Evra accuses Suarez of racist remarks | Suarez guilty of racial abuse

Durham is actually completely right.

Maybe he does have a brain after all!

He's being serious for once. He said something I said earlier, Suarez only got 8 matches...because the IC took everything into consideration. He got off lightly.

But the Scousers have taken to this news in a very strange and misinformed way.

For them, it's a perfect storm of perceived 'enemies':

1. The press (after the Hillsborough coverage)
2. The FA (for continually favouring United, of course)
3. Manchester United itself

These elements just reinforce the 'Us against Them' mentality, to the point where, it seems, everyone's a liar or an idiot unless they agree with LFC's position. Some aspects (see '1.') of this mindset are understandable, considering what Liverpool's people have gone through in relatively recent times; however, much of the angst truthfully stems from a non-acceptance of the club's failure to match United on & off-field. We'd expect this curious behaviour from some sections of the Liverpool support, but from the club itself? The management's support of Suarez seems like an unholy mixture of standing-by their player (commendable in theory; but not, it appears, in practice) and a desperate, wrongheaded plea for future loyalty from an important asset. In all this, Liverpool has failed to see the bigger picture - that the club genuinely is bigger than any player. It appears they are willing to sacrifice integrity for short-term success; it's obviously not about 'Us versus Them' - it's all about 'Us' or rather 'Me': outdated thinking & the desperation to succeed or be sacked (yes, Kenny...) and the continual patronisation of the club's fanbase by the owners...how long before CEO Ian Ayres starts muttering about 'breakaways' and 'seperate tv deals' again?

"Who do Liverpool think they are to put one player ahead of an entire worldwide campaign to kick racism out of football"

They think they are special and everyone's against them. In reality, they are just pathetic whinging twats and I'm glad of this whole thing in a way, because it's opening everyone else's eyes to it.

Somebody made a great point earlier, would they be doing all this if it had been some bit-part player that they planned to send on loan to Leicester in January.

Some bit part player might actually be a better human being just as a world class palyer might also be a decent human being...they're not mutually exclusive.

What's at the key here is the words used by one person to another on a football field. Liverpool have turned it into a Utd/Liverpool issue when they could have held their hands up, dealt with it in dignified fashion and got on with it.

Actually they were calling Mike Phelan and one of our goalkeeping coaches unreliable, Evra didn't hear anything himself. Do keep up!

Actually they did call Evra unreliable... but only in his defence of his own actions regarding the fight.
They also confirmed that he had not made any racial allegations, and that part was, as you rightly say, entirely down to Phelan and another coach (who were also deemed unreliable).

You can see why the simple scousers are confused, the poor dears. Imagine having to get your head round all this when you've never had an education beyond how to spot whihc bins conatin the best kebab meat or how best to attack a pensioner with a sharp implement.

They've decided to make a clear divide between supporting your player, and fighting racism. It's unbelievable really, as of course you can do both. There was nothing, absolutely nothing from stopping them releasing a statement saying they would support their player through these allegations, but due to the extremities and importance of the charges made, they will hold comments until a decision has been made, and the facts have been revealed. To act in the way they have, in the sense that it is impossible for Saurez to have done anything wrong, or caused offence, despite admitting to using a word that will have racial connotations here, means they have put racism in football towards the back seat. They are more concerned with supporting their asset, and making sure everyone as well as him knows that - even though that has never been in question - then with the idea that Saurez could have said something wrong, potentially could have caused a racial incident, and could have brought the game into dispute. It's as if racism has never really entered the frame for them, with it being so ridiculous and unlikely, but the fact is their reaction to this case has belittled the campaign to fight racism itself. At no stage have they afforded the situation with the proper respect it deserves, or the potential victim of the matter. They really have lost sight of so many things here.

Completely agree. I actually could never have predicted how they've behaved after hearing the news. I know every club has their minority of idiots supporting them but the amount of Scousers (just see RAWK, Facebook, the away support at the DW Stadium last night) that are so quick to jump to Suarez's defence, is quite frankly, scary.

So does this mean Terry will get a much longer ban?

That's a criminal investigation is it not? If he's found guilty the FA have a huge task on their hands...what kind of ban could they give him? 10/12? What would be appropriate?

Absolutely spot-on as usual Steve.

Not sure you understood the point.

Would they be doing all this, the t-shirts etc if it was some third rate fringe player?

Glen Johnson has just tweeted "I will support who I want, when I want and will continue to support Luis Suarez" or something similar according to TS.

It's like mind control, but only works with racism.

You missed all the exclamation marks!!!

feck Johnson anyway, he looks like an overly butch lesbian.

For Suarez's sake, I hope Glen Johnson's defence doesn't lead to an own-goal, as per usual. ;)
