FC Basel Vs Manchester United

Fergie has been through this before. Be interesting what he has to say. But honestly, we don't have the squad in terms of experience right at the moment. Good lesson for all really. Europa? Well..play weaker team...give them experience...concentrate on going for the FA cup and league...although I have to say..city look fecking good at the moment

Pathetic, we had about 20 seconds of football in extra time.

No. The pathetic thing was us needing the extra time and us moaning about extra time.

This was a team who was being managed by a caretaking manager. A team that outclassed our own. And a team whose tactics were better than what Fergie's were.

That's pathetic. F*ck seconds.

Where was Fletcher and Valencia??!! Jesus Christ OK Jones has been a revelation but still he shouldn't be counted for a game like this where it's high risk vs. small reward..

how long will fergie keep apologizing to the fans - it is very clear we need to strengthen our midfield and we have not had decent money made available from the glazers to compete to buy top players - where is the ronaldo money? the glazers should be apologizing to the fans... how long will fergie keep defending the glazers - the truth is - theres no money available..

Oh just shut the feck up about De Gea ITV. He isn't the one who's hardly scored in 8 games.

SAF better have something to say. I want to know what he thinks. It would be a bit childish to refuse to comment, it's important to be a good loser.

Would be great to get a second apology in a week..

actually no, I'd rather he sorted out the fecking midfield like everyone knows he should have.

In all honesty we should've tried more to keep hold of VDS.

feck you whoever you were when some of us mentioned after the benefica result that this as a possibility. It's just the way we've been playing lately. Was always on the cards.

Rooney missed a sitter from the 6 yard box, maybe could have been a different match had that went in.

Sorry, I meant to say in the 2nd half... when the chips were down/everything to play for etc.

I suppose again there was Rooney's one on one, but it was a poor angle.

The shittiest performance Ive ever seen from United considering what was at stake. Disgraceful. Im not normally one for knee-jerking, but Young has been shocking this season. No drive, no commitment. Park was out of his depth. Rooney had a mare and looked like he couldn't be bothered. Overall a shocking performance and attitude. Even Evra didnt care to help out offensively on the left side in the second half.

Are people seriously blaming De Gea over the collection of shit in front of him tonight?

I wonder if it will sink in when they don't get their CL wage bonuses?

Oh and Shaqiri would be a perfect fit for Liverpool the little cnut.

Going to sound incredibly bitter, but how do you stop play for 1:01 in injury time to book a player and allow a substitution then only add :23 on top of the 3 minutes?

Other than that,

Vidic is a catastrophic loss. Absolute best case scenario, he's only done his MCL rather than his ACL and could be back by mid-February. Likely done through the season and pre-season, though.

Park isn't good enough. For any purpose other than packing the midfield and man-marking someone. Time to move him on as we did with O'Shea and Brown. A good performance from him these days still isn't good enough for a team like United. Unbelievable he stayed on as long as he did without offering anything.

We have to improve in midfield. If we can't stay healthy, our average-above average midfield is essentially a far below average one. Tonight's swung me round to the 'buy a midfielder' group. I don't think there's a team in the top half of the table that would trade their midfield for the one we started tonight... in a must-win Champions League game. That speaks volumes.

De Gea had a couple of mishaps but was nowhere near the scapegoat he's going to be made out to be.

Rooney's painfully off form as is Ashley Young.

This team needs a leader.

Rooney missed a sitter from the 6 yard box, maybe could have been a different match had that went in.

He does that a fair bit. Hernandez on the other hand doesn't. All those people who were saying Chico shouldn't play cos he doesn't offer enough to the build up do you now see why Sir Alex insists on playing him when he's fit?

We've been appalling in the final third the last 10 games or so. It's hard to take bet we'll bounce back.

Would he have made it easier for us to create more than one or two decent opportunities to score from then?

No, but I think having an experienced player such as VDS would've made a massive difference to our campaign. He was an immense player.

So this is what it feels like to be a liverpool fan......Thursday nights. Channel 5......

i bet US$100 with a friend of mine that we would lose 2-1... damn i won!

"We played well! Deserved to in it!,but were unlucky"! blah blah!

Park playing 80 minutes of a game we need to score in is baffling. His only purpose was to serve to break up our attacking moves. Too slow and lacking in any ideas. Leaving ourselves having to select a defender alongside a winger in central midfield also hindered us badly. Jones was a passenger. That aside we were unlucky on the night but reaped what we sowed in the previous games. Arrogance cost us.

nothing to do with the goalie Spoons.

this was always on the cards when we failed to replace Scholes.

Heck playing Rooney in midfield at times?

The title is what matters and we should concentrate all our efforts there.

Well, I'm sure he would've dealt with the cross that lead to their goal...but I wasn't blaming him for today's loss. As I said above, VDS was the best keeper in the world, naturally losing such an experienced player would weaken any side.

Fergie was wrong to sign Ashley Young. A woefully average player.

Macheda is a pointless player and has no place at the club. I prefer to play with 10 men than to send this technically inept player on.

We have been there and we will come back again. Luck really isnt with us until now this season. Nevertheless glad to witness this great decade of our club. We ll never die

he did not want to play on...simple.

we are looking at the wrong area...the problem has been in midfield for some years now...even when Scholes was there...but not able to play every game.

and the other thread blaming Rooney....he has been pulled all over the place having to make up for the lack of creativity in midfield...and thus getting frustrated.

How good were we early in the season?

we cannot depend on a young player like Cleverley all the time.

We will get this sorted in the summer.

For now we need to focus on winning teh Prem.

Well that's embarrassing...........In truth we didn't play badly tonight and while you'll find no stronger advocate for buying in midfield than me, it really wasn't the problem tonight, neither was the crappy defending from Smalling and Evans on their second goal, we had 2 good chances fall to Rooney tonight and he fluffed them both, he doesn't look like he can hit a cows arse with a banjo right now.

Botton line is 5 points from 3 games at Old Trafford is the story behind our CL failure this season.

I dared to believe when Jones scored :(

Heh! me too. :D

He was double minded and was willing to stay on...but Fergie'd already bought the Spanish kid.
