Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

The FA working with their usual efficiency, I see.

How long have they waited to charge him? Any good reason why there's a massive difference with the time they took to charge Rooney?

Who are Liverpool playing next anyway?

<insert conspiracy theory here>

Take a lot less to call someone a swearer than it does to call someone a racist. Plus this is Evra's word against Suarez' whereas Rooney was 'caught' on camera. They have dragged their feet somewhat but I can understand it taking longer than most enquiries.

It's good to know that Dalglish's and Suarez's press campaign has backfired after they were told by the FA to shut up about it until after the case had been considered.

All of those fancy, time-consuming tests for mental illness and all they had to do was ask if the person had ever posted in the comments section of youtube (or similar).

They have to be until he's proven guilty.

edit - I'd expect us to do the same.

There's a marked difference between simply supporting your player, to backing him and demanding that the accuser is banned if there is not enough evidence.

Despite the FA asking for the clubs not to comment, Dalglish effectively fanned the flames and ensured that this issue would be polemically divided between club factions.

Also, given the defence presented by Suarez, where he has admitted to using specific terms but denied that they were racially motivated, I would have expected less vehement backing from Dalglish.

Something about Justin Bieber

I also think that the step taken by the FA means that John Terry is going to find himself in some hot water pretty soon too.

Not boiling water, unfortunately, but hot enough to be uncomfortable nonetheless.

Poor lad in the 2nd quote. Had the balls to admit he was ugly. Must be tough for him. You can tell he's in a crap job like.

feck me, how are people able to post such things on membership websites without being permanently removed from them?

Seems like Youtube remove advertising spam as quick as lightning, but aren't bothered about racist comments.

Amazing how quick a smear can spread these days.

On twitter, it's basically fact amongst LFC fans that Evra has falsely accused three players of racism previously.

This is apparently fact because a couple of high profile LFC writers tweeted such, and it was subsequently retweeted and spread through LFC fans everywhere thus increasing its fact-worthiness.

But speak to any of them and they'll say the smear is against Suarez.

That was reactionary, and kenny is a mouthpiece, and a knob, but I was referring to the club statement post announcement of charges. I dislike Liverpool too, but I'm not going to have double standards, if it was our player I'd like the club to back him until proof was produced and hammer him if he was found guilty.

yeah, as opposed to the intellectually tantalizing deed of posting on a manchester united forum

He has denied using racist abuse as he called him Negrito which literally means "Little black man" but in his country can also mean "mate". He claims United players called him "mate" so that means what he said is fine.

He called Evra that word in continued heated arguments all throughout the match. I am sure he really meant it when he called him 'mate' in those moments :wenger:

Firstly, I was reading RAWK and have been appalled by some of the comments. Amazing how lax their attitude is towards racism. Football fans have a tendency to "protect their own" but on some issues there should be zero tolerence.

Secondly, for those complaining about "how long it took" for the FA, well it is a matter of deciding on someones character. They must conduct a through investigation of the matter and something like this just doesn't go away with a 3 match ban. The term "racist" is something which sticks.

Which brings me onto my last point. Suarez has only been charged so far. Nothing has been decided. I'm a little uneasy with some United fans claiming "victory" and thinking the result is a forgone conclusion.

I will say this though, the FA wouldn't bring charges if they didn't have some sort of evidence or some sort of case for Suarez to answer.

Quote of the night from the comments on the telegraph site

After Dalglish's appalling comments about banning Evra I expect King Kenny will now do the decent thing and resign.

That will also save him being fired early next year for pissing away 50 million on Carroll and Henderson.

 Well said that man

The Express, however, has these articles:

CAHILL PRAISE FOR TERRY
TERRY GRATEFUL FOR FANS' SUPPORT
A THIRD COMING FOR JOHN TERRY THE VETERAN TROOPER

They're obviously going to do him and Terry now (or do him and let Terry off?). It would have been dropped quietly if not.

That's how I see it as well really. The fact that they've charged Suarez after waiting so long makes me think that they've already decided what the outcome will be.

Of course I might be proven wrong, but that's how I see it. The fact that I'm actually agreeing with peterstorey is a bit worrying though and not at all a good sign for my theory.

Had Trevor Benjamin not been a known name, having played for Leicester City in the Premier League, or worked for an anti-racism charity, or had coverage in The Sun then he might still be waiting for acknowledgement that his grievance had been fully addressed. And he has still only heard verbally from The FA; there has been no written communication regarding the outcome.

SILENCE EXISTS: SWEEPING RACISM UNDER THE CARPET

I've heard some atrocious shit from Liverpool fans tonight.

"But Evra is black."

"How come when people say white prick nobody says anything about it."

"If Evra called him a gnasher he wouldn't care because he is a top lad."

"Evra is a cnut."

and lots more brilliant excuses.

He wouldn't care because he is a top lad

Rofl, that's quality.

Evra getting tons of abuse at RAWK as expected, Suarez can do no wrong in their eyes.

I'm sure the club is loving all this....

not...

they only have themselves to blame with Dalglish coming out as he did.

as I said this is a lot bigger problem for the club than it seems now.

I think that's what's so interesting about this matter. If one of our players was to say something racist, I'm pretty sure there'd be a bit of a divide but also calling for the player to be banned or punished in some way. Obviously as fans we want to protect our own but for some reason those Liverpudlians have more cause to protect Suarez? I guess it's because of his influence.

If it was a player that wasn't getting much games or just flat out wasn't doing that good of a job for the club, I'm sure there'd be a different response from that lot. They know how serious this issue is. They're not being deluded for nothing. The prospect of losing a player that's given them something to sing about seems to override the issue at hand. If they do lose him, it will definitely cut them deep.

If anything, it intrigues me that when it comes to addressing adversity, the first instinct is to put the blame elsewhere. Saying things like Mr. Ferguson Association doesn't even make any sense. Dont they remember the 5 match ban he got? It's madness really.

I guess it comes down to, as a fan, what you're willing to give up. In this case, Suarez at the very least has admitted he said something and I'd say at that, you're kind of clutching at straws to say he's innocent. Racism is a very serious issue and if it is indeed proved that what he said was racist, then I hope that Liverpool fans wouldn't still defend him despite how well he's played for them. It's not something I'd tolerate from any of our players and they should see it the same way. Despite how good they are.

Like Charles Itandje.........
Hillsborough Memorial Incident

After the memorial service for the twentieth anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster in April 2009, complaints were made by members of the congregation that Itandje had been laughing and behaving inappropriately during the service.[11] His actions were condemned by the Liverpool hierarchy, who stated that they would be seeking to impose the maximum punishment possible.[11] Itandje apologised to the grieving families and to Liverpool fans for his behaviour and was suspended by the club for 14 days.[12] He never played another game, at reserve or first team level, for the club as a result of this incident.

I feel bad for the other Liverpool supporters that we quote RAWK so much.

Anyone have an idea what sort of punishment Suarez might expect if found guilty? Is there any precedent?

While I condemn racism, I'm not sure he needs to have his career ruined, if found guilty. Better to make an example of him with a long suspension, make him take sensitivity classes and do community service on race awareness for the rest of his career.

That won't work for shit, he'll probably think he did no wrong because of the inevitable hero/martyr status his club will probably give him after all this. And also we're talking about Suarez here, just one look of his face would tell you that he's set up for being a cnut-for-life.
