Yeah, I know but we could have just paid off his contract or something. Though that's pretty much the same as having to pay his wages for a year so doesn't really matter.

The most important thing is that he doesn't actually get anywhere near our goal.

Well if LVG does his job properly and get's DDG back to his best and into the team i don't think we will have the problem.

Fergie benched many an important player over the years, he even sold many when the didn't follow the rules, guess he Was daft at man management to then?
I wasn't referring to benching them for a few games, but rather for the entirety of the season, which some were suggesting if he doesn't sign a new contract, but carry on.

"The Club is delighted that its fan-favourite double Player of the Year, David de Gea, remains a Manchester United player."

I thought this line was very classy from United - strong reminder to De Gea that he is very much adored and highly valued here - unlike Madrid, who made no concerted effort to sign him.

I love how you've airbrushed Moyesies tenure out of that timeline, when it was by far the worst time the club has had recently

Not surprising though, as you're a well known fanboy.
Actually the last year and half was intended to include Moyes reign too, obviously. Who would be daft enough to think things were better under Moyes. But yes please do carry on jumping to conclusions. I don't think I even posted that much here during the Moyes era, but apparently I'm a "fanboy". Logic.

Getting De Gea's head screwed on for us is massive, it could be the biggest "signing" of the Summer in a sense given how good he has been for us and we all expected him not to be here this season. I would have thought LVG and Giggs would have travelled over to him or at least made reassuring phone calls, that should happen as you can bet that slimy shower of francos have been in his ear since. The Euros is definitely giving us bargaining power, he has to play and play well to get selected. We signed him for £18m and yes we will lose that if he goes for free next Summer, but given just how competitive the PL continues to become our chances of CL qualification are significantly higher with him in the team and how much is that worth to us? I think it is mutually beneficial to both the club and the player that he knuckles down so I am confident that will happen. You never know, he may do the honourable thing along the way and sign an extension with an appropriate buyout clause so he can leave in the Summer anyway and we get properly compensated.

Oh please. 'Manchester United acts appropriately and efficiently in its transfer dealings.' Riiight...

Please tell me where Real Madrid have ever botched a transfer a la Pedro, Thiago or Vidal. (and I'm not even going to speak about the Fellaini deal)

We wanted to get DDG and you guys wanted to keep him but somehow we messed up this transfer.

Believe what you want to believe. :wenger:
No one is talking about any transfer except this one. the whole window you've had, you've been tapping up the poor fecker for maybe the whole of the last year if not more, you fecked it up.

Touched by everything that has happened DDG does not rule out renewal with united.

I think we should make DDG sign a 5 year contract extension with a 100 million buyout clause and then just sit him in the stands forever.

Joking aside, is it legal to say we wont play you unless you sign a contract. I mean obviously we dont have to say it in so many words but could we say that as DDG is not part of our long term plans we need to start planning for a future without him.
Well, sure we could do something like that, but it wouldn't be wise. The best we can do is make him feel at home and show him our appreciation, maybe when he realizes that we want him more than Real he'll sign a new contract. Who knows, maybe all he wants is being with his girlfriend, no matter what, then we have no chance.
Unless, of course, every United fan buys 10 copies of her albums and makes her more popular in the UK than in Spain, so she would move to him.

Fergie was never in this position, the players that didn't follow his strict guidlines or weren't committed to the club were shown the door. Much like LVG
There is Rooney I suppose.

(Google Spanish - English translation)

David de Gea, after deciding to leave Old Trafford, to forgo a higher salary by signing with Real Madrid, to lead without playing a month of staying in the stands in the Premiership, of not going convened prior to Champions, having to endure the taunts of Van Gaal malicious, suffering insults that has been his hobby the last four years, to remain silent, his signature on the contract with the white club, to feel with the shield chest Monday night, waiting for confirmation of the time of presentation at the Bernabeu, is still Manchester United goalkeeper.
The scenario that David would never imagine appeared in the mirror at 12 pm, as a curse or a hyphen born of the great mind of Wes Craven. The goalkeeper already had hours to appear on the stage of their new stadium and the moment that last closed eyes in a blink was back in the tunnel at Old Trafford, with the same shield, the same coach, the same love, the same rain.
His dream was broken because of a mail, a misunderstanding, a malicious or negligent, what he knows and who cares now. And the player is hurt quite touched, but his commitment to the Spanish team yesterday made him go to Las Rozas and put under the command of Vicente del Bosque. Finally some football.
Confused after the fiasco
After learning of the outcome of his saga, De Gea took refuge at his partner near the mountains of Madrid and only left there when their responsibilities and what is demanded to meet with his agent and to concentrate WITH RED by the afternoon. Visibly seriously and with signs of exhaustion, the goalkeeper became one of the worst shots of his career.
He did everything in his power to sign for Real Madrid, but the circumstances of the negotiation between two lands are left, one that will not be home and one that does not feel like yours. It will be the second time I have to go back to Manchester against their will. Once finished the season empty home, which I had to return since the start of training the English club came before the deal, something that David did not expect. And now the film is repeated.
His return, as their not signing for Madrid, will be a fool. Manchester faces after the break of selections, Liverpool at Old Trafford on Saturday 12th at 18.30. A classic Premier precisely at the stadium whose stands have tasted De Gea in recent weeks. Van Gaal will be the decision on the net, including a goalkeeper who a few days ago had his head in white and another who failed in the last day.
The United counting on him
Despite what happened throughout the summer, both Van Gaal as Manchester United De Gea understand that is the best goalkeeper currently have on staff. So the Dutch expected him back in training in order to finally use him this season, both in the Premiership and the Champions League. The Red Devils project is ambitious and a goalkeeper as the Spanish won many integers.
And they go further. Manchester continues its renewal offer on the table from De Gea. Not retiring, despite what happened this summer and does not change. It is 2.3 million euros higher than the season Real Madrid, a figure rejected the goalie and making it clear that it is not moving to La Castellana for economic reasons. The English club in January tighten because De Gea will be free to negotiate their future with another club to be within the last six months of his contract. Still confused by events, the goal is thinking.
Until it opens next transfer window, intent on De Gea it is to leave behind what is beyond repair and focus on what you do best, stop. Gloves and football await you.

Not showing for me, what did it say?
DE DONUT's girlfriend is "very disappointed" by his botched move to Real Madrid.

It has a picture of Edurne caressing DDG's cheeks. Yeah surely is disappointed if it has come down to caressing only cheeks :p

This could well turn out to be the best business of the window for us. I wasn't at all convinced that Navas was the right man for the job and we've managed to keep Dave!

If the club can get his head right and get him back in the team then what a boost this could be. And a much needed one given the lack of confidence with Romero.

I just wonder whether the club can get his head right? He was pretty determined to leave so I guess his head is going to be a bit of a mess right now? And that won't be helped with him being away on international duty with some of the Real lads.

I do think though we'd be foolish to think he is ours for the season though. There's still the January transfer window and I'd imagine as long as the same deal can be agreed the transfer will go through.

What I would say though is how well Dave has handled the situation in public. He hasn't tweeted anything stupid or spoken to the media. He was clearly desperate to go but in the public eye he's handled himself very well. Much better than a certain Berahino.

I actually feel for De Gea right now. It must actually be a pretty emotional time for him right now. Madrid have probably given him assurances that he would be their player (hence the compensation claims). We probably gave him assurances that he would be allowed to leave at the right price. Essentially, Madrid have screwed him over.

It looks like convincing DDG's girlfriend is much important than convincing DDG.Its better for both parties to sign contract extension and have some kind of agreement so he can move to Madrid next season as we get our players worth.

Doesn't Madrid have a transfer ban in January?

If Fergie was here, he'd have perhaps told Dave to marry her, or tell her to stfu

feck the Mirror, btw.

United have become a laughing stock
And they were giggling around the footballing world - except for those inside the Bernabeu - wondering how David De Gea’s move to Real Madrid, which had seemed a certainty for the best part of a year, could be scuppered by last-minute paperwork bungling.

So they're laughing at us for keeping one of the best goalkeepers in the world then? How does that work?

Good question... Not that I knew of but yeah maybe? Though what for? And why were they not therefore banned this summer? I know Barca can't play new signings until Jan but I didn't think Real were in hot water too.

The papers can feck off. Some papers started their articles like this "Man Utd's attempt to sell De Gea to Real botched up.. "
People keep forgetting that it was as much a Real's attempts to buy De Gea got screwed.

AS reports that Real had signed a contract with De Gea with a 10M euro to be given to him if Real dont buy him this summer.

My hatred for Real is nearing Liverpool levels right now. Utterly despicable club that I'd gladly see wiped from the face of the planet.

Actually, I'd miss Liverpool. They provide so much entertainment.

Real Madrid are totally unnecessary, however. Football would be better off without them.

Good of him to look past the bit where we did our part to get rid of him.
There's been a contract offer on the table for 12 months if he wants it, and we never wanted to sell we were respecting his wishes. We haven't done anything wrong by him.

What I'm hoping for is DDG to get back starting for United asap and pulling off some amazing saves for us. If he does that, and Navas has some dodgy times for a Madrid team that don't want him, then the narrative will have to change...
