League Cup Semi Final - Away leg
Pride Park Stadium
Wed 07th January
KO : 19h45 GMT

I don't I've ever looked forwards to a Carling Cup match quite so much. Weird.

Will probably play a very much weakened team. Hard to think we will start too many players, if any, who will start against Chelsea.

PIG

Rafael Evans O'Shea Eckersley/Fabio

Nani Fletcher Gibson Park

Welbeck Tevez

Honestly i dont care about this game.

Put some young players and reserves (Manucho, Gibson, Possebon, Rafael, Kuz, Oshea, Wellbeck, etc) and rest our first team for Sunday.

Fergie will play a weakened team, but I still think some of our first teamers will feature.

Kuszczak
Rafael - Vidic - Evans - O'Shea
Gibson - Fletcher - Scholes - Nani
Welbeck - Tevez

We probably won't play Van der Sar, Neville, Ronaldo, Carrick, Rooney, Berbatov and Giggs; Evra is still out and Rio is injured. That team above should do the job though, I doubt Derby can beat us over two legs.

Same as yours but I think we'll go with Rafael Neville Evans O'Shea in defence.

Hope we see Fabio at LB and O'Shea at CB though.

It'll be interesting to see Fabio and Manucho possibly getting a run out.

To be fair we could lose 3-0 and would still more than likely progress

Not going to happen like, but we'll win

any news on fabio, would like to see him play some part.

Team should be...

GK: Foster

RB: Rafael
CB: Vidic
CB: Evans
LB: O'Shea

RM: Ronaldo
CM: Fletcher
CM: Anderson
LM: Nani

CF: Rooney
CF: Tevez

Subs: PIG, Neville, Possebon, Gibson, Giggs, Park, Wellbeck

It's a semi final so we shouldn't play a team that doesn't reflect that. I reckon a narrow win and then finish them off at OT

It's a semifinal, so let's get to the final. Always nice to win a trophy, even if it's the Carling Cup. But yes, let's rest some players for the Chelsea match..

Foster

Rafael - O'Shea - Evans - Fabio

Gibson - Possebon - Anderson - Nani

Welbeck - Tevez

Subs: Amos, Chester, Eckersley, Cleverley, Fletcher, Manucho and Rooney.

Foster
Rafael Evans O'Shea Fabio
Gibson Possebon Anderson Nani
Welbeck Manucho

I would play a weakened team in this game and a more serious team in the second leg. A defeat here is recoverable, a defeat against Chelsea may not be.

Hope Goggs gets another chance, though he didn't impress today.

Tevez is apparently still in Argentina on compassionate leave so i doubt we'll see him feature on Wednesday

Foster

Rafael
Vidic
Evans
OShea
Park
Scholes
Fletcher
Nani
Wellbeck
Rooney

IF we get a few goals lead then bring the likes of Rooney off

Oh, and please keep Gibson off the wing. He looks as if he's never crossed a ball in his life.

PIG

Rafael
Vidic
Rio
O'Shea

Ronaldo
Fletcher
Scholes
Park

Rooney
Welbeck

Subs: VDS, Neville, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Berbatov, Nani.

How's Welbeck after the knock he took?

Our defence is the most tricky to select for Fergie I reckon.

You need experience in there, especially for a CC semi, and an away game at that. Do we risk Vidic, given his form and with Chelsea coming up? Can Gaz play 2 games in a short period?

---------------- Kuszczak ------------------
Rafael ----- Vidic ------- Evans ----- O'Shea
------ Fletcher - Possebon - Anderson ------
Nani ------------- Tévez ----------- Welbeck

Subs: Foster; Neville; Gibson, Carrick, Giggs; Manucho, Rooney.

The defence really is a tough one, in all areas. Should Van der Sar keep playing until he has a howler? Can Neville play two games in four days? Should Vidic be rested? It sucks that we lack defenders at the moment.

Would Sir Alex trust Rafael against Chelsea? Or will he go with Neville against Chelsea at Old Trafford? If so, then Neville would probably be best off not playing any part in this game. However, I'm assuming Park Ji-Sung will start against Chelsea. We know Sir Alex likes to play Rafael behind Park, so if that's his thinking then perhaps Neville will play some of this game.

But then there's a decision to make whether Vidic should be rested and Neville play centreback, or just leave out Rafael and play Neville at right back.. I wish Brown was fit :(

Evans has to play because there's no one else, despite showing quite a few moments of inexperience against Southampton. O'Shea will probably have to keep playing, but if Fábio is ready this could be his chance. Luckily Evra is back at the weekend, so we can swap left backs around in other competitions a bit more freely.

A three-man midfield would be best suited for this away game, though I usually hate us playing it. It sorts out our defence a bit more since it's likely to go through some changes. Scholes should probably just be rested if he's well and Carrick should be on the bench since he'll play against Chelsea as well.

Nani can play again since Park and Ronaldo will (probably) start against Chelsea. Berbatov might just be left out completely for the Chelsea game, and Rooney on the bench again. If Tévez isn't back, then maybe it'd just be best to play Manucho as the loan centre forward and have both Rooney and Berbatov on the bench as back-up. Welbeck should just start since he's unlikely to feature at any point against Chelsea.

But yeh, this is a two leg game, so lots of changes and it doesn't really matter if we don't win it here. I still expect us to go through, and hopefully win this trophy.

Rotating a big squad is fun. 3-0 to us.

feck it I'd start

Rafael Evans O'Shea Fabio

*If Fabio is fit

If it all goes wrong we'll turn it around at OT. Surely we can't risk Vidic

It's also a first leg. We don't need to risk the likes of Ronaldo and Rooney in this game a few days before a critical clash with the Russians. Can you imagine if one or both got a knock and missed Sunday's clash ? I'd fairly much agree with the rest of your line-up tho, although I'd like to reward Welbeck for his efforts with another start.....

Anyone know if Tosic is available to feature in this tie ?

GK: Foster

RB: Rafael
CB: Vidic
CB: Evans
LB: O'Shea

RM: Nani
CM: Gibson (or Possebon)
CM: Anderson
LM: Giggs

CF: Welbeck
CF: Tevez

No way Vidic will play.

I think we'll play this :

PIG

Rafael
Gaz/O'Shea
Evans
Fabio/O'Shea

Gibson
Giggs
Possebon
Nani

Welbeck
Tevez

------------------Kuzczak------------------

--Rafael-----Vidic------Evans-------Sheasy--

--Park-------Fletcher--Scholes-----Nani---

-------------Wellbeck---Rooney-------------

Subs: Heaton, Giggsy, Carrick, Berbatov, Neville, Manucho Anderson.

Rationale:
GK: VDS is too old to play 3 games a week
Defense: Rafael surely wont play against Chelsea (inexperience and small size) & so he's in this match.
Rest of back 3 in by default.
Midfield: Scholesey to pull the strings and run the show while Fletcher is to do the donkey's work for Scholesy while occassionally bursting forward from deep to get a few shots in.
-Park to put in another shift and get into good positions.
-Nani to start since he seems to have played his way back into Fergie's squad.

Attack: Wellbeck to start to continue his develoment. REckon he would nick another goal here.
Rooney to start ahead of Berbs since he barely got more than 20 minutes yesterday.

Prediction: 1-2 victory with goals from Wellback and Park Ji Sung.
