F1 2023 Season

Well he does have an incredibly dominant car so hardly surprising that even when the stars align for another team it's marginal.

And yeah I expect a max win.

Sure, and he knows how to drive the hell out of that dominant car. I'm just saying, it highlights how far he (and RB) are ahead, that's all.

True.

I just get the sense that others are catching up, mainly due to RB having less space to improve, so I'm not sure he's gonna speed off tomorrow. Merc looks really fast, and Lewis looks happy...perhaps Max only wins by a mere 15 seconds!

I'm just happy to see Mclaren doing well finally.
RB DRS is a major advantage and its pretty much nullified here, as there is only one zone and its not that long. Other circuits have 2/3 zones of DRS which helps as RB gain an additional 20kph or something with DRS than the rest of the grid.

Max gifted that pole to hamilton. Unlike max not to improve on his final run. Going to watch the side by side analysis of the final run.

For the first time in a long while Max' car wasn't "determined" ahead of quali, and it was evident to see. He wasn't comfortable at all.

I think it was a combination of things. New updates, limited track time in FPs due to new qually tyre rules and a circuit where the DRS isnt as important as usual.

Max said afterwards that the car wasnt dialled as it should be. He should win comfortably tomorrow as long as they both dont take each other out going into T1.

I mean, Perez finished behind Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, etc., in pretty much faultless session behind him. It's obvious they aren't that quick over one lap, but I wouldn't bet against them tomorrow.

Mercedes was a dog at almost every track in 2022 but had the fastest 1 lap pace around the Hungaroring.

It's been a dog at almost every track in 2023 but still the fastest car around the Hungaroring.

Not sure what's so surprising. Same thing will repeat at Interlagos.

Even with that, the RB should have been faster though.

Lewis had another tenth or two in that lap as well. Hopefully he can keep close to Max. If Max has some really good long run pace we still should see a good battle between Lando and Piastri and Lewis.

Good move it seems for AlphaTauri getting rid of who Nick Da Fries

Perez is no bellweather for RB performance. Hes getting sacked at end of season. Danny Ric beat Tsunoda on his first go, which doesnt bode well for him. Shame stroll's dad owns AM as stroll is so shite hes a waste of a seat.

The RB needs a few laps to get its tyres up to peak temps, its a side effect of the anti dive front end to keep the floor stable. They cant put enough heat into the fronts on a single lap, therefore ideally for them they'd have 2 prep laps before the qually lap, but that wasnt possible in qually.

Fractionally maybe, they have so much advantage they set up for the race at the expense of qualifying everywhere, obviously didnt feel the need to make an exception here.

Spa next week will be a great test on how well the cars are doing. I love the track but Red Bull cleaned up there last year, it's a big track that can stretch out the field if they're not up to standard.

Last week, at a closed test at silverstone. Mick schmacher and lando tested these tyre spray devices.

The first few laps will be very interesting. The RB tends to warm its tyres up more slowly than the cars around it, and Max will be on the dirty side of the track.

It’s not entirely impossible that Norris gets past Max and he has to defend against Piastri for the first couple of laps.

The RB with DRS vs the Merc is probably an easy overtake, but it should have more trouble against McClaren.

It’s all moot, as the RB is so much better with tyre wear and at pit stops that Max will have all of the options available to him

Think you're right. Especially on this track. It evolved so much during qualifying and with Hamilton and Norris being in the racing line you'd expect there to be much more grip on that side especially if it hasn't rained (has it?). We'll see if that is the case but it wouldnt surprise me to see Max losing a spot or two at the start.

Verstappen’s starts have been the weakest part of his game in recent races, so I’m hopeful it’ll make the first 3 laps interesting until DRS makes the Red Bull victory a foregone conclusion.

Last time out I thought Piastri drove better than Norris considering the cars weren’t the same. Not sure if he now has the same updates as Norris on his McLaren but there’s a great chance of a first podium for Piastri today.

This is the track where Button broke his duck and won his first race, same with Ocon.... I wouldn't rule out a McLaren win if they split strat.. one of them holds up Max for instance.
