Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

In any case, Evra was found not to have said that. It was a lie by Liverpool to give Saurez an 'excuse' to have said what he said.

That's what I find really strange. Even if it's true, Liverpool bringing up a conversation where their guy's background is referred to in an abusive way, given the response referring to Evra's colour, that's Liverpool giving the commission enough rope to hang Suarez with, because it makes him bang to rights on the charge. Again, 'self defence' is not applicable when it comes to this, if they both racially abuse each other then they both get banned just the same, the only possible difference being a longer ban for the guy who started it.

Was the 'South American' claim made in actual statements to the commission or when talking to newspapers? The second one would make a lot more sense, if they were speaking without any legal advisement.

What astounds me is that Commolli and Kuyt initially reported that Suarez had told them that he had said to Evra that it was because he was black, and THEY WERE OKAY WOTH THAT?!!!!

Un-frigging-believable! How can any Liverpool supporter be okay with that?!!

Liverpool have no way whatsoever to save face. Not only have we struck a victory (for eight games, at least) against racism, we've sat back and watched a rival club bury itself. 'Liverpool FC: Proudly supporting racism since 2011' should be the club's epitaph.

Of all their regrets, attacking Evra's character so vehemently without any actual evidence to do so must be at the top of their list as they consider whether they can accuse the FA of doing something similar to Suarez.

Just seen the clip of Suarez pinching Mr Evra's skin... Anyway, I was thinking, if what Suarez did took place in the workplace, he would've been sacked. So how come football's different? Because he's an asset? At the very least he should be heavily fined by Liverpool.

There's not a law requiring that you get sacked at work for anything you do, it's always dependent on how important you are to your employer. Footballers always get away with more, especially very good ones, the same would be true for anyone earning a similar amount to him.

The club should absolutely take action against him. They won't, though. Horrible fans, horrible club.

He won't though. He will probs be even more of a hero to those lowlife fans . Made for each other

I agree that there's one rule for one... but considering racial abuse is illegal in this country, football's anti racism campaign and the FA saying Saurez damaged the image of the game in this country(strong words), don't you feel he's got off very lightly? He didn't get banned for just saying 'because you're black' - the abuse was vile.

I honestly can't believe Liverpool were aware of some of those facts and still paraded around wearing t-shirts. Kuyt reported Suarez said "because you are black" and yet he still goes out in a public display of protest. fecking disgrace of a club.

If I were the owner I'd get rid of Kenny and Comolli immediately, seriously what were they thinking

That's a little harsh on Kuyt, he probably wanted to just keep everything to himself and just get on with the football....then unfortunately got caught up in things first by being hauled up to provide evidence then secondly being handed a Suarez shirt to wear. What was he going to do, refuse to wear the shirt?

That would have caused dressing room problems - imagine captain Stevie G and Dalglish addressing the players, "lads, luis is not walking alone - here you go, put on these t-shirts with his mug on it, we are going to show to world today that we are fully behind him"...Stevie G proceeds to walk around the dressing room, handing out these shirts but when he comes to Kuyt, Kuyt says "Sorry Sctheeve, Luis is a what-you-call a raschist, I'm not wearing that schirt"

Cue carnage...have some pity on Kuyt, he was just trying to stay out of it, i reckon.

They are officially an institution which supports acts of racism and those who perpetrate it. How disgusting is that? The rebranding of their ground as Klanfield is very apt. Thousands upon thousands of fans have become racist sympathisers because of their actions. The anti- racism campaign has been massively defiled in a few short weeks after being nurtured for so many years. At the very least their owners should be sacking KKK Kenny and Suaracist this week to save the good name of the club from being forever tarnished.

Sorry cant agree with that. It's called integrity. If I was in a similar position in the workplace I would not support such actions, and if it led to me being ostracised then so be it

Kuyt reported that Suarez had told him he told Evra it's because you are black; I just can not believe that he found that acceptable and further showed his support by wearing the t-shirt. Disgusting.

Yes, I do think he's got off lightly, but expecting Liverpool to bounce him out for it, to effectively give away a £30m asset possibly to one of their competitors, it's not realistic. It's something that would never happen unless he'd done something so terrible that no-one else would sign him up, and then maybe they could sack him for Gross Misconduct sue him for his transfer fee like Chelsea did with Mutu. If it was Rooney who had done it, we wouldn't sack him, John Terry could murder someone on live TV and Chelsea wouldn't sack him, Tevez allegedly refused to play and he hasn't been sacked.

Morally they should get rid of him, he's a thoroughly nasty piece of work, even without this - horrendous cheat - but if they were getting rid of players for moral reasons they'd have sold him ages ago. I don't expect them to sack players for moral reasons though, no major business does that, and in the case of Suarez it's too beneficial to them have the bastard. It's up to the authorities to deal with this sort of thing, and they should have given him a much longer ban.

EDIT: What is way beyond the pale though, is the way they go out of their way to make such ridiculous statements, both on their websites and physical statements in support of him in the shape of T-Shirts. Coming out in support of a man who has been found guilty of racist abuse, they should have been punished for bringing the game into disrepute, it's a disgrace.

I dont think many of them agreed to it but I'm not sure at your workplace you're not dealing with a character like King Kenny. I think this was forced on the players more so their decision. Look at the players' statement and then look at their faces while they're warming up with the shirts. It's a fecking joke

I agree with Skholesy, deciding not to wear the shirt is asking to be put on the transfer market.

Not to mention the nasty little shits that call themselves fans who issue death threats etc.

Kuyt isn't blameless, but I can see where he and Johnson are coming from. I wonder if we'll hear differently from them down the line or if they'll remain indoctrinated for life (a la John Barnes)

I can see where you're coming from, and i respect that. Not everyone likes controversy however, and i'd totally understand if a player knew about it but decided to just wear the shirt, albeit reluctantly, if only for the sole reason to avoid stirring up any ill feeling.

You also can't say for sure whether some/all those players wearing the shirt did it as a gesture to support suarez, or whether they just did it because they were asked to do so.

I have a feeling its the latter - this is just my imagination, i suppose, but its possibly that they could have been running out of the tunnel only to find the kit man or Gerrard handing out t-shirts, "you have to wear this".

I doubt any of the players gave a damn whether Suarez was racist or not, and didnt even care for showing any support - - i reckon they just wanted to get on with their game and season.

I can honestly say, hand on heart, if it were Rooney...I'd have wanted him out of the door. Some things are more important than football, and in this day and age no one should have to endure the type of abuse that Evra put up with. I suspect if it were just the odd comment that he would've let it pass, but it wasn't as we all well know(the pinching of the skin....Christ what the feck's wrong with people?), and he did the right thing by highlighting it. But yeah...he's too valuable an asset to sack, however, keeping him will be more damaging, which is why I suggested they ought to sell him in the summer...and start Operation Clean Up or something. Because as it stands they condone racism. Let's see what Standard Charter think of it.

Wishful thinking to hope Liverpool will take action against him with the written report out. They have already decided their stance, and it will be the same now, treat Suarez as a hero.

Anyone have a link to that Klanfield pic by Olly?

I can appreciate the reasons behind why the players would have felt forced to do as such, it was clear from the get go that the whole campaign was Kenny's doing.

I still can't help losing respect for a lot of the players who defended him knowing the circumstances. Some times you need to stand up for your values and this is a serious enough issue that if they didn't believe in the t-shirts they should have had the balls to say so. Kuyt could have arranged to come out late so that he didn't have to wear the shirt, it would hardly have been noticed. Defending a racist for the sake of not wanting to risk your job and position isn't something I'd be happy doing.

I wonder if Johnson would be happy to stand by Suarez now even if he was told to by the club. It's questionable whether Johnson was even aware of all the details, I'm sure they'd have wanted to keep the details between as few people as possible and Kenny could have gone in their bashed Evra and spoke about misinterpretation.

I hope that there is some case brought against Liverpool and Kuyt here.

Evra was falsely accused of saying he was booked because he was black. Something which Kuyt was certain he heard whereas Giggs and the ref said otherwise. And he was also falsely accused of calling Suarez "South American"

Didn't Dalglish say that if anyone was found to be lying about allegations they should be sued/punished? Look no further than Kuyt and Suarez you stupid cnut.

That'd be incredibly myopic. Sponsors care about image, and their reputation has been damaged. Is the place run by idiots or something?

Completely agree with this. I just can not have any pity for Kuyt at all. And I agree 100% with Spoony, if it were Rooney and under these circumstances I'd want him out

I agree. However, I would say you're giving too much credit to footballers (majority) having the intelligence to appreciate the connotations of their actions.

Seeing as they were privy to the details which secured his guilty verdict it would be difficult for them to change their stance. I can see a very neutral sweep under the carpet statement coming. They'll grudgingly accept the charge (while questioning Evra's character) and say their focus is now on the rest of the season.

As long as Suarez and Daglish are at the club it won't be forgotten about, sell one in the summer and force Daglish to quit for 'personal reasons' at the end of the season and Liverpool could bury the whole thing.

I suspect they regret it now, particularly Glen Johnson.
But I wouldn't be so certain that they knew exactly what was going on, if they did I am certain they wouldn't have worn them

It has to be, or they would never have reacted in the way they did, before even a charge had actually been made. If they had any sense during this, they would have recognized the possible serious and wider implications, and opted for caution until a written report explaining the decision was released. Their stance was to put aside and dismiss racism from the beginning, by offering complete and blind support to their player.

Saurez told Dalglish, Comolli and Kuyt about using the term 'negro', what he left out....was everything else.

I just hope Evra takes legal advice and takes Liverpool to court for defaming his character. Drag this further.

There's a fair few anti-racism campaigning groups who may be compelled to lobby the club or sponsors to take further action here. We're at a key point in time where immediate action is required to influence the direction of racism within football culture and the wider British society. The action of individuals at LFC and a large number of their fans, principally on the internet and through other mediums is beyond contempt.

I just hope Evra takes legal advice and takes Liverpool to court for defaming his character. Drag this further.

He ought to, to be fair. Thanks to Liverpool's actions he's had even more vile abuse hurled at him. Not only him but the likes of Collymore too.

Suarez later claimed that both had misheard him. Comolli is fluent in Spanish and Kuyt is native Dutch.

Regardless of the cross examination, didn't Suarez have to give his approval from what was told to the referee hence giving a once over of his statement to the ref. How the feck could he say that he 'misheard' after?

If I were the owner I'd get rid of Kenny and Comolli immediately, seriously what were they thinking

I hope Comolli and Kenny get the sack because they've tried to cover up racism at their own club and lie several times along the way.

Expecting Liverpool to bounce him out for it, to effectively give away a £30m asset possibly to one of their competitors, it's not realistic.

Even if they do keep him (which is likely) how much is he worth now? (10-15 million? IMO). This racism charge will have taken a dent into his transfer fee.

This whole shabby business shows why Liverpool have fallen behind United in the modern era - through poor management, administration and transfer-dealing, they are left with a mere one 'special' player, and now they're condemned to support him in the desperate hope of keeping him at Anfield. Desperation from Dalglish, a man the owners never wanted: they lacked the business sense to put the fans' wishes aside in favour of revolutionising the 'Liverpool way', a revolution which is long overdue and, perhaps, will never arrive now. The club's behaviour is not only shameful and selfish but also short-sighted...as we've come to expect.

Fair enough - you've got your principles and will stand up to it, i admire and respect that. I'm putting myself in Kuyt's shoes though, and if my priorities were my own family's livelihood and my own career, i would just wear the bloody shirt - its not as if i was going on a press conference to defend suarez's character whilst knowing what actually went on. I'd just wear that shirt as it meant nothing to me....you might call it gutless on my part, but hey-ho, what i'm saying that it's hard to predict what people should do when everyone has their own personal concerns.

Regardless, my point is that the culprit here is Suarez, so i think people should go easy on Kuyt and not associate him directly with the true crime of the matter.

I just hope Evra takes legal advice and takes Liverpool to court for defaming his character. Drag this further.

If we're looking at this in the broader context of achieving equality and respecting diversity in the game and wider society then he absolutely has to. This should never be able to happen again. The actions of the club and official journalists in instigating a smear campaign against an individual, because he has spoken out about being racially abused, are disgusting. Their calls for his punishment for doing so were misguided and inflammatory. The authorities also have a role in investigating this and preventing future occurances.
