Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

It's really weird because I doubt any legal eagle would have OKed a statement ahead of a considered reading of the judgment and banging that crap out ahead of legal opinion is just not what you do.
I can just imagine Dalglish barging into the studio that runs the Liverpool website, pushing his way to the keyboard and typing some very angry words...

I do wonder whether Dalglish is (distastefully) trying to create a bit of a seige mentality at Liverpool much like Ferguson tries to do when United are in the press for whatever reason.

The comments are priceless.

Indeed.

Hi All,

You will notice the absence of my comments under tonight's articles by David, Ollie and Martin. David knows how angry I am, so I see no reason to write down my feelings at the moment.

Except to say, that I am very angry and if I could bump into Fergie in the next couple of days, he would not know what had hit him, by the time I had finished.

Faith

So it's Sir Alex Ferguson's fault now that their own player has been found guilty of racism? Who's next? Refs?

In some quarters (and RAWK is living breathing evidence of this), LFCs actions have set the anti racism movement back 30 years

Fergie's name has been mentioned a few times by Liverpool fans with relation to this from what I see. My only question is... why? Completely and utterly ridiculous.

Edit: Plan_M mentioned it first..

Damn, I thought I'd hit pay dirt here... unless he's still filling in as a freelance...

Our fixture v Liverpool at Old Trafford is going to be even more heated than usual this season.

To me 8 matches, or 6 or anything comparable to other bans is odd. Not knowing what was said I would have thought with racism it's either nowt or 6 months. Are we going to have degrees of racism. Not saying which it should be without the facts. And like quoted above if there is guilt involving racism, will the cops be obliged to get involved?

this was my initial feeling on hearing the verdict. I can only think the relatively lenient sentence was due to mitigation/interpretation of the use of the word. Still, puzzling.

Alvin Martin sounds furious - "Luis Suarez has not been proven guilty" - Erm he has Mr Martin.

Of all of the people to tease out the age old question of the difference between being found guilty anD being proven guilty I would suggest Alvin Martin isn't the person to disarm that particular semantic landmine.

If I was a dipper and if Suarez was still playing for my club, I would seriously question if I could still support my club or not.

I wouldn't start blaming crucifying everyone against us.

I feel sad that the Government has let down the scousers so much over the past decades.

They deserve the right to an education like everybody else...

They should get the opportunity to call their teacher Sir....

It really is staggering how huge the difference of opinions is between the two sets of fans. All common sense = out the window!

Even the Guardian wanted to mention Evra's case against Chelsea, where the FA amazingly decided the evidence in Evra's case against Chelsea was "exaggerated and unreliable", but don't mention that Evra never claimed to have heard any racist words in that case. Does anyone know what was supposed to be "exaggerated and unreliable" about that case? Wasn't it Phelan who heard the racist comment? Was that supposed to be "exaggerated and unreliable"?

This is all brought up before they mention that Suarez ADMITTED TO SAYING A RACIST WORD.

And now we'll see character assassination by Liverpool, which is probably worse than the abuse Evra received from Suarez.

Liverpool should be punished for their statement. And quite frankly, 8 games isn't enough imho.

He hasn't been found guilty of racism, they worded it differently. He has been found guilty of using abuse with reference to the person's background, or some such fudging.

Essentially he's been found guilty of using racist language. FWIW I don't think he is a racist and have said so before the guilty verdict. Though I may just call him one for kicks and I don't really have much fondness for him or his club at the moment.

Ordinarily I'd agree, but in this case everyone neutral seems to agree with us? There is no support in the media for Liverpool's position.

I know. I mean before the verdict as well. As soon as Evra made these claims, it was only ever United vs Liverpool.

I would guess that pretending to say the word 'mate' whilst knowing full well it actually meant. I.e.; he was trying to wind Evra up by using racial connotations.
This is different from Terry who if found guilty will get 6 months for saying what he did.

I do wonder whether Dalglish is (distastefully) trying to create a bit of a seige mentality at Liverpool much like Ferguson tries to do when United are in the press for whatever reason.

That's the only thing I can think of. Disgusting to do it over something like this, Dalglish should be trying to defuse the situation, instead he's making it much worse.

Evra is the victim, and now he'll need security to walk the streets of Liverpool.

I've just read the Liverpool statement.
I can't believe they're still trying to take pot shots at Evra, and they're using the Sepp Blatter defence by trying to associate him with black friends/players etc.

What on earth were they thinking? I'm almost embarrassed for them!
