Eden Hazard | "I am signing for Chelsea"

Or he could be like the majority of players and join City, who can offer a lot more money and be challenging for the exact same silverware as us.

Yes he may earn a lot more at City, but it's not like he'll be getting pittance with us.

He'll be earning great wages, he'll stand a better chance of playing more, we're the biggest club in the country (and arguably the world!), he could wear the number 7 shirt, he could follow in the footsteps of legends and he'll have the best manager around coaching him.

If he only cares about money, then of course it's a no-brainer as he'll likely go to City.

But if he takes the other factors into consideration, surely it has to be us.

The same could have been said of Nasri. To be honest I don't really think Hazard will solve our problems but he seems a great player who will add a lot to our squad so I have no objections in signing him

The Sanchez thread was based on a lot less than this one was. I think we basically spoke to his agent or club and it was leaked from there and Barca quickly upped their interest and that was that. We've apparently agreed a contract with the player and have a good idea of what Lille are expecting and are happy with that too. We're just waiting and hoping to get the nod from Hazard and then it is a done deal.

Not really. Papers said we were interested, his agent said that too.

It's the same this time. I'm a bit sceptical about the "agreed terms with three clubs" part, it'll be more like three clubs presented an offer. We may be one of those, it may be a trick of the agent.

All 3 clubs can offer him the chance to challenge for and win trophies. City & Chelsea can offer more money, we can offer him stability and a great history that only Madrid can rival.

Chelsea don't have a manager, the older players run the club, young players have hardly developed into world class talents at Chelsea and Roman's mental. On the other hand, they've just won the double and chances are the Russian will go crazy again in the transfer market so they'll be a force again next season.

City have issues with players fighting amongst themselves, a manager who seems confused as to what 'never play again' actually means and players already at the club who play in the same position as Hazard. However, with the Arab money they will continue to improve, they already have an excellent team with players at the peak of their careers and will win more trophies.

We can't offer the salary (although maybe we can agree some image rights package) but we have a manager with a rich history of developing players, we don't have problems with the owners interfering on footballing matters and you don't see our players fighting amongst themselves. Plus, he's likely to be a starter for us in most games.

If his priority is to develop as a footballer then I think we have a very good chance of signing him.

I think it's Lille that's agreed sales terms with three clubs. Not the player agreeing terms.

I interpet it as Lille have agreed a few with all clubs whilst all clubs have presented their best offers to Hazard. Whether all the offers are acceptable is another matter.

Might sound a daft thing to say, but I still have some doubts that we are one of the clubs. I've never heard anyone mention our name, only that he has had offers from Manchester.

Right, so his agent saying we are "interested" is the same as Hazard confirming that we have negotiated a contract with him with the permission of his club and he is happy with the terms and his clubs chairman saying he is happy for Hazard to choose which club he goes to.

Yeah sounds "about the same".

1 He'll be earning great wages,
2 he'll stand a better chance of playing more,
3 we're the biggest club in the country (and arguably the world!),
4 he could wear the number 7 shirt,
5 he could follow in the footsteps of legends
6 he'll have the best manager around coaching him.

Devils advocate (kind of), but:

1 main issue. Better elsewhere.
2 maybe. But definitely? We have good attacking players too.
3 yes but do players, esp foreign players, care about this? I think they care about money and trophies. City have as much chance and arguably may look better placed from a players perspective to deliver trophies.
4 I am sure he wouldn't give a shit about this. How many thousand pounds a week do you think that is worth? Or should be worth?
5 as 3. Not sure a young Belgian player gives too much thought to Best and Charlton. Might do, but unlikely.
6 would be huge. But for how much longer?

It's all about money and trophies. Unless a player grew up supporting us, we'll struggle to compete with city from here on out, I reckon.

I think it's Lille that's agreed sales terms with three clubs. Not the player agreeing terms.

Oh. Then why does anyone think we have any chance whatsoever?

City will offer him something like 2.5M a week.

I would rather go to Chelsea than City. At Chelsea, if you don't like your manager you are allowed to oust him. It's in the contracts.

Of course, at City you are allowed to feck off on holiday for a few months without permission and then come back like nothing happened.

Both great perks. How can United compete with that?

Right, so his agent saying we are "interested" is the same as Hazard confirming that we have negotiated a contract with him with the permission of his club and he is happy with the terms and his clubs chairman saying he is happy for Hazard to choose which club he goes to.

Yeah sounds "about the same".

When and how did he confirm that so explicitly?

How could this be possible?

Because supposedly City are "only" willing to offer £110k a week, they don't want a 21 year old earning more money than all their established stars. Chelsea on the other hand are probably offering £200k a week because they've never given a feck.

New Belgium coach Marc Wilmots is to hand striker Eden Hazard the number 10 shirt for the friendly matches against Montenegro and England.

"He's been particularly strong for the last two seasons with Lille in Ligue 1," said Wilmots. "He's always wanted to wear the number 10 shirt and he will get it."

Dzeko wears #10 for City and he'll most likely be leaving this summer. Though in that quote it may just mean he's wanted to wear the number 10 shirt for his country rather than any team.

Fergie will only ever give the number 7 shirt to a young player when they demonstrate great courage and determination. With such a proud history with regards to the shirt, it was a smart move to give it to Owen rather than the likes of Nani given the laters already ridiculous association with being the next Ronaldo. I feel Nani is destined to wear number 11 when Giggs retires so it will be interesting to see if Hazard does sign, will he get it.

Didnt Ronaldo get it straight away before demonstrating anything???

God, I never thought of that.

I wonder if he likes golf ;)

That was true a few years ago, not any more though. Now they're the champions, can offer champions league football, offer realistic chances of competing for all major honours as well as offering the best wages.

If this is true, than this could be the reason why it was this change of heart in him. The good side of all this is that we can offer the same wages as City.

Still, I think that all is bollocks.

When and how did he confirm that so explicitly?

Well it was his agent that confirmed it but that is besides the point. It is clearly a lot more advanced than anything that ever happened with Sanchez.

‘We are no longer in the negotiations stage. We have reached agreement with all parties,’ Bico said.

‘Eden has already said he wants it to be fixed before June 2. He will decide after the (Belgium) games against Montenegro and England, then go on holiday with peace of mind.’

“Eden is in the reflections stage and a decision will be taken quickly,” Bico said. “Those who have come forward have a one-in-three chance (of success).”

Hazard previously said this himself confirming it was originally between United and City:

"To Manchester, as I have already said. The decision will be taken soon. I have made my choice 90 per cent. There are always small things that can change everything. You will soon know where my future lies," said Hazard, who is believed by some to favour a move to Old Trafford.
"City have won the title this year, and they have great players, a great coach and a nice project. At United, we all know Sir Alex Ferguson and all the talented players he has in his squad."

Didnt Ronaldo get it straight away before demonstrating anything???

Yep, Ronaldo wanted his 28 from Sporting but Fergie had other ideas:

"we have given Ronaldo this shirt because he is young and is going to do great things. A number of great players in the club's history have worn this shirt. Ronaldo has great confidence in his abilities and he is going to be here for a while. The number 7 shirt is his."

This video was posted on twitter...I guess it isn't speculation since sky is the source. Posted it in the hazard thread too but many won't be able to view it because of the amount of spam in that thread.

"Hazard's agent claims an agreement has been reached between all the parties interested in the Lille Midfielder. It is our understanding that hazard will choose Manchester United ahead of a move to rivals Manchester City or Chelsea." - SKY 1pm GMT today.

Taken from newbies

Okay, that's more than what happened with Sánchez.

But "reached an agreement" - no. That would imply they agree that Hazard wants to play here and the club want him. That hasn't happened yet. We've made an offer and now he's mulling over it with two other offers also on the table. Take it or leave it stage.

I still don't see how we have any chance here. I also don't see why Fergie is so hellbent on signing attackers - if we're really in for him and it's not just the agent saying so - instead of midfielders but that's another thing.

Seems like both clubs have done a deal with Lille, and Hazard is just waiting to pick his destination. Interesting that we at least have the desire to commit around 40m (?) on a top class talent.

We have reached an agreement. We have reached an agreement that if he decides he wants to sign for us, no further negotiations are required. He is happy with the contract we have offered him and he is happy with the contract City and Chelsea have offered him. If he wasn't happy with any of them, he'd have said so and they would be out of the running for his signatures.

How do I know this? Because his agent said "We are no longer in the negotiations stage. We have reached agreement with all parties" now call me daft but that sounds to me like an agreement has been reached in terms of his contract, whether he wants to play for us is another matter.

That is on the transfer fee. He will have 3 different contract offers drawn out by the 3 clubs and it will be up to him to pick the club/contract that best suits him.

I get what you're saying, but surely it doesn't work like that...?

It all sounds very idealisitc, like he only wants a certain amount of cash etc, and having been assured of that, he will pick purely on footballing reasons.

Surely, if nothing else, his agent would stop such noble behaviour? Once he's picked his club, go to the other two and say "he's off to club X unless you up your offer". Repeat until all but one club drop out.

Sadly SSN are an unreliable source so we'll have to wait and see how it plays out.

No, the Lille chairman has said he is leaving it to Hazard to decide where he wants to go, when he has decided the club can then look to make an agreement on his transfer fee.

His buyout is supposed to be £30m, a fee we've had no problem paying in the past.
