FC Basel Vs Manchester United

What did that flag say about Liverpool?

I'm a bit superstitious, I bought a United blue and black away kit this summer and I've worn it 3 times.
First time I crashed my car.
Second time we lost 6.1 to City.
Third time we lost 2.1 to Palace.

I was going to wear it tonight, but I can't risk it.
Wearing my Red "Jones 4" shirt instead.

I predict a 3-2 win, after initially going a goal up before going 2-1 down.

I'd like a performance and a nice clean sheet victory though.

Anyone got a good homepage to visit? Danish TV apparently insist on showing both game simultaniously and are starting with City mainly ffs. fecking pointless bastards, City vs a Bayern B team which isn't even the game deciding if City goes through rather than a game that undoubtedly will be far more intense!

What I meant was that Im sure Fergie would have preferred having Carrick available and rather bring on Giggs if we really need goals at a later stage in the game. We dont need to win this game, and Giggs offers a lot less defensive cover than Carrick.

Giggs would've started anyways, probably further up the pitch behind Rooney though. Obviously Carrick and Jones is a more defensive partnership but Giggs puts in a shift, so much that he's able to play against the best of teams only being partnered by Carrick. If Jones can stay disciplined there shouldn't be a problem.

He's not wasteful at all when he's playing as a central midfielder in a 2, it's when he plays on the wing or just behind the striker when he can be accused of it. Thats only because he then has more responsibility to create rather than to boss the midfield.

Giggs is still probably our best midfielder alongside Carrick, I don't get why people are complaining?

Im not complaining. Best team we could have fielded considering Carrick is suspended. Giggs is a bit wasteful because of trying difficult through balls a lot of the time. I dont mind it, but we need some defensive stability to balance that when he is on the pitch. Which is why Park is a great inclusion.

More than losing tonight the bigger embarrassment will be playing in the Europa league.

:nono:

The biggest embarrassment would be losing in Europa to some team none of us have heard of...

throw it feckin out dude

Will be more like 4-1-3-2, or 4-1-4-1 imo, depending on how deep Rooney decides to stay. Just formation nitpicking really. It will be some version of 4-5-1, but Giggs will be too offensive to say its 2 deep lying midfielders

Might be. Though we seem to prefer a pacey forward whenever playing in the 4-2-3-1 formation, and I feel that we'll get more out of Rooney both defensively and in terms of creativity if he's allowed to drop deep in an European away-game. Anyways, all of our front 6 are versatile players so I'm sure that we'll see lots of interchanging.

SAF would have had Giggs playing regardless of Carrick being available. Either Park or Jones would have dropped down to bench. Giggs is still our best mid-fielder.

Would probably have started instead of Young, yea. But I was talking about Giggs in a deeper central role. I think we agree.

That pitch looks horrid.

EDIT - Carrick not starting, can see him playing an important role in the second half.

ah young could have done better there

Carrick has played in our last 18 CL away games. I doubt tonight would have been a change in that were it not forced.
