Covers the ground rapidly, aggressive in the tackle, tremendous aerial presence (he's got spring loaded legs) and good on the ball, I really like what we've seen so far. Personality wise I can see him being the new Evra. :D

No pressure to the young lad, eh? :D

I like that he's a pro-active CB. And sometimes it looks like the space become calm when he has the ball. He shows who's the boss and in control. It's fecking weird.

Loved his Rio-esque touch when Vardy charged at him close to the end. Guy can play a bit.

Tell all the midfielders they can go score some goals while Bailly and Smalling hold down the fort. Like how Vidic and Ferdinand used to.

Exciting stuff. The hint of mentalness adds rather than detracts. I think we may love this guy.

He concerned me when Vardy burned him, and when he rushed in too early allowing Vardy to bundle through. He did make up for it though, on multiple occasions. By way of first games this was great.

Vidic + Evra were both poor/average in the first season for us (Jan transfers so they had it harder, but still).

Fell a little in love with him today - but not exactly the calming influence I hoped to see beside Smalling :D

Early days obviously, but my anxiousness for us to sign another CB certainly receded after today, him and Smalling together could be exciting.

He seems like a happy lad, and looks like he's comfortable and settled within the squad already.

Trying to not get too carried away here but it's hard not to as I have been very impressed with this lad. Did well against Vary today. He seems like a proper defender. Strong, fast, very technical and good on the ball which is a bonus. Brought the ball out from defence a few times which is good to see. His play certainly reminds me of Rio. He seems very confident for his age.

If he can form a good partnership with Smalling then we can have our brick wall back again and because of that he could end up being our best signing this season.

He exudes authority and confidence through just stopping the ball dead when he intercepts the ball. He is obviously not the play-maker from deep like Blind is but I wonder what people who thought he was suspect on the ball were watching. Top class scouting from the club.

Just got back from Wembley and gheez did this guy impress today. He kept Jamie Vardy (long ball/speed merchant) very quite today despite this being what the press called his toughest introduction to English football he could have had. I know it's only one game but with his pre season performances as well it looks like money well spent.

Can't wait to see him and Smalling next to each other. What a power house they could become for the next 10 years.

This thread reminds me a little bit of Rojo's after a few games. People creaming themselves prematurely.

I still don't know what I really make of this guy, but showed promise today at times.

Yes it's only one game but if he is able to play how he played today consistently then 32m for him is a fecking steal. Will be even sweeter because he turned down citeh.

I liked the look of him but some of his challenges were a little reckless. I can see him collecting quite a few cards and perhaps suspensions. If he can control that he could become a very good defender.

Considering how sharp Vardy and Musa looked, Bailly's performance should make us feel optimistic. He was comfortably man of the match. Considering how few truly top class centre backs are on the market, looks great value at £30m.

Anyone see him making Zlatan smile when they went to collect their medals.. this is a guy who has got Zlatan's respect already.

That arsehole at the Beeb thought he would've been sent off today if it was a PL match.

On an unrelated note, he's also released an article on the BBC Sport website about how Mata will be desperate to leave now after the community shield sub debacle. Such a bitter man.

He's class, enough said.

Really excited to see him and Smalling together as I think it can be a very good CB partnership.

He has that classy calm with the ball under pressure that top defenders have . Something Smalling didn't have at all (but LVG drilled into him - tbf to the man).

Very early - makes too many mistakes but has all the right attributes. It's foolish to compare him with established players like Vidic, Rio etc. at this moment though.

Like Shaw, he's got everything he needs in his locker. Could be a good season ahead if he irons out a few creases.

Just needs to realise that doesn't have win every ball as can give away silly fouls and bookings....but really reminds me of a young Desailly.....

I will wait, once he has more than one or two good games before preseason for us, premier league is different animal and he's a lot to learn, hope does well of course..

The absolute madman!

Exactly. Rojo after first first few games was similarly put on a high pedestal. It was an encouraging performance sure, but we should also have patience when he gets his first red card or give away a needless penalty, because he seems capable of that right now.

Hard not to be excited about him after his performances thus far. We would certainly be wise to remember his youth and relative inexperience though, as he is sure to make a few mistakes and perhaps cost us some points along the way. With that being said, he has all the tools to be an incredible player and a stalwart at the back for a decade or more.

With transfer fees seemingly rising by the minute, 30 million euro (or pounds, can't find an official figure) might end up being quite a bargain. There are only a handful of other defenders out there around his age that have a similar pedigree (Varane, Laporte, Gimenez, Romagnoli, Stones, etc.) and all would command significant fees.
