F1 2023 Season

Vandervoort next then monza. So the run will continue. Only chance of someone else winning will be singapore after that. After that there are still 7 GP to go. Fecking hell. Too long a boring season.

Max is so good he has to pick a fight with his engineer to get a bit of excitement in the races.

12 points, pretty happy given I had Max for pole (idiot for not realising his penalty, Max for fastest lap, and 3 suckers in the top 10 who didn’t end up there.

Horner and co were moaning when Mercedes were winning every race, but now RB is doing it, its history making, NO its fecking boring , just like it was when Mercedes was winning all the time

7 years of domination is a lot more than 2

Boringly predictable result at the front but I enjoyed the race other than that. A lot of overtaking and lots of the field were close together.

Carlos blaming Piastri despite admitting to not checking his mirrors and neglecting to mention his massive lock up

We are going to get a load of dead rubber races this season.

Not even 2 yet really. Ferrari was ahead start of 22 and neck and neck if it hadnt been for their strategy and drivers feckups. In other words we re a looooong way away from the Merc duration of domination. People forget quickly. In other words, if RB pulls a Merc then we still have a ways to go.

Must be so demoralising being Perez and seeing Verstappen creeping up on you like Jaws. There's just nothing you can do. Absolutely gutted for Piastri. Was really looking forward to seeing how his race went today. I also wanna see Albon in a good car, because i'm a big fan of his, but that Williams just isn't it.

Yeah they might have a point when Red Bull are pulling these numbers in 2026.

Yep, early 2022 Ferrari was as insane as Red Bull, they just didn't improve midseason and their team running capability is much lower than Red Bull's and Mercedes*. Too many cooks in this Ferrari kitchen & the office higher ups interfere way too much who has no idea of how to manage a racing environment.

Difference is during Mercedes domination Nico Rosberg was challenging Hamilton. After he left, Vettel challenged Hamilton for 2 seasons. There is no challenge for max which is its as dull as hamilton/bottas years without a ferrari challenge.

For those of us who are annoyed with drivers not even trying to defend against Max

I do hope that Hamilton is able to continue to race at a very high level and not tarnish his reputation.

If he gets the 8 I think he will go and do something else. Its why 2021 was such a farce, he would have left and opened the door for Max the following season anyway. There was no need to fix it.

Whatever it was I read F1 has lost 20% of its key US market already this season. 650k viewers down.
Not surprising really and probably good in a way. Many people I talk to here started watching because of Netflix and have zero knowledge of F1 before that. Sport shouldn't change just to appease entertainment seekers who at some point will move on anyway. Americans in general have a very short attention span for things that arent new. It's the reason too why Europeans always seem confused how often our restaurants and bars turn over to name another example.

Seeing those top speeds, while Red Bulls is incredible, it seems that everyone else set up their cars too much for downforce and really slow top speed. 310 is nothing on Spa with two big straights.

Pretty sure I saw Williams or Alpine near 340 too?

Good for the sport.

Would expect that to continue because D2S peaked in 2021 and the last season was even more boring and just as predictable as the racing is.

Unless they're going to take F1 to good tracks like Watkins Glen, Sebring, Road America or Road Atlanta then the US market can do one.

Yeah it doesn't tell the whole story. A lot of the other teams suffer from far worse tyre deg so they have to compromise more than RB does. Their raw speed advantage isn't normally that large and teams like Williams have indeed gone faster on the straight.

I can't believe there's still 10 races to go  it feels like watching United under Ralf. Just waiting for the season to end.

Could this potential be the worst season ever out of any sport? It's gotta be a contender.

True. I think it feels worse because the domination is so overwhelming. Not since 2004 has it been like this, and by the end of it I suspect this will be the single most dominant season in history.

If you take Max out of the equation its a greatly competitive season. People are so focused on no 1 they fail to pay attention to the rest. The one good message DtS tried to send. Was it boring when the Patriots or the Bulls won just about everything? Tiger Woods? Michael Phelps? Tyson or Ali? Etc. Domination exists in every sport, and in a way we probably won't fully appreciate it until its all well and done.

Silly examples to give considering those sports are nothing like formula one

Fantastic race weekend at the track. Didn't rain half as much as originally forecasted.

I recommend Gold 3/Eau Rouge grandstand to anyone who is considering attending.

Really well run event overall. Not much queues or anything. Much better run than the likes of Monza which is a logistical nightmare.

Austria and Belgium are my two favorite European GPs to attend for sure.

Suppose it's worse when you support another team/driver/athlete, less so when you're more of a neutral. I know the battle for Europa League isn't doing much for me when City walks the league while United are far off in third. What I will give to DTS and social media is that you can relate to a lot more drivers now. They're like characters or memes in their own these days. Can't say I knew what kind of a sense of humor Minardi and Toyata drivers had in early 2000´s, what sort of characters they were etc. I know proper old school fans may be annoyed by it but it's probably one of the reasons I still tune into every race and manage to find something interesting in it.

The US tv audience for the Miami GP alone was down 650k compared to last year so it must be more than that if it's 20% in total.

That GP is a bit of an anomoly though as it had the biggest US audience ever for a live F1 broadcast in 2022, which is understandable since there was so much hype around it. This year when it wasn't the next new shiny thing it's not that surprising that the figures dropped, although there were actually more people in attendance this year. The same thing will surely happen with Vegas as well.

Ah yes, great counter argument
So let me try then. Tiger Woods had the same equipment than other players. At his peak dominance, he did not win every tournament he started. Max‘s car is so superior that it is like having a driver that goes 450 yards.
