FIFA Ballon d’Or 2013

Actually I've now noticed that the Twitter account https://twitter.com/AgenciaNews is in Spanish and doesn't link to the actual Agencia News (Brazil and therefore in Portuguese). So for news agency, read Twitter ITK  - unless someone does know who they are!

Maybe the gambling types on here know more about their history, credibility or not.

Just so I can laugh at Red Cafe fanboys I hope Messi wins it. Ronaldo has edged him IMO for his form in the 2nd half of the year but it is far from clear cut

Sir Alex Ferguson (Scotland/Manchester United FC former coach), Jupp Heynckes (Germany/FC Bayern München former coach) and Jürgen Klopp (Germany/Borussia Dortmund) for the FIFA World Coach of the Year for Men’s Football award
So how likely is it that the voters turned it into a lifetime achievement award for Ferguson?

Well, maybe Ferguson deserves it for winning the league and almost putting Real out of the CL, if we look at United without him ;).

Dely Valdes (Panama Manager):

1. Cristiano Ronaldo
2. Lionel Messi
3. Frank Ribery

Marca claim to know who the winner is already. If they're correct, it's a deserved win.
Cristiano Ronaldo has garnered more votes than Franck Ribéry and Leo Messi and will therefore carry off the precious award, thus bringing an end to the dominance of the Argentine, who has won all of the last three.

The 69 goals Ronaldo scored during 2013, and his spectacular ending to the year have tipped the balance of the jury, which consists of team selectors, club captains and journalists the world over, who this time round have almost unanimously chosen Cristiano Ronaldo as the best player of the year.

Ronaldo has known he is the winner since last week, and will therefore travel to Zurich, where he will find his close family waiting for him, as well as his girlfriend, model Irina Shayak, and his agent Jorge Mendes. Also going will be Florentino Pérez, Emilio Butragueño, Zinedine Zidane and Sergio Ramos, who will be named best central defender of the year, jointly with Thiago Silva.

Neither Leo Messi's reputation, nor Franck Ribéry's triple success, being a member of the team which won the German league and cup as well as the Champions League, have on this occasion been enough to defeat Cristiano Ronaldo, determined to win his second Ballon d'Or since signing for Real Madrid.

I know Marca are shit and biased when it comes to stats, but this is a bit too much..

They way they put it though, it seems like FIFA did actually inform Ronaldo that he is the winner to get him to go to Zurich, so I think the report is accurate when it comes to this year's winner.

The shocking part of that article is at the end:

Sergio Ramos, who will be named best central defender of the year

Seriously?

apparently he was told he had won to make sure he didn't duck out the ceremony which he has done previously

Would turn out to be funny if they were wumming him just to have him there.

Nothing shocking about it mate. Last FIFA World XI was a joke already and it was even funnier when BVB and Bayern wiped their arses with Real and Barca respectively next CL campaign.

I think that's what he's worried about as well.

He's been missing every shot (except the ones from Gareth Bale that he's blocking) since Madrid told him to go.

You can really tell they're a Real Madrid paper. Not Messi's quality, just his "reputation". Not to mention zero acknowledgement of the injuries that have probably made this the most one-sided Ballon d'Or in a while. As for Ribery, he's just there to make up the numbers as will always be the case while Messi & Ronaldo are playing at this level.

Isn't this actually his first Ballon d'Or since signing for Real Madrid? Could've sworn he won the first while still at United.

You're living in past history - history now shows that Ronaldo won it whilst playing for Madrid after winning the Champions League with them in 2008 with Ryan Giggs scoring the winning penalty in Moscow, and winning the Club World Cup when Wayne Rooney scored the winner in the final, all whilst winning the Premier League for the second of three times in a row; a truly remarkable achievement for a normal Spanish club, but obviously Real Madrid are a bit special

Like I said above.. Take a better look at the article and you'll see that they even got the number of Ballon d'Ors Messi won wrong.

Not sure what you mean by this Ballon d'Or being the most one-sided in a while though...

I would be very disappointed if Ronaldo didn't win it this time.

FIFA deserves credit for making the "announcement" a really pointless thing in terms of suspense.

The title is 'Ronaldo by knock out', and the caption reads 'After huge suspense, the Portuguese from Real Madrid won in a masterly fashion the 57th Ballon d'Or, his second after his 2008 prize. He finishes ahead of his great rival Lionel Messi and of Franck Ribéry, considered to be the favorite for a long time but only third in the end'.

Where'd you find this Mel?
