Yeah so ? Are people acting as if the problem is in this word only ? Literally the next sentence is "the team is poor". He's absolving himself from the blame saying he did well while the team was poor. Hearing "sports" as "poor" doesn't change anything at all from the context of the sentence when the next sentence is him saying the team is poor indeed.
And De Gea didn't reply on this by saying they heard him wrong. He just literally said "I didn't say that".
He looks like a clown now.
