Europa league

Ye but they dont do it in the CL and the TV potential there is much bigger

Well done on the club for sorting that - although it could now get very messy

The CL games are played over two days, all the Europa league matches are on Thursday. You can watch two CL games but if all the Europa league games kicked off at 7:45 you can only watch one.

good point - didnt think of it like that

that 6pm slot is still shit though!

I'm staying in Liverpool that night but going to the game....means I'm gonna have to travel back on the train with all their fans. Bollocks! Hopefully we'll win so I can sit there incognito but inwardly smug!

I need to ask everyone's opinion as I have just had a slight disagreement with some fellow supporters and friends of mine.

We usually play 5aside on Thursday nights from 8-9, which will cause a problem with Europa league the next 2 weeks. Now I straight away opting out of 5aside as United always come 1st to me but my mates seem to think it's acceptable to record the match and watch it later. I strongly disagree especially with the opponents being Liverpool.

So would you agree or disagree with me on this 1

Depends, wouldn't be so bad if you watch it on record if your initial plans were to watch it alone anyway. As long as the result doesn't get spoiled, that is!

Yeah, I have to do this quite often for work. It's not quite the same but it is acceptable if you ask me.
That said, I'd blow off five aside for this match.

Been there, used to put the 5aside team first.
A good team (not in the ability sense, but the camaraderie) should have a queue wanting to play, and if one guy doesn't want to, then ditch him.

It's all for tv and nothing else. 2 matches on one evening can be televised live. It's not so bad in the rest of Europe as the early match is at 7pm or later, not 6pm.
A bit late to this... but it's not all for TV (although, partly).

A 7:45 pm kick off is 9:45 pm in Ukraine, and 10:45pm in Moscow. UEFA try to make it so that the Eastern European countries kick off at 6pm British time (7pm, 8pm or 9pm local time) whilst the Western European countries kick off at 8pm British time (8pm or 9pm local time).

I've noticed though, that UEFA didn't care at all about Shamrock Rovers home ties (all were at 6pm) and that if all teams from one country are drawn at home(/away) in the same leg, they will force 1 team to play at the "wrong" time.

Anyway, glad it's been moved.

I often have the same issue and I sack off the 5aside everytime - Ive never been into recording the match and watching it later though, for me it has to be live or I dont bother watching it

I have to record and watch the the game later in the evening sometimes, but it's never the same as watching live.

There's always something missing when you know the outcome has already been reached.

Sack of 5-a-side I say.

I can't do it. I need to know the score even if I can't watch it.

I never used to be able to when I was a kid, but eventually stuff like girlfriends and work meant I had to learn to be ok with recording and watching a few hours after the fact, as long as the result doesn't get spoiled (that makes me go bonkers).
Never quite the same as watching live of course, you don't have that irrational sense that you cheering and shouting at players can actually affect the outcome. But if it's something you have to do/enjoy doing very much, it's passable.

Get better friends.

That's me 100%! Tried explaining that to someone in the pub Wednesday night – think they'd had too many though!

I know that in the CL far eastern clubs play early because of time and lighting differences but all clubs in the EL seem to get at least one early and late per round. While there's still at least 32 teams in the competition don't they just alternate the games? Play early first leg play late for the return leg (and vice-versa) this gives better chance of TV coverage for countries with lots of participants at each stage and stops fixture clogging.

Think we have a good chance at winning this and that we will beast Dortmund if we meet them.

Beast Dortmund?

Jesus, four wins in a row and we're great again.

Lumpia99 calm down, we have done quite ok vs most good/traiditional big clubs type of opposition. Spurs, City, Arsenal, Liverpool.

Not scared of the decent teams left in the Europa, lvg is quite decent at handling the teams who dare to come at us.

We got smashed by Arsenal in October and none of those four teams are as good as Dortmund anyway.

They'd have to support a team to understand. To me it's the only possible reason why watching live is so much better than watching it delayed, even without knowing anything at all about the match.

It's just that crazy feeling that "live" I can scream my head off at my TV and it may somehow help or change the outcome … however that course of action would be pointless when the result is already done and dusted!

Any of those four teams could beat Dortmund on their day. Spurs has a chance if they don't rest players for the league. And it's irrelevant to name ONE selective result vs Arsenal a while ago, we have beaten them just one week ago with a youth team and I was talking overall/in general we have done fine vs the top teams anyway. Dortmund aren't all that.

On the day yeah, but since it's over two games, they'll have to do something special in one of the games.

And again Champions league hangs on this tournament.

My biggest worry is Liverpool are due a win against us, they aren't playing to bad either.

How many shots on target will we manage in this game. 3 against Watford, 2 against West Brom doesn't bode well, although Liverpool are more likely to attack us leaving opportunities for us to counter. I'm really not very hopeful about tomorrow's match at all. I would happily take a score draw at this moment in time. In fact I'd take an 'LVG special' scoreless draw as well....
