Did not see thread about it and draw is on at the moment.

So far Liverpool is with Rubin,Bordeaux. Spurs are with Monaco and Anderlecht.

Edit: Oh and Sly you are going in Russia again ;)

Ajax, Celtic, Fenerbache, Molde

Group of death.

Dortmund with a horrible group, they have to travel to Greece, Russia, and Azerbaijan.

Celtic has a harder group than us and Spurs' one ain't too far off

Europa League should be fairly interesting this year with the likes of Dortmund, Celtic, Ajax and Liverpool there.

Brugges, Midtyjajdaldldlaland and Napoli for Legia / Basel, Fiorentina and Bellendseslels for Lech.

Oh well, seems like we're fecked.

Sporting must have fecked with some supernatural force or something. Not only did they get screwed by refs three years in a row, they now got drawn into a group where they - as Europes city furthest to the west - have to travel to Moscow, Istanbul and Albania.
I'm sorry @Sly you're a great user and nice guy but that is so hilarious :lol::lol:

No reason for Rodgers not to win that group.

Yep. Rubin are shite now, Bordeaux are nothing special and I don't really have to say anything more about FC Sion.

Liverpool were fecking appalling in Europe last year. Losing home and away to Real Madrid is fair enough but their performances in the other games were shite.

Be interesting to see how they do this season.

So many interesting teams in the EL this year and we get opponents at the end of the world :wenger:

The only one being happy about that is probably Turkish Airlines, because they get to show off their BVB plane a lot....

 For real. It´s all good i can take some banter, except on the day we lose (yeah i did have a small meltdown heh). I can´t believe we get russians again. Oh well i´m not that upset this time because i genuinely want us to get eliminated as soon as possible. I doubt it will happen because not only Jorge Jesus is a very good manager in the Europa League (got to two finals with Benfica), but we also are the strongest team in the group (unless we sell any influencial player because of missing the Champions League). The travelling is worry though since it can have a physical toll on our players. Anyways i don´t really care about the Europa League (i´d play secondary line up and B team players), our main objective is winning the league.

Surely with the frequent-flyer points that Sporting squad will accumulate they pretty much have made up for the loss of income from missing the Champions League. Good karma, I'm happy for you.

Certainly got a lot to do to consign that miserable shite to history. At least this season we don't have Lambert and Gerrard leading our attack force. Combined age of 77 (?)

And a combined speed of a turtle overtaking a snail.

I don´t get it. Was it a joke?

Well, it may not have been funny, but surely you don't think I was serious? :)

Frequent-flier points are worth money. You fly far, you get money (in the way of future free flights).

I know what frequent fliers get, i´m one. I just think i´ve seen you do better efforts. Maybe im too grumpy since wednesday.

I haven't posted in a while so bare with me this might be a long post . There a lot of optimisium around Sporting thanks to the signing of Jorge Jesus and of course the signings made along with the emergence of some players. We have a very talented bunch of players and are clearly favorits in this group and I expect nothing less then topping this group. Sly as to what you said on hoping we get eliminated and play B team players I don't agree with that at all progressing and going far in a European competition let it be Champions league or Europa league is prestigious for any club and allows your players to gain more recognition a long with the team as well. If we play B team players as you suggested and want to get knocked out in the group stage we might as well not be in Europe and that's even worse because a team as big as Sporting Clube de Portugal should always be in Europe and In the Europa league at least should always be aiming to get to the latter stages of the competition . In my opinion we should clearly be in the champions league ( I'm not even going to comment on the 2 legs vs CSKA because I'm trying to forget what happened ) no disrespect to CSKA but we in my opinion have more quality in our ranks and I believe we are a better side though CSKA do have some quality players two of them which were a handful for sporting. Nonetheless I would love for us to win the Europa league because If we want as José alvalade said "queremos que o Sporting seja um grande Clube tão grande quanto os maiores da europa" winning competitions such as the Europa league are steps to doing that. Either way I have no doubt that we are going to grow a lot under Jesus and we will only get better we have the quality for that and a very good coach in Jorge Jesus as well. Under Bruno de Carvalho we have been evidently growing and getting better year by year and I hope that trend continues as I see a bright future for Sporting . We have won the Supercup to start the season and I hope more trophies follow this year. I do agree with you though Sly the league is clearly our main objective.

As usual I will leave some players to watch out for in Sporting as well as another very talented player coming through our famed academy

Andre Carrilo ( if he does not leave as he is in the last year of his contract) - he has been very good so far and continuing his form from last season great player skill speed and great technical ability are some of his best assets.

William Carvalho (injured)- needs no introduction.

Joao Mario - big talent and has a had a very good start to the season as well .

Gelson Martins- this young man is a very talented younger winger fantastic speed and skill on the ball big talent for us this is his first season in the first team for us and he has done well every time he has come on for us this season keep an eye on this kid you will be hearing from him in the near future.

Carlos mane - had a good season last year scoring 9 goals and providing 4 assists I except more of the same from him this year .

P.S- sorry for the long post it's been awhile ... Also good luck to Manchester United this season excited to see players such as memphis and Bastian this season will be rooting for them as always ( due us a favor vs CSKA in the champions league ).

Maybe im too grumpy since wednesday.

Could be worse. When Porto was losing 6-1 against Bayern I started posting pictures of my girlfriend in here.

Welcome back. Yeah it´s all fine and dandy, what you wrote makes sense but after what i saw in the two games against CSKA, i think it´s only normal that i don´t give a crap about Uefa competitions at the moment. Like i said i hope we get eliminated as soon as possible so we can focus on the league. Doing these crappy big trips to play this meaningless (in my opinion) competition doesn´t help that.

Damm missed that :D When Porto lost 6-1 to Bayern i was actually in Wales defending Porto from my welsh co workers calling Porto a pub team. I blame it all on Totolotopegui.

I fully understand I felt the same way it's happened way too much so far this season where the ref seems to be an influence but nonetheless by not "participating" in the Europa league we get no benefit from that and UEFA won't care either so there's no gain from it where as winning this competition as a team like Sporting should be aiming to do we will most definitely reep the benefits. Due we belong in the champions league ? Most definitely as I said in my last post no disrespect to CSKA but we are a better side I have no doubt but other "influences" didn't allow it nonetheless we have to move on because the season is still young .

Raoul gently removed them... Unfortunately she had seen them already. In fact she's probably reading this right now. Love you Patti <3

Why is she reading the Manchester United forum? Is she tracking you? are you on the ashley madison leak? just kidding mate (damm perhaps this was as bad as the frequent flier post :D).

And like @SportingCP96 I think you should wish for a good Europa League performance. You too will, when the grumpiness fades down. I understand the frustration.

Both Benfica and Porto in recent years have shown that it's perfectly possible to aim for a good Europa League participation and still be competitive in the league. In Portugal we have the luxury of playing on Mondays after EL matches, which diminishes the exhaustion problems. You gain prestige, a good performance against a stronger team might be all that it takes to make a few players noticed and more valued in the market. Plus, the points will be useful when you next qualify for CL again and remain top-seeded in a playoff or better placed in the group stages. Last but not least, your players will welcome the international experience for the future.

I may have told her that I mentioned her during the game and curiosity took the best of her. Frustration leads to stupid things. I just had no idea she would be able to find the posts. All turned out well in the end :)

Exactly also as you said the players need the experience of playing in top level European competition despite what happened in the playoffs no one can deny that the second half by sporting vs cska in moscow was truly appalling and After having 75% of the playoffs in control by leading 1-0 at halftime with only 45 minutes to go it was a lack of inexperience that led to a terrible second half . Nonetheless we had done enough to through if not for other "situations ". Either way I hope we go far in the Europa and Arruda good luck to Porto in the Champions league I think you guys have an accessible group second place is very possible .

Well i actually don´t mind having a go on the Europa league but this season has special circunstancies. It´s our first good try for championship in god knows how long, that´s why i´m giving zero interest to the competition. I know it´s perfectly doable to be competitive on both competitions but i just want to focus on the league. What you wrote makes perfect sense but it´s a matter of wanting full focus on the league and giving it full priority. I remember some years back with Domingos, our league form fell down the drain when we lost Rinaudo (in the small time he was decent) to injury on a crappy Europa League match that counted for nothing. I like european football but in this specific year i would prefer to have the english approach to Europa League (giving it very low priority).

Surprised that Southampton being knocked out last night has flown under the radar, that's appalling from both them and West Ham who should both have had enough to get them through to the Group Stages. Neither of them are going to get another chance like that in a while i don't think and it doesn't help our coefficient either.

I agree this will be the first season In a long time that we will be genual contenders but I feel Porto will Take it this year with Sporting coming second and benfica third . We have the best coach of the 3 but this is Jesus first season at Sporting and he's implementing a whole new style of play which will take a while to fully click I definatly feel we have the quality but I don't think it will be this year . The most important factor of all is that Porto and Benfics know what it takes to be champions they have that mentality Sporting don't but that can all change and I hope it does maybe this is just me being negative but I think the top 3 will be as I said above . Though I hope I'm wrong and we win it all

I think most people would have expected Southampton to go through they have a better Squad then there opponents anyone who saw the game know what happened or how they played ?

I actually think it´s a good year to have a proper go because both Porto and Benfica have not so good managers in Lopetegui and Rui Vitória. But we will see how it goes. I just hope we don´t get more injuries like Carvalho and Ewerton. These two along with the crappy referee displays put the biggest dent on our Champions League credentials.

I do too but I feel the team still has to gel and really begin to understand Jesus's ideas for example in all our games after we score our intensity lowers and we allow the other team to get back in the game after we score we have to go in for the kill. And I fully agree that the loss of William and Ewerton made a big difference William is easily our best player and under the new formation and style of play were playing a proper DM is needed especially one with the quality of William. I can see him having his best season under Jesus but his Injury was a shame also Ewerton would have brought more stability to our back line though I feel we should have signed a center back with proven credentials to put next to the undoubted quality of Paulo Oliveira with that said I'm not fully convinced on Naldo and I see more quality in Tobias though he is still raw he put in some good performances last season. I also hope Teo can be the out and out finisher we need. With 3 goals in 4 appearances it's a good start but I'm still not fully convinced on his performances. I like slmani and he's always a threat but he misses too many opportunities.

Be interesting to see how serious Spurs and Pool are going to treat the EL.

From the first three games I can't see either getting near top 4 this season. So maybe they want to have a real go in EL.

I'll be following EL closely this season to see how Dortmund fares.
