Puskas has played 6 world cup matches?
Might want to post this as well:

The bolded number means the amount of goals scored. Puskás played for both Hungary (1954) and Spain (1962).
Hungary

57 1 68 20/ 6/54 Basel West Germany 8-3 World Cup
58 1 69 4/ 7/54 Bern West Germany 2-3 World Cup

3 0 3/ 6/62 Viña del Mar Mexico 1-0 World Cup
4 0 6/ 6/62 Viña del Mar Brazil 1-2 World Cup
Cmon, Balu. Pick someone from the mighty magyars.
Tito, just in case before it is relevant, you are aware Baresi is a WC winner, right?
Having a good convo with pippa, will post his thoughts here as well to fuel further discussions
You picked the highest WC scorer in a single tourno so I see where Pippa is coming from. It's not just about goal stats though but combined play. I can see the case with Platini, mind, his very best was at the Euros, not the WC. Zidane is a better pick IMO, even if his Euro 2000 is probably his best tourno performance.

I will take Falcao.
I will take Falcao.
No, thought he was a non winner since he didn't play a game in '82?

I thought about Falcao, but also hoped he might slip through. Ffs, this is a nightmare with Anto right after/before me.
Pol said a players first appearance. Baresi first appeared in Italia 90.
Balls, I was hoping he would last the turn. No one ever seems to rate him highly enough during games.
Mean midfield. Very much what I would have gone for if available. If Puskas weren't around I would have gone Neeskens-Falcao.
As much as Platini's pinnacle was '84 (like Zidane's in '00), I don't think his performances in '78, '82 and '86 were any worse than what Zidane did in '98, '02 and '06. Even playing on one leg in Mexico he still had an almost unparalleled range of passing and control of affairs, while his Spanish tourney was a strong effort.
Tends to happen a lot doesn't it? Someone takes Matthaus, hence prompting someone else to take another wonderful all round midfielder in Neeskens, which leads to panic that Falcao won't last!
Funny that in some of the drafts with arguably smaller pools of picks, we hardly seem take each other's picks (not just me and you, a lot of people ended up with the team they realistically thought possible in the last draft or two), yet in the huge all time pool we always overlap!
I missed this
Happy to assist a team though.
You missed a massive massive opportunity to combine Fontaine with the man who made him the top goal scorer, crappy. Would have been an indisputable combo.

Agreed. I take it you are not going for him though, in which case he may well be safe.
You really should tone down the dead giveaways, someone will really kick up a fuss sooner or later.![]()
That was not related to being a winner but pre-post 1970. I even asked him about players whose first appearance was for one country (defines continent) but won it with another. He never answered but I think it's pretty obvious the rule applies to continent there, not having won it.
It's no biggie though, he is right up there with the very best anyway but I thought it was worth pointing out before it could get you tied up in knots at the end of the draft.
Me and KM pick Maradona.
Aka give us a minute.
I will take Falcao.
I doubt the winner-non winner constraint will be a big concern for anyone, or maybe I haven't thought it through!
