Eden Hazard | "I am signing for Chelsea"

Gaitan won't really be a huge saga. He either comes here or doesn't. He is willing to leave and we don't really face competition for him.

Didn't we confirm we were after De Gea? As Bosnian Red says, this has something of the same feel to it.

I think there are major and minor transfer targets for Fergie. Our recent major targets have been Berbatov and De Gea. For those players we pull out all the stops and Fergie is likely to get personally involved. Hazard may be such a target.

Or I may be indulging in a bit of wishful thinking :D

My (unchecked) memory of the De Gea deal is that Fergie first named him on the night of Nev's testimonial (and some speculated he did that to deflect from the Giggs injunction farce that was all the rage ahead of the Barca game). There had been strong rumours concerning De Gea a while before that (January maybe, when we signed Lindegaard?) but the deal was obviously done by the time Fergie spoke of him.

So perhaps a deal has been done for Hazard? I just find that unlikely, given the parties said to be interested in him (differing from the De Gea situation as there weren't any other teams after a goalie when that happened). But then again, I'm just very pessimistic :smirk:

Didn't Ferguson say he would never name a player from another team he is interested in because it is disrespectful to the other club?

I would love to see Hazard at United.

I would love to see us play a 4231 with the front 4 being -
Rooney
Young - Hazard - Nani

Young, Hazard, and Nani can all very comfortably play in any of the 3 positions and seeing them constantly switch around could potentially be devastating.

Yeah, I doubt we'll really be after Hazard if were mentioning him in the press. There's already a whole host of teams interested so why would we stoke the flames and create a bidding war for ourselves. I think were trying to keep the spotlight off our true target, whoever that might be.

i m more convinced than ever that we re not signing him. The real target/s must be someone else.

I think it depends on what Lille is asking for him and what his wage demands are.

If they are asking for something like 40 mio. I don't see us signing him.

If he is around 20-25 mio. I can see a better chance of a transfer happening but then again he would be such an obvious target and the last couple of years have thought us at least one thing. SAF isn't going for the obvious target anymore since we bought Rooney and CR.

He was being interviewed by RMC(A French Radio Station). I'm assuming they ask the question whether he was there to scout Hazard?

So I think SAF answered it.

This one we'll know about very quickly I reckon.

I don't know much about him but if he's really as good as people make him out then would love to see him here myself

He's coming to the prem, wants cl and everyone wants him. Us or city really.

We are not signing gaitan. How many people have to tell you how many times!?

Arsenal will be in for him.and we know that he would go there as he's said it enough times. Spurs too, I bet they'd be willing to pay quite a bit of money too, especially of the let Modric go.

What sort of player is thIs guy then? Quite hard to tell from YouTube, as he looks like Messi and Ronaldo rolled into one, obviously.

He seems to be this year's Sanchez.

Quick, skilful, intelligent wide attacker who loves to get on the ball and commit players but can always pick out a pass. Something like a combination between David Silva and Adam Johnson, but closer to Johnson than Silva in that he's not much of a playmaker rather just a very creative passer. And with more flair and ability to do the extraordinary than either, as I'm sure you can see from youtube. Loves drifting right across the pitch and is really smart in finding space in between defence and midfield. Not necessarily lazy but he's pretty useless in defence, he'd improve here because he'll be asked to track back more than he is at Lille and he does try, but yeah he'd offer a lot less defensive cover than any of our current attacking players. Only real worry I can see is his hit-and-miss form at international level but when you can say the same for half the team chances are it's not Hazard's fault. And better than Sanchez.

This worries me - dont want him anymore! :(

A flat out denial of interest or a judicious prevarication would've given me much more hope, tbqfh.

If it sounds better swap Johnson for Nani, obviously I was just talking about playing styles and for me he's very much a creative attacker not an auxiliary midfielder. It's just my opinion, and when I've seen him this year he has been participating more in the build-up and often in more central positions than he was last year and he's obviously developing that side of his game. In fact if you look at the stats that's very clear - averaged 30 passes a game in 09/10, 40 passes a game in 10/11 and now 50 in 11/12. Although at the same time Lille have increased their possession in each season as well, so part of it's down to that. Regardless of all that there's no question he'd add quality to our passing game and build-up play, I just don't think he'd help control the game along with this.

This does not sound like Fergie at all.

Yeah, this sounds very strange to me. Although maybe Fergie was a bit more relaxed dealing with a French station than he normally is.

i think we'll sign him before the euros, (yes i know belgium are not there) as i reckon most teams will wait till after the euros to sign players but we're gonna sneak in nice and early with this one.

Agreed. If I'm not mistaken we signed Nani, Ando, and Hargreaves before the end of May 2007. Given that we're likely to buy this year, I would imagine Fergie may try to wrap up all deals before the Euros.

TBH I'm not convinced by Hazard. Not sure he'll be a big hit in the Premiership.

Convinced we're trading Hazard against Gaitan and sending the message to Benfica that we can go for someone else. This makes sense of course.

Hazard is hardly a secret.

He may be the best young player who's become available for years, and closely fits our transfer profile. We went after Rooney and Ronaldo, so why not Hazard? I doubt SAF shares the view of some Cafe posters that we are debarred from pursuing top young talent.

In recent years we've been linked with Benzema and latterly Sanchez. For whatever reason, we didn't sign either, but we were certainly interested. If Fergie thinks he's the right player, we'll be in for him.

Would be happy if we signed him but these stories obviously mean Fergie has no intention of doing so...

That's one way of looking at it. Another is that we're deliberately expressing interest publicly to create a narrative that "Man Utd want you" to Hazard. Ordinarily, this might be done behind the scenes, unless there's significant interest from other big clubs and Fergie just wants to piss on his territory to keep other suitors away.

Fergie in his comfy armchair sipping a scotch.

Suddenly an irresistible impulse - 'I've got to go to southern France to see a football match'

Leaves wife and family and decamps. Watches random game. Afterwards is questioned by the media. To cover mental lapse makes up story about interest in some of the players. Media frenzy over nothing more than an old man's senile waywardness.

My opinion is if we sign him then he is a great young talent and I'll be excited to have him here. If he goes somewhere else then he is an overrated cnut that we don't really need anyway.

The only thing for sure about Fergie is nothing's for sure, especially when it comes to transfers in our out of Old Trafford.

Sounds about right. Also if he signs of City, then obviously he's a mercenary cnut.

The thing is, I'm sure SAF understand the urge from the fans for a new No.7, it has always had a mysterious effect on us and with Owen probably leaving I guess its time to invest and hopefully SAF gets it right...

Out of all the potential youth players out there, I'm pretty sure Hazard is one of the best, Lucas would be very risky but from the youtube clips I love his style.. ( To be fair Its kinda hard to watch French + Brazilian football )

I don't agree with this being a smokescreen thing though, it's unlikely that Fergie would travel personally to watch Lille's match just to create a smokescreen. Despite whatever people think, we're capable of signing young, exciting talent.
