Bad refereeing, poor midfield performance...Ruud's first touch was poor..
the defence tried but under pressure for far too long.

Agreed - I dunno if I'm in the minority here, but I actually thought Wes had improved tonight.

Maybe if your skipper hadnt stamped on the keeper, he wouldnt have been red carded.

Keane stamps on the keeper - and Porto are the cheats???

Radio said he tried to pull out and barely made contact.

In any case, Porto are cheats not because of this particular incident, but because they spend about 85 minutes or so of every match throwing themselves aroung trying to get calls.

I'm soo pissed just watching the delayed game and that was the most gutless performance I have seen from this team in a long time. Wheres the passion, drive, determination gone????. People have been talking about the defence all season, but this game just showed us that our midfield is SERIOUSLY lacking something!!. If we can at least get to the quarters I would be happy.

Get a bit of perspective on this - yes we lost 2-1 & played pretty crap but we got an away goal - I'd rather loose 2-1 than 1-0 for example. I'd like to see Scholes in the middle & he can do that with Butt with Ronnie or Ole on the right. Porto can/will fall apart at OT they are not good travellers and anyway if we dont do it at OT we dont deserve it - have some faith boys & ignore the Arse & Scouse twats on the forum - they can feck things up to

Dont know about you guys but someone else needs to start this thread we are 0-1-1 when ARVANI starts it so how about it stone rose or Jacqueline. we need all the help we can get

hello lads...

Guys, you will not believe that i wanted Manchester to win.. after this statement. (i truly support Manchester today).

1 - for all radio listeners, Porto were not that divers today. you are TOTALY wrong. I saw the game.
2 - Fortune should been sent of much early.
3 - I think Manchester made 4 or 5 shots in first half and 1 in second.
4 - Porto made 20 and more all match. With unbelievables failures. If they had Derlei or Nistelrooy... :nervous:
5 - I didn't see Manchester all the game. Totaly but totaly off.
6 - Porto controled the game completly.
7 - Manchester didn't got defence.
8 - Porto didn't had wingers and also his principal defensive midfielder.
9 - Keane was well sent of.. lost his head. with that age at this stage. lack of concentration and nervous.
10 - Porto had his full defense.
11 - Manchester had his full attack.
12 - Like i said.... Baía is shit. he can't punch a low ball forward. Howard for sure wouldn't make that. good setpiece but... half lucky on the goal.

my conclusion is.... football is football. everything can happen.
BUT..... i really don't know guys. probably Baía will eat other like that again on OT  ......... but..... I don't know if Porto will not score either. with Maciel, Costinha.... lets see.

Hope Manchester fix the defense.. and get better on midfield.
Because today... defense haven't failed to much. The total control of Porto... started on the midfield!

lets see what you my friends say about this statement. ;)

are you saying that when Arvani starts threads we won't have good results but when the others do, then we're good?

Just being superstitous I dont mean anything bad toward ARVANI just a change of pace thats all

bouche hind sight is 20 20. no one saw micky going down. wes will get healthier and better each match. think about this lets say ruud got the knock mickey got nowt season ending but a knock. we'd have forlan and forlan. and some more forlan. that just made me the :nervous:

but fergies got 3 ctr mids on in midf - last few matchs - ffs play roni he can do it. and from what i got from the radio MUFC defended all day. that under those circumstances 2 goals was fair. i don't think MUFC scare anyone going forward - yep a 4 goal match at everton but that's a rare occurence. and what is w/ the 2nd halves of these matchs? we come out flat as hell.

6 - second half only... and much better also in first
7 - when i said this, i wasn't talking about the defense performance... but rio, silvestre etc etc...
8 - you had full options for the game on the midfield.. porto hasn't. if you played shit today... imagine next game... :wenger: of course you play home ;)
12 - i didn't blame howard for nothing. the header was perfect. a great goal. howard isn't at all the guy responsable. give some credit to the forward.

what means "wind up"
:)

All things considered, I think we got off lightly with a 2-1 defeat.

Time to face some facts I think.

We are NOT the team we were 12 months ago.

The team has changed drastically since Beckham left.

This season is one of change and considering the changes that have been made I think we are doing pretty well to be where we are today.

It IS frustrating as a Man Utd supporter to see us out-gunned pretty much all over the pitch but I have faith that the players Fergie has brought in can do the business over the longer term.

We haven't had much luck with our defence this season. Micky and Rio were like a rock when played together at the start of the season... we had neither tonight.

I don't think we'll win anything this year, Arsenal are the best TEAM in England at the moment.

I think we'll turn this one around against Porto and reach the Q/F (yet again) but whereas in previous seasons we had every chance of progressing and winning the CL, I cannot see one single positive point to suggest we are capable of doing it this year.

For every plus in our favour, there is a plus and another plus in favour teams such as Arsenal and Real Madrid.

6- 'coz you said 'controlled completely', completely in the second half, not really in the first half
7- agree now - no rio is a big mess
8- I don't agree with the line up for today anyway, with lots of options, that's a good thing, but it can be a bad thing 'coz you won't know who's ready for the game and who's not, unstable performance's in count...
12- i agree , the header's a brilliant one, but... i just can't imagine's it's another header we've conceded...

this was his lifetime performance. Such a goals you score only once...

a point - not complaining about your comment -
i think it's time for the team to change, if beckham's still in the squad, that's a good thing, BUT, how about 5 years later.
It's time for some newbies to get involve, and I think Fergie should've let Ronaldo in the first team today, i just don't know why he's on the bench!
i believe fergie knows what he gotta do in order to win in the return leg...

8 - if the manager don't know who is better for the game... sack him. is my only and reasonable option.
12 - Manchester can't suffer goals from headers? that's not a wise observacion. Manchester isn't exactly the best defence in the world. and Benni is not so lower as you imagine. no chance on this one.

you are wrong... benni isn't the best striker in the world. But i told you guys... he have a nice shot. and score good goals. of course he needs 50 ocasions. but he scores real nice1's.

So, who's fault was it tonigh? SAF,the defence, the midfield, the strikers, Keano. :D

8- um..the 'sack houllier' thing is here again...
well.. of 'coz the manager knows who's he gotta pick in the squad, but don't you think that a player won't be able to have a constant performance all the time, see what i mean? you never know who's on the revenge for Keano in the return leg :p (j/k)
12 - that's not what i mean, I didn't rule out Benni as a great player ...i just can't understand 2 straight games - 3 headers conceded :smirk:

I think next season will be the season for Ronaldo... I would love him to play every game too but I think Fergie's handling him well.

I was not suggesting anything about Beckham, I'm glad we sold him, he was no longer committed to Man Utd in the same way he was a few seasons ago.

But, having got rid of him, Fergie has had to make some major changes to the way the midfield operates.

One of his solutions was an 18 year old lad from Portugal.

I just think that he thinks Ronaldo hasn't got the maturity to cope with these games at the moment.

The defence was make-shift so he opted for an experienced midfield to offer some protection. It's very rare he plays Butt AND Keane together but tonight he thought it was the best option.

I suppose this is why Footie is such an intriguing sport... we could go through it all again but this time play Ronaldo and leave Saha on the bench... and lose 4-1 or win 2-1...

sigh!

Fellas. We dont deserve to be in the next round. Next season cant came fast enough for me.

And I do think either Gazza or stoned.rose should start the Fulham match thread. Arvani please dont start it.
Mods please delete it if he starts it ;)
