Falklands

As are the Brits who colonised Ireland, India and numerous other countries, which have all been restored (at least partially) to their rightful owners. Your point?

That there was no rightful owners of the Falklands. No one lived there, they were empty. Spain claimed one island, Britain claimed the others we fought Britain more then not won. Argentina was created and Spain decided that the islands should go to them even though Spain didn't have ownership at the time. The only time any Argentineans were living there, it was being used as a base for piracy and the yanks went in and cleared them out. So tell me, who do they belong to if not the most indigenous people that have lived on them, who currently ocupy them.

shut the feck up all of you

you have been colonized by the mighty argentinians!!!

you will only speak when i say so!

are we clear?

Am I going to have to post a picture of a British soldier with a union flag in the Falklands again!!??

So what has the reaction in Buenos Aires been? I imagine there are a few in government frothing at the mouth right now.

They don't belong to Britain by dint of landing a few hundred people 8,000 miles from home. By that token a lot of other colonised lands say in Africa would too, but since it's a ludicrous argument they don't.

no one is taking nothing of this too serious

but the british claim of argentina being a colonialist state has put a shy smile in our faces :smirk:

That flag will be out of date when Scotland's independent though.

Actually half the Falklands should be Scottish, maybe even more considering what the Scots guards did.

How the feck are you going to sort that one out?

They don't belong to us, they belong to themselves, we just protect them. Argentina then shouldn't exist by your argument as it didn't exist until the Spanish colonised and claimed it.

We're letting Scotland have Northern Island.....

It is quite an interesting tactic, normally Argentina comes out with such a phrase then we go on the defensive, six months go by quietly and then it repeats. I'd like to see how Argentina would defend their claim as opposed to breaking ours down.

Argentina's Interior Minister Florencio Randazzo"The truth is it is completely offensive, especially coming from Great Britain whose history clearly shows its attitude to the world. We hope the UN resolution which is recognised by most countries in the world will be respected and Great Britain will sit down and discuss the sovereignty of Argentina (over the Falkland Islands) for which to us there is nothing to discuss, the Malvinas belong to Argentina,"

Speaking on behalf of Lancashire I would like to secede and join Argentina instead.

The girls have much nicer skin. They're hairier but I don't mind that meself, and there are products to deal with it if necessary.

i'd like to see that too

as always, i think is a smoke screen of our goverment, trying to hide more serius issues

but sincerely, couldnt care less about those islands

I found your 'joke' to be insensitive.

I'm pushing for a ban.

I had to explain sovereignty to you in the SOPA thread earlier but it doesn't appear to have gotten through, it was a joke but there is nothing insensitive about British sovereignty over the Falklands - it is a fact, sovereignty means we control them which manifests itself in British soldiers flying the flag.

They also have a better polo team than we do.

Though this time it comes from London, though it could be said we want to remove the argument as it has become nauseatingly boring.

Cameron clearly thinks he's at a Bullingdon club meeting. Haw, haw let's dress up in Nazi uniforms for our next jolly wheeze..

Whilst the labour party leadership and the unions arguing with each other make them both look like pillars of sanity...

Well, you're screwed, Brian GB Team. The mods aren't very sympathetic.

I'll try to argue your case... I'll say you were drunk or something.

But less of the 'jokes'. They're not funny and don't befit a person with such a fantastic sense of humour such as yourself, Mr GB Team.

I see the Argentine Foreign Secretary said that Britain was a synonym for colonialism, that was nice of him but it isn't really academic.

I love reading the comments on the Daily Mail site, they always find a way to add 'we want a referendum on the EU' to the discussion and give themselves brownie points for it.

Should everyone in the USA that isn't an Indian leave and give them back control?

He's under the idea that Britain went and colonised an inhabited island and stole it from some local people.

This is an honest question, and I have really no clue as to the answer, but you should....

How did you get that bottom bit? Shouldn't it belong to Chile? And who drew the straight line?

According to wikipedia both countries claimed the whole island but in 1881 they both signed a treaty splitting it down the middle. Gold may have had something to do with it.
