Because Max is so so so much faster then all defending there would do is slow himself down to just be passed half a a lap later anyway. It's not Alonso being bitter, it's just smart driving.

Why are people acting like Alonso was too easy on Max? Max is literally going past him in a faster car, engine, and straight line speed + DRS. He’s literally flew past everyone on that straight including his team mate.
I'd have hoped if you had watched it for 2 decades then you'd have even a moderate understanding of race strategy but apparently not.
So this is the 1 time in Alonso's career that race strategy took precedent over track position. Got it.

Because he’s just not very good unfortunately.
You expect him to defend for 30 laps? Alonso defends that corner and it slows him down, and he will be overtaken literally half a lap later. All he would have achieved is bringing the drivers behind him closer.
Perez stopped early for me but clearly they wanted to cover Lec and Rus - good strategy work again I think. Sainz lost a little time behind other cars and has a few more laps on his tyres so Perez may come into it later.
