He's England's best midifeld, period. But I'd argue Dier is our most important player, without him we literally have no other DM's to cover.
Is it safe to start calling him one of the best young talents in the world now? not being funny, but some of the shit he did tonight put experienced players we call world class to shame.

He's a great young player but I couldn't believe how much praise he received on commentary tonight. That was far from his best performance this season and I honestly thought he was a level below Kane and Welbeck for most of the game.

The only bigger team that was in for him is Liverpool and their owners didn't let Rodgers pay him the wage he was after.
@clarkydaz I disagree he was the biggest threat. Honestly, I thought Kane was the biggest threat for most of the game. His passing and link-up around the box, particularly with Welbeck, was dangerous. Also, can't believe Henderson didn't take advantage of the sitter that Welbeck provided him when he chased the ball and won it on the byline.
Alli's only moment of individual brilliance was the turn in the middle of park to create space and the long-range shot which forced a very good (but predictable) save from Neuer. Aside from that, I think he was lacking in cutting edge tonight.
Reminds me a lot of Gascoigne.

Excellent game by him, MOTM with Dier for me. Hugely impressed with this lad, and I think he'll be the sensation of the Euros.
If he had taken his chance all three Tottenham players would have been on the score sheet.
The question was asked why did Spurs manage to sign him above the likes of Man. Utd, Man. City, Chelski etc? Alli had long since given answer: because of Pochettino (and by implication his policy of giving young players a good chance and picking players based on performance and not seniority).
If you choose to ignore his answer that's up to you. But from where I'm standing it looks like Alli made the wise choice.

I don't choose to ignore the answer because it's actually quite correct, Pochettino does have a policy of giving young players a good chance and picking players based on performances, he's an excellent manager.
But you don't shit on your employers do you? He was hardly gonna say I wanted to go to United/City/Chelsea/etc but they didn't want me so I came here instead, he was never gonna give anything other than a PC answer because if he did say something else then he'd be punished for it. Footballers are stupid but they're not that stupid. He could've had the answer written down for him to say by someone at Spurs or his agent for all we know. There are very few footballers that give honest answers in interviews, watched by thousands if not millions of people, they all say the exact same thing to every question to maintain their place in the squad and not get shown the door, that's why post match interviews are so painfully dull for example.

Saw some of the highlights, he has looked very very good this season and he was very good tonight. I fear for him being next in line to be nailed on the cross by the fans if England fail at the Euro's.

I think it's you who need to get a grip. Spurs aren't just any old club and Pochettino isn't just any old manager. Clearly there were several clubs who were very interested, but Alli chose Spurs for a reason.
If you have a better reason than the one than Alli himself gave, then let's hear it.
Could you have seen Van Gaal signing him? The guy doesn't really have a clue about English potential that isn't shoved right under his nose.
He was excellent tonight, he has a gracefulness on the ball but doesn't lack bite in his defensive work and pressing. Personally I don't agree with the calls for him to play deeper, at least not until he gets much older. He's an ideal AM in a 3 man midfield and should be kept in that more advanced attacking role for now.
No but then it's a failing by everyone bar obviously Spurs who didn't sign him so credit to them (Tottenham)

Really? Kane, through no particular fault of his own, didn't get involved much until around the time he scored. Alli looked different class throughout, and was involved in pretty much every attacking move. Welbeck was good, granted. He's always good for England. In a real game, Can would've been sent off within the opening half hour for the three or four yellow-card professional fouls he had to make to stop Welbeck going past him.
That, more even than additions like Kane, Vardy and Alli, will be the difference if England do well. No more awkwardly shoving a past-it Gerrard in as a semi-defensive midfielder, or trying to get Milner and Henderson to share the job between them. Dier may not be Busquets, but by virtue of being a competent actual DM, he's solid gold for Hodgson. Wrap him in tissue paper!
Not really, no. The easy answer to that is they have all plucked and utilized talent from different pools in their own way. His question wasn't "why didn't any of the other top clubs sign him" it was why didn't we. Van Gaal has shown he doesn't really do "potential" other than the ones that were shoved at us, there is also plenty of room for over-aged players to be regitered.. (Other than 16's level signings, but I can't comment on how much input he has there).

This is more than a little bizarre. You've not explained why every other manager who didn't sign Alli gets a free pass but Van Gaal gets criticised for it. Meanwhile, you've told us he 'doesn't really do potential', despite his reputation as one of the greatest bringers-through of future stars in the game. And, y'know, the fact that he blew a massive transfer fee on 19-year-old Anthony Martial, to much mockery, in what now looks like one of our best signings for years. Or that he promoted Rashford, currently the league's tyro of the moment.
I'd happily swap Mata for him.

Were Martial, Memphis, and Poole all shoved at van Gaal? I didn't realize he was forced to promote players to train with the first team all season like TFM, Weir, etc. Not to mention his history at other clubs, but he's just been having players shoved on him his whole career hasn't he?

I have not checked their passport, but seeing them turn out for countries other than England in the internationals over the weekend leads me to believe that they aren't English players. Poole isn't even close to playing for the first team and I am not going into the argument that he damaged the season by trimming the squad so far as to rely on green youngsters. This is going massively off topic so I will bow out, this lad is a fine player and my original answer was the point that I made. Van Gaal hasn't looked to buy any potential English talent in the last two seasons that wasn't shoved under his nose.
He could have done great as a converted right wing back in LVGs system
Spurs have collected a few extremely talented young players in Kane, Eriksen, Dier and especially Alli. I'm pretty sure Levy would give himself a permament erection if he thought about how much money those four would fetch if he sold them.

I need to watch Spurs/Alli a bit more. I seem to be in the minority of 1 who thinks he's good, but a wee little overrated because he pops up in the box and scores a good number of goals. Some spectacular ones to boot.
To me, he's very lampard'esque. A bit more agile but not at lampard's finishing ability (yet). He's still young of course. But like I said, I could be very wrong as I don't watch him that often. Maybe he is one of the Prem's best midfielders as he's being hailed.
To those who do watch him. What's his best position? I've seen him used in a variety of positions but #10 seems to be where he's most often? How would you describe his playing style? He's more of a direct goal threat than a sublime passer/dribbler to control the tempo isn't he? He's got a good work rate as well, from what I gather.
