Europa League 2015/2016

Counting on Dortmund to do the business over 2 legs, if United don't get top 4 AND don't win the FA Cup, I couldn't stand Liverpool winning the Europa League to top it all off..

Why's tuchel wearing a bin bag?

Quite possibly the Worst coat in existence is that.

Just realised I was wrong, but this game does have some effect on our CL 'hopes'. If Liverpool beat Dortmund over two legs they will probably win the Europa and then City winning the CL will screw us over (unlikely though)

Edit: No you are right, if City win the CL in 5th we will lose our spot in 4th anyway
To clear up (i think)

In the unlikely event that we finished 4th (thus qualifying for the CL) only City can take it away from us (by winning the CL but finishing outside top 4).

If Liverpool win the Europa they will be in the CL as a 5th qualifier from England regardless of where they finish in the league. It has no effect on the 4th spot CL qualifier.

If Liverpool do win Europa Cup good on them. If not their fault we are as pathetic as we currently are!

As top 4 is not a possibility for them and with a modern European minded manager, they have a great chance sneaking onto the CL via this route

were you the guy who hoped Stevie G would get a title winner's medal?

No mate, it's changed.... it's the COMBO of both of City and Pool coming outside top 4 and winning their cups that would keep us out.
Either/Or wouldn't.

Before this year, the Europa didn't have a champs league place, so when Tottenham finished 4th and Chelsea were outside top 4 but won the cup...Tottenham missed out. (Only 4 places per country allowed back then)

Now, up to 5 places are allowed...so it needs victors in both cups, who have fallen outside top 4 to keep the 4th placed team out.
So between the 2 we should be ok. Roll on performing well enough to get top 4!

From the Uefa website itself.....

Regarding the top three associations (i.e. Spain, Germany and England*): if two clubs from one of these countries win the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, and neither finish their domestic league in a position that qualifies them for the UEFA Champions League, the following will happen:

– The club that won the UEFA Champions League will go straight into the group stage
– The UEFA Europa League winners will go into the UEFA Champions League play-offs
– The club that had qualified for a UEFA Champions League play-off spot via their domestic league competition (i.e. finished fourth) will transfer into the UEFA Europa League

I think it's fair to say Hummels is good enough for any starting XI in the Premier League.

I see they're lining up the 'Heroic Liverpool' narrative.

I do not get Mhikitaryan. He's so wasteful everytime I see him in the CL/EL. A bad decision machine.

Must be good in the Bundesliga.

I think I heard that he had 10 goals and 12 assists this season in the German League. Must be doing something right domestically.

so far liverpool easily dealing with world beaters dortmund at their stadium.

Imagine if they did clamp down on an extra place, and we needed to come 3rd!! Cripes.

I was arguing last week with a Pool supporting mate that it's City who would in effect stop us getting in the champions league by winning it, and Liverpool's win wouldn't actually do the job. But I guess it's the combo of both, no one greater than the other.

We're about 40-60 to even get top 4 anyway, so I expect it'll be a moot point.

Really hope Dortmund do get their game together though.
Although Sevilla are still in there, haven't they won it twice in a row? (I haven't checked, as I find this cup a real sh!Thouse)
Can you imagine the number of stars and planets that would have to align for 'Pool to win the EL, City to miss out on 4th but win the CL and us to scrape 4th (saving LvG's job in the process) only to lose out on top tier European footy. Wonder what the odds would be?
