Loan deal to QPR now confirmed.

I hope we have a clause to recall him in case QPR decide not to play him (like they did with Kiko).

Good move to remain in the PL and gain some experience here rather than go abroad. Hopefully he'll return a better player and can challenge for the LB position.

Article on QPR site:

Highly-rated Manchester United defender Fabio da Silva has put pen to paper on a season-long loan deal at Loftus Road.

The talented Brazilian, who has made 53 First Team appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils, has agreed a deal until the end of the 2012/13 season.

Fabio will link up with his new QPR team-mates at pre-season training on Monday, ironically the day when he celebrates his 22nd birthday.

A delighted Mark Hughes told www.qpr.co.uk: "It's a great opportunity for us to loan a good, young player, who has decent experience of playing for a top Club like Manchester United.

"He's played a lot of senior games for United, so it shows the quality he's got.

"I know they think very highly of him and we believe he has all the attributes to be a success here next season."

Hughes believes da Silva's versatility will give him far greater defensive options next season, adding: "First and foremost, he's a good defender. He's got great enthusiasm as well, and just like his brother, he's a top professional.

"We can give him the games he's craving at this stage of his career, so it benefits everybody.

"He's very versatile - he can play left or right-back and he's also been utilised in midfield by Sir Alex (Ferguson) in the past, so we know what we're getting, and that's a very good player."

Fabio, who just missed out on a place in the Brazilian squad for this summer's Olympics, said: "I'm so happy to be here.

"This loan is so important for me in terms of my career. I want to play as many games as possible here. I want to play well and win games as well.

"It's a good move for my career and for my confidence.

"Sir Alex Ferguson said that I'd enjoy it here and told me to play as many games as I can."

He added: "I know that QPR is a Club with great history. I read about the history and that's why I'm here.

"I also came here because I'm ambitious. I want to help QPR progress up the Premier League.

"Hopefully the fans will enjoy watching me in action, because I'll do my best."

He'll be played otherwise the deal wouldn't have been agreed. The reason why Kiko wasn't played was because he was signed for QPR before Warnock was sacked. Hughes was under no obligation to play him and the signings he made showed that he had little intention of playing him. He still gave Macheda a game or two but he didn't impress.

Fabio will play quite a bit....

Left back/Right back/midfield - league + FA Cup + CC = 30 appearances all up.

That would make it a pretty successful loan.

Talent has never been his issue, its his frail body.

If the lad can stay fit hes got all the chance in the world.

Whats the betting he gets injured early and cant stay in the team

The number of games he'll possibly play is one thing but how he'll perform in them will this loan successful or not.

I've always had a sneaking suspicion that Fabio was the more talented of the two but Rafael developed quicker than him due to having an easier route to the first team.

This loan could be the making of him.

If fit, and I realize that's a big if with him...he will without doubt perform in his loan spell.

He had a tough time last season, but don't forget, he forced himself into a starting position in the CL final against Barca, a little over a year ago...and didn't exactly disgrace himself.

When he plays, he almost never lets himself or the team down with his performance.

I think this is a great move for him. Playing in the PL is important. Better than a foreign club.

Hopefully this loan deal will toughen him up and give him the experience he needs to break into the team when he returns. With Patrice Evra not getting any younger the left back spot is his for the taking as long as he shows improvement and impresses at QPR.

I didn't think they unveiled loan signings like this, and have QPR got two shirt sponsors?
Yes, they are sponsored by both Air and Asia.

Why QPR though? After Macheda, Mark Hughes and folding on the closing day makes me wish we'd sent him to Norwich or Wigan or somewhere.. guess he'd prefer London though.

Not sure if he'll enjoy playing with Taarabt if used on the left. Not like he'll get any protection

Surely would have gotten many more appearances if Evra wasn't such a large presence "in the locker room".

Here's hoping he's absolutely fantastic for them.

Absolutely. I've still got high hopes for Fabio. All this chatter about Baines...I still remember Fabio's debut against Spurs. The lad's got it just needs the games.

Yep. Wouldn't be surprised if SAF has had a little talk with him along those lines. AKA "Be patient; your brother's just been a bit more lucky than you squad-renewal-timing-wise."

This seems like a crap idea for so many reasons, hope I'm wrong.

Taiwo, Young and Onuoha are starters ahead of loan-signing Fabio. With QPR's awful record in cups, I can't see him playing much.

I'd rather he stayed here and started more games.

Also, we don't really have another left-back after Patrice.

Taiwo was on loan which has expired and Young is in his 30s. He'll have plenty of opportunities otherwise we wouldn't have agreed to send him there.

This surely means a new defender or fryers getting promoted.

I remember when we signed the two of them, Fabio was apparently a set piece specialist.

Obviously he's been well down the queue here, but I wonder if he'll have more chance at them at QPR.

He might play on the left side of midfield.

Agree w/ thegregster - surely we can't be heading into the season with Johnny Evans as our only backup left back? Obviously he had a good season in the middle, but he is terrible as a left back.

Essentially we'd have no cover for an Evra injury. Seems a massive squad management fail waiting to happen.

Fabio is certainly only behind Rafael because of his injury record. If he stays fit , he will start many games for QPR.

Good deal for QPR too, this.

I really wish you're right.SAF knows best obviously but part of me wanted him to stay at OT and really challenge Evra.A guy who played in the CL against Barca should be playing in a much better than club than QPR.

He'll have to wrestle the ball off Barton and Taraabt first.

Well, just Taraabt, Barton will probably be suspended.

Was one of our better players in that match.

Glad to see him on loan to get games, just not if it means were wasting money on Baines.

I must admit I'd have prefered for him to be given plenty of games with us this season, but given the talk of him going to Portugal on-loan I'm quite relieved that he's actually continuing his development in the Prem. Also, I'm not really worried that he won't get games for them - could SAF even contemplate sending him there without assurances from Hughes that the boy will play?

Anyone know if there's a call-back option?

Still not sure this is the best option but if we're determined to continue putting so much trust in Evra, then he really needs this extra game time. Judging by the way QPR play he's likely to see a lot of action at both ends of the pitch. They had better utilise him properly and i'm sure they'll be pleasantly surprised.
