Will cost us the league title,he seems very pig headed in his use of certain players, why on earth he left berbatov and evra out last weekend is beyond me,,,,very strange.

They are at times baffling, but at the end of the day he's been in the business long enough to have earned our trust.

Whats to say Evra and Berbatov had looked really poor all week in training or were carrying minor knocks. He'll also be trying to keep as many of his squad sharp so that they can be called upon when necessary.

With the international break, which Evra and Berbatov will benefit from it was a surprise they didnt start, but we can only take the managers word for it that the 11 he put out were the best men for the job

According to you, he has no common sense.

No according to me he overpaid for Bebe. Whether Bebe goes on to perform to a level that makes SAF's gamble on him look peanuts is anyone's guess.

If anybody responds to this and turns the thread into another Bebe/value debate, don't blame me. I'm just defending myself from more brickbats from people referring to something completely off topic.

But we know they weren't the best men for the job. He left out the best left back in the world, and our our best striker this season.

Fergies selections and constant rotation will stop this team from reaching it's full potential, theres just no consistency there. Sadly, hes been fecking around too much with the team the last few years and we've had plenty of terrible performances as a result.

We rotated players and are still ahead of arsenal and spurs. We are 5 points off chelsea and we havent played them even once yet. So, its not so bad really.

According to you, anyone who would sign a player from a lower division without seeing him play, has no common sense. Your opinion on our manager ties in with this topic perfectly. Would you say he has completely lost the plot?

We have always rotated players and we have won many titles rotating players.

No, we don't know that.

Evras looked badly off form so far this season with many supporters calling for him to be dropped/rested. As soon as he gets left out of a game the manager gets criticised. Did we not keep a cleansheet? So it hardly turned out to be the wrong decision.

Berbatovs played every game in the league so far. In midweek he put in a tiring shift on his own upfront. Following watching them in training all week he picked a striker in form (Owen) and another striker who was fresh and had made a big impact against Valencia a couple of days earlier (Macheda). Not really that controversial a decision, and still a team good enough to pick up 3 points.

Clearly he thought he had picked the best men for the job. In hindsight it may appear different but we cant say for sure one way or the other seeings we dont work with the players on a daily basis like Fergie does

2006/2007: EPL winners, UCL semi finals, FA Cup finalist
2007/2008: EPL winners and UCL winners
2008/2009: EPL winners, UCL finalist and CC winners
2009/2010: 2nd place in the EPL and CC winners.

I hope Fergie keeps fecking around with this team, he obviously lost the plot!

I don't recall saying Fergie has no common sense and why would I when that's obviously not the case? Just that he/the club have a strange definition of value for money.

Now, if you want to discuss the issue further, I suggest you discuss it in an appropriate thread rather than derailing this one.

Even send me a nasty PM if my opinion regarding the Bebe topic has gotten up your nose as much as it appears to :smirk:

"The last few years" have been a bit of a disaster alright. What was he thinking?

I'm going to love watching this thread develop. I can tell already.

Sometimes I wonder if the mods make these threads as honeypots for the spastics. Sadly, no bannings ever happen, ruining the dream. :(

You said it, not me. I don't know why you are getting annoyed. I quote:

Would you pay £7m for a player from Torquay or anyone else from League 1? No is the answer I'd expect from anyone with any common sense.

So what, in your opinion, has led to SAF's dramatic fall from grace?

Nowhere does that say that SAF lacks common sense, without being privy to the information at his disposal from his scouts, contacts, and ITK's, anyone from the group of people I was addressing(ie.anyone on here) willing to justify that outlay as "good value" would be slightly biased/lacking in common sense. And I stand by that statement.

Next time you try digging up dirt, you must do better than something you've read between the lines with.

For anyone to say Fergie lacks common sense is well...someone lacking in common sense.

Finally, something we agree on.

feck me I did not mean to start world war 3......I for one am very confused about what regie seems to do with the team rotation, surely berbs and evra should have played last sat they have no intrnational games and have a good rest coming up...strange,,,but suppose he knows best.......on another subject glad to see kevin davies getting called up for england, hope he gets a start and bustles up a few dfenders,,,,,,

team selections have been fine...

injuries/a lack of strength in midfield/defensive mistakes and carelessness in front of goal have cost us points at everton, fulham and sunderland

we bang on about how scholes and fletcher are fantastic footballers but we are yet to control a game properly away from home this season so something is not right in midfield

i think away from home if we are going to play scholes we need to play him in a 3 - thats what was effective last season

An off form Evra is still better than O'Shea and he still provides great width on the left hand side, something we missed against Sunderland. If you're going away to Sunderland who've got a great home record, you want your best players starting. Berbatovs fitness is fine, I'm sure he was capable of completing another 90 minutes, we looked so much better when he came on at half time.

We played great football in 2007-08 season, as we had a consistent line up, great partnerships were developed and we played great football. Ferguson has now rotated too much, players can't develop an onfield relationship/partnership with each other and we're less entertaining. I'm not doubting the quality of the team, we've had brilliant players and a great defence, but we need consistency in the lineup to get the best out of the team and allow these partnerships to develop, and even the most idiotic fanboy can't disagree with that, although I'm sure Pogue Mahone will do his best.

Not the case at all, we rotated heavily in 2007/08 and still as you said played good football and had a very successful season.

The only recent season where we kept a consistent line-up throughout was 2006/07, it's no coincedence that we were flagging towards the end of that otherwise superb season. Fergie learnt from it and beefed up the squad and has utilised many players throughout the seasons since.

SAF obviously has faith in all of his players, so what we may see as a gamble when it comes to team selection he may not. Sometimes, in fact a good majority of the time, his gambles work.

Of course I'm going to disagree with you. Unfortunately, I find it very hard to agree with you on anything, due to your habit of constantly talking bollox.

Constant squad rotation has been an integral part of our last three league titles (it arguably began even before then) due in part to Chelsea raising the bar domestically but mainly to allow us to be more effective than we had been in the past, when it comes to competing on two fronts. It's no coincidence that the heaviest and most sustained squad rotation coincided with the most success in Europe. Obviously, he won't always get his team selection absolutely spot on for every game (I can't understand the team he selected against Sunderland, for example) but he gets it right more often than not and it's not gonna stop any time soon.

While football can be a complicated game and the job of the manager can vary from tactics, training, and managing egos, there is but one job: to win the match.

It is undeniable by anyone from any angle that this is the only thing the manager is supposed to do. How they get there and who they bring with are all secondary and subject to opinion, but they are simply there to win.

Enter possibly the greatest manager of all time in Sir Alex Ferguson.

What he has done in the past two decades has been remarkable and still is. The players he has had under his tutelage are amongst the best of their generations.

When he does retire, he will be missed by supporters and opponents alike for how he has changed the game.

But this season something has changed. Sometimes, it appears that he does not even want to win.

The draw with Everton in which his team gave up two goals in stoppage time and the recent draw with Sunderland are prime examples.

This past week, with a chance to close the gap on Chelsea, he inexplicably left the red-hot Dimitar Berbatov on the bench for the first half, and the Black Cats dominated.

Even after his introduction, they lacked the rhythm to take the game back and once again dropped points.

So, why Sir Alex, why?

Where is the killer instinct and edge that has made United such a glorious club? Where is the desire to run away from the rest of the table and set records for winning?

So, for forgetting what his role is in the world of football and letting down fans of the Premiership, Sir Alex Ferguson is the Premiership Villain of the Week.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but i think that in our CL winning season, our constants in the squad was Rooney and Ronaldo forming a great attacking partnership and understanding of their respective games. The other constants was Rio/Vidic/Evra and VDS. So based on that out of any 11 on the field, 6 of them were playing regularly. These players formed the back bone of that CL winning season.
I can't remember but i think Fletcher featured quite often in our midlfield as well.

I don't which smiley corresponds to my mood so I put both

Misguided article.

For a team that didn't want to win see Rangers at Old Trafford.

We wanted to win, we just went about it the wrong way at Sunderland and were undone by late defensive incompetence at Everton, neither of which amounts to not wanting to win (it's not like SAF called Vidic and Evans over going into stoppage time and said 'listen lads, see that Aussie midget over there? Just let him rape you in the air for the next few okays k?')

Swap Ronaldo for Nani and the same is true now, apart from the back four.

The chopping and changing at the back has been forced on him by a combination of injuries, bad form and the lack of an obvious choice at right back. Rafael's done really well in his last couple of games and Rio's back so we might see a settle back four again in the next few games.

So, apart from the obvious injuries to our back four, we would have had a pretty consistant team so far this season (in terms of team selection).

It seems consistancy in team selection works.

Not really. Or at least it depends how you define consistent. An average of 4 or 5 changes to each starting XI isn't really picking the same team consistently, is it?

Some bizarre team selections to say the least, the shapre against Sunderland was an absolute nightmare. I forget the exact figure but it's something like 150 games without keeping the same team.

O yeah... I totally agree... it's hi time for SAF to stick to 11 players... Hargreaves should play everytime...

Evra has been in poor form and for all you know Berbatov may have had a knock. Jesus christ.

Of course you're one of the ones in the Match Day threads with an O'Shea agenda though aren't you?
