointed out, if the Martial deal had messed up, no one is going to blame Monaco no matter what the details are, because we were the ones who left it late. But i suppose painting United as bumbling, fumbling fools still makes for better news than the obvious truth that Real's arrogance caused this situation.

Now let's got DDG's head right, and go for that league title.

That won't be difficult at all. Next year is Euros and am sure he will want to the the starting goalie. It's in his own interest to get his head straight and focus.

Fawning over a club statement is very RAWKish to me.

It's pretty childish from both sides, to be fair. What a mess.

Yes it is. But the moment Madrid release a statement without anyone asking them, they open the doors. We have every right to respond else we would have looked like the guilty one.

Real Madrid had to be the proactive party in the transfer, United didn't have any incentive to facilitate the deal. If they wanted De Gea, they should've paid the appropriate fee, and tied the strings a while ago instead of grandstanding, and briefing Marca every single day.

I don't disagree with that. I am fully with you on this.

As for United, Van Gaal felt Romero could do a job, and that's fine by me, everyone knew he'd have his ups and downs but if the manager wants to play him, then that's the way it shall be, the upper management can't second guess everything he does, that will only undermine his authority as the de facto head of football operations. Van Gaal's reasons for excluding De Gea are partly understandable too, even though I personally don't agree with this approach, he felt that De Gea couldn't compartmentalize the white noise and perform to the best of his abilities, hence his omission from the starting XI, and even the bench.

That is the part I don't agree with. The upper management have to lay down the law somewhere. They have to say to De Gea and the manager, hey guys, this is how is it: If Madrid pay our valuation by this date, then well and good, De Gea can leave or he stays as money is not a big issue for us. We are not in a position of strength in this and we had to make a stand somewhere.

What if De Gea cannot compartmentalize the white noise and perform to the best of his abilities now? What choice do we have now? Keep playing Romero and risk our entire season? Who loses out in that case?

The statement wasn't irrelevant or childish from United's end. Madrid started the mudslinging competition for some odd reason, and United had to present their viewpoint, it's not often (if ever?) that you see clubs of the magnitude of Madrid resorting to petty bickering to absolve themselves of any blame for a failed transfer. That's not how clubs should operate. United needed to repay the courtesy in kind, instead of whimpering in a corner. The posturing wasn't designed by United, the club clearly stated that Madrid would have to pay a fee approaching Buffon's when he joined Juventus, the onus was on Real to come through. It's all fairly simple to be honest, and far too big a deal is being made out of it.

I don't know, mate, I would have personally liked for either of us to not say anything, than to start a mud slinging match. The usual line generally is "we don't comment on transfers".

I agree that this bickering, from first Madrid, and then our response is unbecoming of clubs of our stature. It's like we are trying to get one over each other. I would have preferred if we avoided it. I don't think a simple response of, "things didn't work out because of factors beyond our control" or something, would be whimpering out.

The only "deal" is our goalkeeping situation. Madrid will get on with life with Keylor Navas, it us, who are in a predicament now. Hopefully, it doesn't turn out to be a big issue and a fully focused Dave is between the sticks for the Lvierpool game. If not, then I don't know what we gained from all this.

United never put him on the transfer list. The obligation was on Madrid to follow up their interest.

Though, wasn't it in our benefit to resolve the situation earlier, Sultan? Does this help us in anyway?

PS: Hey! Tagline, and a good one too. Finally, made it on Redcafe, it only took me more than a year and 2000+ posts. Thanks, to whoever it was. :D

I can't believe some people are finding fault with United and the statement. It is awesome response from club! I don't understand where is the difficulty in understanding simple point of 'not wanting to sell a key player but not standing in his way if he wants out' and 'delighted that at end of transfer window that player is still with club.'

Anyway I hope agent Mata gets into act and starts convincing De Gea about contract extension already

Just an honest question, how do we resolve the situation earlier in your opinion?

After reading the different statements, I still don't know who is more at fault than who and ultimately I don't care. There is just one fact, DDG will leave for free.

I don't know how you can say that for certain. Especially when DDG has been made to look like an idiot by RM and their strategy to sign him. He should fire Mendes though. I think it is United's turn to seize the opportunity and tie him down to a long contract.

You're right there is no certainty, unless they kiss and make up is what I should have added. If he is still with his gf all year long, this might be difficult though. Let's collect some money from caf members and send towards him all the whores in Manchester.

Hopefully that will give the club some sort of award.

Already given. De gea between the posts for the season rather than Romero.

A lot can change in a year in football.

If the intention was to sell, then we should have set a strict deadline for the player and the buying club by which it has to be resolved or he fulfills his contractual obligation with us.

If the intention was never to sell out beloved twice of the player of the year, then that should have been made clear from day one. We should have taken a stand and handled it like Everton have handled the Stones situation.

De Gea never agitated for the move. From what I understand, his position is that he doesn't want to sign a long term contract with us as he would like to return home eventually. There is nothing to suggest that he was adamant on leaving this season.

I know a lot of fans like it and I really can understand why. I just find it weird. There was nothing to prove.

You're not wrong. But when you're from here your breathe it. The first time I went to Anfield I was in awe. Then I went to old Trafford you can't beat that feeling.

If they don't want to play then.. feck off. I know that's all I dreamed about

I don't understand how anyone with a basic understanding of commerce can blame United for this. And once those clowns released that statement, United had to respond. They've got an amazing sense of entitlement for a team that's only won two major trophies in the last five years.

The fact you think of commerce makes utd a business. It'll never be that to me

There is a deadline even if it's not set by us.

Our intention was never to not sell at any cost unlike Everton and stones. We didn't want him gone but if the player was so desperate to move, we were ready to sell but for a pair price. It was out in the public, not even some hush hush strategy of ours.

Firstly, our intention wasn't to sell but we had to agree to sell because the player wanted to move, but for the right price. The deadline bit is silly. There's a transfer deadline for a reason. If you get the right offer in that time you obviously accept rather than fix some fake deadline of your own which noone else cares about. Fixing a deadline like you claim isn't even a solution. Had Madrid come after it with the "right" offer, and we'd refused it because we had some internal deadline that would made things with De Gea much worse and more hostile. He's still our player.

Secondly, we can't do what Everton did with John Stones clearly, because John Stones has a good while left on his contract, and importantly, because his reasons aren't to do with going back to his country.

I still don't understand what people here wanted us to do? Fixing internal deadlines wasn't a solution. Accepting a lowball bid from Madrid was a solution but IMO a terrible one.

Yes, I support the club, no matter what. All you do is moan, moan, moan. It's getting tiresome.

Yup.

You're right, me not being from Manchester will not make me connect with the club the same intense way (it is a fact I have always recognized and accepted).
Maybe this is why I try to rationalize it when for others, it's more about feelings.

Fergie benched many an important player over the years, he even sold many when the didn't follow the rules, guess he Was daft at man management to then?

Fair enough mate. But when you've been chased with a stanley knife you'll change yo mind

It's not a business for me either. But selling and buying players is a commercial transaction. In the case of a desperate buyer vs a reluctant seller, the onus is always on the buyer and in this case Madrid's brinkmanship didn't pay off.

No that's not true. We support. We're passionate. So moan in. Ffs were Manchester United
People are moaning for the sake of it now, the club can do no right. It's fecking pathetic and I'd imagine the majority of those constantly criticising the team and club are nothing more than glory hunters.
Don't get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with having a moan every now and again but some posters go out of their way to do it. As I said, it's getting tiresome.

I can't remember the year. Lee Sharpe at goodison.

It didn't end well. I went with my two best friends ever. One a blue the other a Liverpool fan.

I got spit on. Kicked. And punched in the face. Now I think about it I was retarded. Plus I had my shirt on underneath my coat

People here moan for the sake of it. The club can do no right in their eyes.

Miss out on a young player because the club didn't want to spend high? We're cheap. Moan.

Spend high and get a young player? We overspend, we are desperate. Moan.

Sell someone on the cheap? We never sell well, pathetic how cheap we sell players. Moan.

Stick to a fair price and refuse lowball offers? We are letting money dictate the football side of things we should have taken the initiative to sell our best player(probably the most ridiculous sentence I've read here of late). Moan.

We support so we moan, doesn't quite logically hold up. There's more to supporting I imagine then moaning given the meaning of two words themselves.

That set deadline doesn't help us in order to get a replacement and integrate the new guy with the team, does it? That is why I think we should have found a solution earlier, as we always had the most to lose in this case.

Why would it make the situation more hostile if we already told the player that we wouldn't sell him beyond a point, as we have to look at our best interests too.

From what I read, the player didn't want to extend a contract and tie himself long term. If De Gea was adamant on leaving than I can understand, but he wasn't, and never agitated a move.

Yes, I support the club, no matter what. All you do is moan, moan, moan. It's getting tiresome.

We all support the club. This is a discussion forum. No one is moaning, we are discussing something. Use the ignore button if it doesn't suit your fancy. I have you on it most of the time.

*applauds*

Next time you are in Pune, I will buy you a round of drink for every 'moan' above :p

Edit: and at Manchester United cafe & bar. Quite costly it is, but worth it.
