F1 2021 Season

Deserved title. He’s done it with a worse car on the final lap of the year, can’t get more epic than that.
It's a fluke he won it, nothing deserved when he was literally whining about how the FIA always helps Lewis when they just make up the rules to give him the title this year.

Can somebody explain in layman’s terms what the furore is?

The convention is usually to let all the lapped cars pass and rejoin the back of the pack. Because the time taken to do that would have left the race finishing under SC, they made the call to not let lapped cars pass. However, this left backmarkers between Lewis and Max.

Then Red Bull have presumably had a whinge and Masi has then specifically let the backmarkers in Max's way past, and not all the others - effectively gifting the title to Max because of the tyre situations.

For all the rights and wrongs the decisions this season do seem to favour manufactured entertainment rather than following the rules as the should be - for both teams.

I also really don't like hearing the teams speak to the race directors complaining about every single decision.

But I'm getting old maybe.

I don't think they made the right decision though. They made the decision that would allow that last lap showdown to happen.

For the drama yes, but for fairness no. And that's the problem with F1 and why it doesn't hold attention when they get it, there's just too much off track shite that ruins the actual sport.

Fair fecks to Max though, he's champion. I hope he becomes likeable and doesn't continue for the next 10 years being a prick like Hamilton has been.
Well, I haven't really been following F1 for years now but it definitely used to be the norm to let lapped cars through. It's more than a little odd that in the end only five were allowed, I'll give you that.

Wholeheartedly agree about the 'too much off track shite'.

Very mature reaction from Lewis in the post race interview. Doubt Max would've shown the same sportsmanship.

That was Liverpool levels of luck, the games where they are set to drop points and the goalkeeper throws the ball into the net for them in the last second

Very mature interview by Lewis. So close. Would he have guarded against Max if he'd pitted when Max pitted for the 2nd time?

So you pick pure arrogance over pure arrogance.

Okie dokie

hamilton’s interview at the end is something max would be incapable of if the roles were reversed.

FIA wanted an exciting end, not a fair end.

Stupid from Merc.
Insane from the FIA.
But great and opportunistic by Red Bull and great driving from Max. Well done to them

I hope Lewis gets his 8th though, as that’s been stolen from him (at no fault of RB may I add)

Really? Merc has got so many bullshit decisions that helped them this season as well.
No point in discussing with the Hamilton fanboys on here, more biased than EPL ones. Probably the same people tbh.

Fair play to Lewis. After that bullshit, he still shows class in front of the camera. I'd be absolutely raging in his shoes.

To those asking why Hamilton didn't pit, I think he would've been behind Verstappen if Max didn't pit. And the FIA could've gone the other way with their call at the end. Maybe the FIA wanted it to go racing to the end, but they've essentially chosen the world champion by making the calls they did.
