Eden Hazard | "I am signing for Chelsea"

I would never consider signing for either of the Milan clubs as a step down. He just wanted out of Madrid and was willing to go anywhere. Tevez went from United for more money and is trying to leave to join a bigger club than the medium sized one he's at at the moment. Ok city aren't a stepping stone, they are a lay by until a better offer that the player wants comes along.

Which City will reject and will only allow them to leave, after a long period of time and on their terms.

For example Madrid have been linked with Aguero since about the time he signed for City. He's not going to be allowed to go there. He'll be forced to stay, might go out on loan to a lesser club or something but in a years time he'll still be contracted to City because they have no intention of doing a big club a favour by selling their best players to them.

City isnt the best destination, but its a destination none the less because they wont allow you to move on to better things. At least not without going on a merry go round of loan moves and lesser clubs

Aguero will have his first season then go on about moving to Madrid all next season. The second season seems to be the time when they get their itchy feet.

City are going to buy the league - this is a certainty - and maybe eventually the CL. As such, there is the attraction of an extremely high likeliness of trophies at Shitty AND a heck of a payday.

As long as we can offer Hazard/Lille something within the realms of what City offer, we should get our man. That is, something remotely competitive to what they offer.

Big 'if' of course.

so he probably went to see Debuchy. SAF loves to troll Meulensteen. No wonder why the Dutch man had attempted to cripple him at one point in time. ;)

Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has revealed that Sir Alex Ferguson is interested in Lille winger Eden Hazard.

Many of Europe's elite are rumoured to be interested in the Belgian but the Red Devils boss now seems to be stepping up his pursuit.

Ferguson's recent presence at a Lille match sparked debate about who he was there to observe and his assistant has now admitted that Hazard was the point of the trip.
"The manager wanted to see [Eden] Hazard by himself. That's a sign he thinks it's an interesting player. We talked a lot about him," he told Voetbal International.

"For a club it's important that you keep refreshing your squad.

"Hazard is a special talent, but it always takes a while. As example: We've followed David de Gea for a long time before we got him.

"Ferguson wants to know the character of the player. Because of that he's going to look by himself for players. Hazard is 'the man' at Lille. Ferguson wanted to see if that had an influence on him."

Kevin Strootman is another young prospect rumoured to be on the club's radar but Meulensteen says they are unsure about the player's ability to fit into the Premier League.

"We've never discussed the name Strootman. We follow every young player with potential. That's the same for [Ajax midfielder] Christian Eriksen," he explained.

"I don't have a good sharp image of Strootman. In England some people name him the new Roy Keane.

"I think that's nonsense. Strootman has got the physique for the English league, but if he will fit in here, I cannot answer that."

We can dream...

Usually, its only a distraction. Didnt he talk about another player like that that we never ended up signing?

Rene also said the Stekelenburg was our #1 choice to man the gloves after VdS, didn't he?

I'll take it with a pinch of salt, if anything.

He isn't saying anything factually incorrect, we are following him but we probably follow 100 players at a time but are only likely to sign a select few.

All I'm taking from this is that if Ferguson watches a player himself its because he finds him interesting and, rather than looking at the player from the ground up he's already got a picture of what the player is like but wants to see if he's infuencial for his team rather than popping up once or twice in a match and doing something classy

Apart from looking like a right shifty fecker, Meulensteen is a complete transfer muppet.

The conspiratorial, reverse psychology that takes place in some of these threads is hilarious. I think Fergie went to see Hazard as Rene said.

Fergie must've been watching him to assess his weaknesses for when he plays against us for City next season :smirk:

The similarities between him and Ronaldo circa 04/05 are quite astounding. Bags of tricks, limited end product, makes defenders brick it when he runs at them etc.

I can see Chelsea and City going into a ridiculous bidding war for him.

Looks as exciting and willing to beat players as Ronaldo was in his younger days.

its a deflection tactic....to get chelsea and city to focus on him...while we bag someone much better in the meantime.....!!

Surely, it must be. Because people never say what they mean.

All you get from Rene is that Hazard is one many players we're following and SAF wanted to see a little bit more. This is all.

How many players does Fergie travel to a foreign country to see personally? It must mean we have a serious interest.

He went to see De Gea as well. And we bought him.

Yeah, but you have to consider the circumstances too... We were probably the only top side last season whose No.1 GK had retired and needed an immediate replacement, So De Gea + Neuer etc... were brought up and in the end we gambled with De Gea and he looks really promising...

BUT, Hazard is kinda like a player that probably all top sides around every top league will probably try to go for, not to mention we have quality wingers in Nani/Valencia/Park/Young/Giggsy and we also use Rooney + Welbeck on the wings at time, quite different from De Gea's case...

If we go for Hazard, I can only assume that the following requirements have to be met
-We get a reasonable price for him ( Not Citeh taxed )
-we will be offloading a winger ( Park maybe )

Just my op.

Really can't see this happening I'm afraid.

Europe's elite (plus City and Chelsea) will be in for this lad and we simply cannot financially compete with them.

Unless he wants to play for us, I can't see us getting him. City would seem like a logical choice given their funds and their lack of width.

That will never happen.. Have to remember he will be present in the Euro's too.

Hazard is in a market where Naymar, Gotze, Eriksen, Lucus are all on the top of everyones list.. Nothing different really, they aren't all going to go to one club.

If money is his priority he'll go to City.

But if he's an intelligent lad he might look at Tevez, Nasri, Dzeko, Adebayor, Balotelli... and think that City isn't an ideal place for a young player to develop.

Didn't rene say something similar about us being interested in steklenberg last year…but was totally off the mark

I think that was more of a twisted quotation, rather than a straight up "yes he is our number 1 target"

He pretty much said we are looking at many candidates, and stekelenburg is a good player.. or something along those lines
