FC Porto vs Manchester United

Anderson to score.

It's written in the script.

The postive way to look at this is.. We're forced to play a more attack minded player. We have to win (or draw 3-3 lol). We might as well go all guns blazing and try to overwhelm Porto, our players should be able to cope with the atmosphere. However, I do think we'll miss Fletcher in this game, but mainly in the first 20 minutes unless we get an early lead.

I think someone posted this on the previous page and I liked the look of it:

Van der Sar
O'Shea - Ferdinand - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Anderson
Ronaldo - Giggs - Rooney
Berbatov
--
Subs: Foster; Rafael, Neville/Evans; Scholes, Park; Tévez, Macheda

Although, I wouldn't mind seeing Park start on the left, with Rooney through the middle and Berbatov on the bench.

All guns blazing, go for it.

For Anderson, getting a shot on target is worthy of a celebration.

But scoring an actual GOAL in a match of football. Too much to ask of the lad imo.

TBH last season i would have agreed with you because of how deep he played but this season hes actually got forward a lot more and in a few games hes actually had a few good attempts to score but for wayward shooting...

Good news for us?
Ferreira hit with ban

Porto boss can't contact players against Man Utd

Porto boss Jesualdo Ferreira will not take charge of team affairs against Manchester United on Wednesday.
He has been banned by Uefa and is forbidden from contacting his players before or during the match, or from taking his place on the touchline.
The suspension relates to a gesture he made toward the referee when a Porto goal was disallowed during the European clash with Atletico Madrid on 24th February.
Porto appealed against an initial two-match ban and Ferreira was allowed to perform his duties last Tuesday when Porto earned a 2-2 draw in the first leg of their quarter-final tie at Old Trafford.
Uefa's appeals body has now reduced that sentence to a one-match touchline ban and deferred the second match suspension.

Suppoes its not bad news except if they do a lets win it for the manager.

All out attack. Lets intimidate these feckers with a lineup that would scare the shit out of them without their manager there.

VDS
Oshea Rio Vidic Evra
Anderson Carrick
- Giggs
Ronaldo Tevez Rooney

Bench
Berbs
Mecheda
Scholes

Im debating whether Tevez should start over Berbatov. Berbs' height would be an asset but he never goes into the box anyway so Tevez it is. This lineup is deadly and bench has some creative and inspirational options. Could you imagine if Anderson scored? I really hope he features.

There's been a few times this season where I believed he'd score. I believe there was one match where he would have scored but he was totally unselfish in his play and he squared the ball to Tevez who stuck the ball in the net. If Anderson had taken it on himself, he would have had his first goal for us. He's had a few chances this season, more so than I can remember from his first season. There was a match also (possibly the CC final) where he drove at Spurs, went past 3-4 players and it took a foul right outside their area to stop him. I actually thought he'd have done it only for him getting taken out.

I wonder if SAF will play Rafael tomorrow? He has been back in training on this specific programme for a couple of weeks and JOS has looked knackered for weeks and fresh legs in the full back positions would be a big plus with Evra finally getting a week's rest.

Other than, with Fletcher out I'd expect Anderson to start with Carrick, and Rooney, Ronaldo, Giggs and Berbatov to be the front four.

Also in the World Club Cup when he had a free header, cant remember if he missed the ball or just misheaded it

I would love to see Rafael as i feel it's better to have a full timefull back then a make shift in O'Shea but with that thinking if O'Shea it will be Nev as he is a full time full back player. Nothing against O'Shea he has done great for us but he can't play half a season in a place he is not accustomed to.

My conclusion is if Fergie goes for a full time right back he will go with Nev... bur you never know with Fergie

Ferguson confirms Rio will face Porto

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed he expects Rio Ferdinand to start Manchester United's Champions League quarter-final against Porto on Wednesday.
Ferdinand has missed United's last three games after picking up a groin injury at the end of England's World Cup qualifying win over the Ukraine at Wembley on April 1.
"We think Rio is fit," said Ferguson. "He trained on Friday, Saturday and Sunday and he will start."
The holders are looking to reach the last four for the third consecutive season by becoming the first English team to beat Porto on their own ground after last week's 2-2 draw at Old Trafford.
United have not kept a clean sheet in five games but the return of Ferdinand alongside Nemanja Vidic should bring some much-needed stability to their back four.
"There is a lot of quality in Rio's game, so he is obviously going to make a difference," said Ferguson.
"Also it gets us back the partnership between Rio and Nemanja Vidic, which has been the cornerstone of our great defensive performances this season.
"That is the difference he will make."

Your line-up makes some sense. When Giggs goes wide, Tevez can track back into midfield to help out, giving us some of the workrate that Park normally contributes. If Berbatov is chosen over Tevez then we'd have rather too many players with a tendency to stand around with their hands on their hips, having just conceded possession.

Rafael only started training again last Tuesday but he seems very fit naturally but I doubt he will start

I can't wait for tomorrow's game after having watched Chelsea - Liverpool.
Going to be some nerve wrecking hours up until and under the match.

I'm not as nervous as most.

If I was asked who I thought would win out of United or Porto in a one off game, I'd say United every time.

I think some people are falling for the 'no British side has ever won in Porto' media bullshit.

"18:33 Did I really just see that? Anderson has scored a brilliant overhead kick in training! He's still looking for his first United goal and Wednesday night would be the perfect occasion to open his account."

Very true in a one off game i would back us, but there are so many factors that we have to factor in - away goals, our form, injuries... I reckon if theres a team that can do it today its us but what i fear is a early goal then our lads sitting back...

We can look at it anyway we want but complacency has got into the side and the quicker we get that out of our system the better it will be on my heart!

I like this.

Anderson to score the winner

Is Rooney one booking away from a suspension?
