F1 2022 Season

Received an email at 11pm last night to say the tickets for Monza have been released. Just went onto the f1 ticket site and everything is sold out!!! That can’t be normal can it?
They fecked up with the alerts, I got mine at 6PM and they were sold out, think they went on sale Monday but no one knew about it.

They're up on the official track website but it's limited areas now.

Mercedes’ Trackside Engineering Director Andrew Shovlin says the Silver Arrows have made some positive steps before Miami as they look for solutions to the ongoing bouncing issue on their 2022-spec W13.

With Lewis Hamilton finishing the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix P13 and George Russell P4, Mercedes didn’t have the ideal weekend – but as their latest Race Debrief video shows, Imola only emphasised their tyre warm-up issues and perpetuated their porpoising problem. However, Shovlin explains that the team have found small solutions that could be implemented as soon as Miami on May 6-8.

“Being realistic, we think this will be something we approach in steps rather than one big moment where the whole thing [porpoising] vanishes, but we are seeing encouraging signs.

“We are hoping to bring parts to the car soon, maybe even Miami, where we can hopefully see progress on this issue.

“Lots of people are suffering with this problem and we know that lifting the car is a way of alleviating it. A lot of the work that is going on in Brackley has been to understand the phenomenon and whether we can actually control it, whether we can engineer it out of the car.”

Really appreciate this!! Got our tickets from the site. Did you get hold of some yourself?

Shame it wasn’t done correctly through the site, won’t trust that again!

Guess who's back

I could understand the grandstand but all the general admission too!

Flights already booked, so will wait to see if I a) find a different route to get tickets or b) see what the football fixtures are when released and see if I can get to a game

Ahh, to be honest it's one of those Grand Prix's I'd love to experience just to see the atmosphere of the Tifosi with a competitive Ferrari car. Probably up there with the atmosphere of a Superclásico.

Hopefully any upgrades they try in miami will work. Won't fix porposing entirely, but will confirm they are headed in the right direction. You really dont want Mercedes level porposing going to Monaco (after spainish gp).

Hopefully they can close that gap in Miami.
Monaco ? I did read that the Merc is maybe the fastest in corners and should do well in Monaco, maybe that was before the shit show of Imola.

Haven’t booked it yet as we’re looking at packages as well. Plenty of flights going but accommodation is bit of a struggle. Have you found somewhere to stay?

Expecting to see that thing bouncing all the way down that long straight in Miami.

Ah congrats man, I’m jealous, did Monza in 2007 and it was absolutely amazing, you’ll have such a great time.

We booked a hotel in Milan next to the central station. Just a 20 min train to Monza and there are shuttle buses between the Monza station and track (apparently) if needed.

You looking at staying in Monza? The hotels in Milan are not too expensive (for a major city and we did book about a month ago) but if accommodation is hard to come by or you struggle with packages, that is an option.

Looking forward to it. Only ever done Silverstone back in 2014 previously so was due a trip! Will be my brother’s first race too. Ferrari 1 2 please (Carlos I am looking at you!!)

Did it once back in 2003 to see Schumacher win over Montoya. It was mental two drivers on the absolute limit. Howling V10's and threaded tires, refuelling and some good old grid girls. Plus the place was absolutely rocking you will have a great time with Ferrari finally being competitive again. Enjoy this.

Worth a watch. The trackside facilities for miami gp. Monaco really isnt going to be the 'glamour' event in F1 for long now. Miami and Las Vegas will give it a run for its money.

I like to go on cycles but the pavement in many places where I live is uneven and I end up almost comically bouncing up and down on my bike. My helmet is a little lose and it repeatedly knocks of my head. I'm bouncing along like an eejit.

Now I simply pretend I'm a Ferrari. It does done wonders for my confidence.

Without fail every Monday after a race whether I’m on my bike or I’m walking, I can’t stop myself from hearing Crofty and Brundle commentate on my overtaking other people for pretty much my whole commute. I’m never late to work on those days.

Pathetic

That straight - could you imagine the bouncing

Two long straights into slow corners - expect lots of DRS overtakes.

Important for F1 to establish itself in the US market so the facilities look good, more entertainment areas than grandstands though so they’ll be milking that side of things. Interesting the big 4 teams have their own areas.

VW CEO stating it confirming Porsche and Audi deciding to enter F1.

Not sure how accurate the below is, though.

Fairly accurate I would say, I read a month back that this was likely to happen (below). McLaren bid needed some work doing but now we've got some CEO confirmation I would say it's highly likely we'll see it this transpire.

It's happened for years in Le Mans. I think a lot of the questions around this points to a lack of understanding of the VW Group and how it's made up. Porsche operate very independently from the others and the Porsche family hold a majority stake in the brand, hence why they'll enter F1 as well as another VW Group brand.

With two former VW execs on the board at McLaren we'll most likely see an Audi/McLaren tie up imo and a Porsche entry on engines with Red Bull. I can't see anyone from VW group jump in with both feet on setting up their own team.

I hope they don't remove the Mclaren name? I assume it'll be Mclaren-Volkswagen until the point they enter by themselves.

How is Guenther Steiner not everyone's favourite person in F1? The guy is pure gold.

Also, 7pm on Sunday couldn't be a more perfect time for a grand prix. I will have long since despatched the gf back to her place by then. Lovely.

you know what it means by the way it makes you feel. don’t fight it. it would be nice to see someone throw something up the insides of verstappen with gay abandon for once imo.

He said its not a fit for VW, it will be Audi and Porsche.

I would have thought McLaren was worth more than the 500m quoted above but then the car business does have some big problems. I hope the name doesn't doesn't disappear and at the same time it would be good to have Audi back as a standalone team after all these years. So really they should stay separate :)

Yeah I can't see Mclaren allowing a full take over. It'll be a partnership of some sort until they can buy themselves fully into f1 as a standalone team.

Audi have missed the boat imo. Think 2 or 3 years back mclaren bite their hand off for that, not anymore, the teams are much stronger financially, even haas and Williams.

Porsche-RB could be pretty formidable.

If you'd bet on any engine manufacturer nailing a new engine running on synthetic fuels it'd be Porsche.

Would be interesting to see if Audi got the entire Mclaren stable or whether the applied technologies part would be outside of the bid.

Also as others have stated would they run as Audi-Mclaren?

Also this couldnt happen before 2026 as Audi would have to pay the other F1 teams $25mil each (total of $250mil) to enter before 2026.

On the roadcar front the most sensible idea would be for Audi to get Mclaren to release SUV. Bentley, Lambo, Ferrari, Aston Martin all have SUVs. Even lotus have a SUV coming. As much i dislike them its a no brainer idea to have one in your stable.

Porsche joining isnt as straight forward as it seems. Some major hurdles to cross as RB think Porsche joining them would effectively give them the same rights as a completely new enterant to F1. Therefore lose the additonal powertrain, CFD, Wind Tunnel development time afforded to a new entrant over what Renault, Ferrari and Mercedes would get as a engine supplier for 2026 season.

Also questions around how VW ensure that there is a chinese wall between Porsche and Audi to ensure IP separation.

Regardless should be fascinating to see how it develops.

On a seperate note, Porsche potentially listing as a IPO on the stock market in Q3/Q4 of this year would be interesting. Will have to go to the stocks and shares thread to see if anyone can afford to buy any shares in it on this forum.
