Apparently they signed him on a five and a half year deal last year, so it's only a one year extension. As @SilentWitness says, they were probably rewarding him for his performances this season.

I remembered when Pochettino came to that game(United vs Mk Dons) to scout Welbeck from United. I wonder whether Spurs interest in Alli came from Pochettino being present at the game. If it did, that adds more credibility to Pochettino managerial acumen.
They're nothing alike. Barkley is an attacking midfielder where Ali is an all-action box to box midfielder.

It happened against France, but with Dier behind them instead. Looked promising, in my opinion. We (England) could do with a holding player in the mould of Scholes/Pirlo/Alonso etc, though. At the moment, we only have Carrick. Think that's why Hodgson was trying to convert Wilshere into a holding mid.

Off topic, but if Welbz had more sense, he would have went to Spurs instead of Arsenal, especially as Pochettino has enact of working with young English talents. Wouldn't have played up top so much, due to Kane's prominence, but I think Pochettino would have made him into a very successful wide forward - similar to how he used Jay Rodriguez at Southampton.
Which is true, but the point is that they're entirely different kind of players. Ali looks like someone who would be pretty well suited to playing box to box in midfield two. He offers plenty in terms of tackling/off the ball from what I've seen.
The comment I replied to is that "We didnt buy him even though we played against him". Im sure these clubs knew about Delle Alli in the same way but big teams are very wary about buying from League one and putting in the first team. I remember Bayern and Liverpool among clubs who sent scouts during our MK Dons game. Its just that they didnt think its worth putting him in the first team just like we probably did. Similarly none of those teams felt he is good enough to warrant a 36m move. He seems very good and probably will go on for big things the way he is going. So does Barkley. He's a bit more of a box-to-box in the Toure mould with a bit of Scholes. That sounds bizarre but it's the two lazy and easy comparisons i can make when describing his possession play and his driving runs.
If he becomes as good as Pogba, England and Spurs will have an amazing midfielder on their books.It really wouldnt be so unknown if he gets to Pogba's current level (not talking about his hype level).

I know he scores good goals and that he has very good attacking movement but how would you describe in other aspects of the game ? I mean his passing, tackling, anticipation. Are the goals what he is all about or do they make him even more impressive ?

goal of the season... Alli is simply English Pogba if not better, watch him in few years, he's world class talent and top potential..
A £31 million player should be one of our most important players. Yet LVG doesn't even trust him any more.
Robbie Fowler scored one like that once. His was better actually because he flicked to ball up with the outside of his boot.
Yeah he is shite but he didn't cost £31m.
He's very strong in the tackle, but for me.. he's bit like Pogba in that he isn't really a proper CM.. he doesn't really dictate games and floats around, bit like a technically gifted super powered Frank Lampard. Still a great player to have in your side but he needs to develop the playmaking side of his game. For me he is more intelligent than someone like Barkley but has less drive/ability to link up play than Barkley.. as he is just a more languid character in general. It makes him composed as feck though in front of goal which is the upside.
If he can improve his passing/movement in the midfield zone, work on wanting to control games as well as win them.. he will be world class. Either way, he is destined to be a top player who will feature in teams competing for titles.
I'd say that he's not just about goals and attacking movement. He's also an aggressive tackler, very mobile and energetic (a true box-to-box CM), a decent passer of the ball and shows real commitment and passion. And for a 19 year-old whose jumped straight from League 1 to playing for Spurs, he has so much composure that you'd think this was his 3rd or 4th season in the Prem.
Barring injury, I think it's a certainty he'll be in the England Euros squad ... and very possibly as a starter.
