Frank Lampard's Sack Watch / Sacked

I think he'll be ok. The win glosses over the fact we could have been down 2 or 3 goals in the first half. The team is capable of playing well and I'm sure on another day those shots go in.

I thought Chelsea played well.
We rode our luck in the first 15 or 20 minutes.
They played a similar pressing game.
They have some very good players.
I liked Mount. He was very sharp.

Sure Lampard will do well.
He seems a decent guy too.

You could hear the disappointment in his voice when the journalist told him Mourinho was critical of his boy Mount

Agree with all of that. If the penalty didn't happen we were in for a long afternoon.

I think we still would have won even if we'd been behind at half time. Chelsea were extremely vulnerable defensively and were too open without the ball, it was only a matter of time before we cut through them.

Looking at their team sheet it, they are... well, not good, you'd think it's a midtable club.

Everyone is a mid-table team anyway when United beats them because everyone underestimates Ole and this team.
Can we at least say that they are better than Norwich? Cause there is a rumor that Liverpool beat Norwich 4:1 at home... we did 4:0, so if this Chelsea is better than Norwich, we did better than Liverpool for the first game at home. Right?

No chance, the 15/16 squad was significantly worse.

You had Hazard and Costa. Majority of that squad returned the following season and won the league. This squad isn’t going to do that.

Weird, I thought a new manager was supposed to have an invincible honeymoon period.
So he shouldn't be criticized because he is a nice guy, lacks experience and has to deal some injuries. People here were tearing Ole apart during the bad run under pretty similar circumstances (injuries and lack of fitness added up, one of our two world class players being in the worst form of his career, the other one thinking about sunny Madrid) after having taken over after Mourinho mid season.

People are too influenced by the final result and disregard the actual performance. Chelsea were quite good up to the 2nd goal and had a more recognisable style of play despite the fact that Lampard has worked with the team for 5-6 weeks and was missing key players. He'll do well if some of the attackers step up. My humble opinion is that having an established style of play is a better predictor than having a string of good results.

Think he will do ok but no more than that. Can see a few more bad results coming and an awkward settling in period though.

It's got nothing to do with your result, and yes, they're better than Norwich, but the names are pretty uninspiring. It's hard to believe that it's Chelsea. TBF you don't look like anything close to United either, but you're at worst a top 5-6 side, with a chance for a top 4 finish. You've got the better squad for sure.

Imagine if United had the same squad as last season, but lost Pogba, and recalled some players who were out on loan. That is what Lampard has to deal with, except that Hazard was more influential and better than Pogba. Higuain has gone back and they've got rid of Luiz as well, so their squad depth is also arguably weaker than last season.

It is clearly going to be a massive struggle for them, they basically have to write this season off, and try to look on it as a learning experience for players like Loftus-Cheek, Hudson-Odoi, Mount, Pulisic and Abraham. They have a very young squad, with only Pedro, Willian and Giroud aged over 30. Next season could be promising for them, as they'll have tonnes of money to spend, and they could have a strong foundation to build on if some of their young players develop this term.

Whether they would be able to attract the top players with no CL football, as seems likely, remains to be seen, but they'll certainly have the money to compete for the likes of Zaha, Coutinho, Dybala, Icardi, etc. They certainly could be very strong next season, but they're going to have to accept that this season will be a massive challenge, and likely unsuccessful.

It also doesn't help that that their young and talented players got injured.

I think he'll get at least a season because he's Lampard

the expectation is slightly lower than in previous years IMO because nobody expects them to challenge for the league, and they have a transfer ban too

I thought they started very well yesterday, and they could have had a very early lead. After 2-0 down they were too open. The result is more 'one of these days' than bad setup, although more after 2-0 down might have been smarter to not continue all out attacking but wait for the break.

Why were Tammy Abraham and Mason Mount starting? Others not fit enough?

Or does Lampard think Abraham is their best striker? Ahead of Grioud, Batshuayi.. In fairness, its not a lot to choose from. And people thought we'd struggle for goals.

Looking at the Chelsea squad. - https://www.premierleague.com/clubs/4/Chelsea/squad -
They arent short on numbers.. A lot of players that would have gone out on loan have stayed back because of the transfer ban..

The third goal came from Pulisic losing the ball straight from the kickoff after the second, it was a brilliant pass and finish too so its hard to say they were going all out attack then. I guess losing 3-0 or 4-0 still hurts but if they'd have brought the game back to 3-1 or 3-2 it might have felt better.

While his job is quite difficult this season, he's also in a situation where he's a genuine success if he just gets 4th place. That's a nice premise for a club of that caliber, especially for a managerial debut. There's so little pressure on him that it's not even a serious failure unless they finish outside the top 8, which remains unlikely. Noone will be the least bit surprised if Chelsea win nothing at all, and if they can eke out a 4th place finish, Frank Lampard's career is off to a good start.

However I didnt see much better from United. They were outplayed by a bunch of kids for 60 minutes. United and Chelsea can keep each other company at the bottom of the so called top 6.

You mean we were outplayed by a bunch of kids until our younger bunch of kids battered you 4-0? :)

Mad to see how much Chelsea have turned into Arsenal. Selling your best player, taking solace in "outplaying" your rival who beat you 4-0 because you passed the ball about a bit.

To be fair, it’s a fairer representation of what a Chelsea team *should* look like without the Russian blood money.

I reckon chelsea knew they were going to have a shit season this season and got Lampard knowing that his contract wont be a long one and therefore can pay him off at the end of the season easily. Its not Lampard's fault his squad is atrocious.

I think he's a good manager who's stuck in a bad situation, with a transfer ban in his first season and their best player gone. Their season should be viewed as succesful if they get top 4 (and maybe to the QFs of the CL if the draw is kind to them).

I like Frank - he comes across as honest, down to earth and hardworking. They played really well - just didn't have quality finishers. I wish him the best.

Only saw the highlights but thought they were very good for half an hour. Were unlucky hitting the woodwork twice but I'm basically left with the same opinion I've had all summer which is they've no one worth a wank up front. If they're relying on Tammy Abraham to fire them up the table they're in for a very frustrating season, I've seen nothing to suggest he's prem level

I dont think Lampard made the right tactic yesterday. You cant go out and all in one of the best counter teams in PRL, they played really good in 30-40 mins of a 90 min game, the second half was dreadfull, Lingard got so much place to run around and Lingard is definitely not the best player on that position. They will meet so many teams there have a better midfield then United, who will and can control the game so much better. They will end up in the middle around christmas, and Lampard will be booked as favorite to lose his job.

Thanks because I thought Liverpool did so well against Norwich but somehow we were so shit... let us be, that United team will surprise more than one.

What a strange post

Lampard comes off as a great fella, but that was a far from encouraging start.

They knocked the ball about nicely in the first half, but they didn't really look like a consistent threat. Second half they were a mess once their out ball was cut off and lacked defensive structure for the transitions. This may improve when they legs of Kante and Rudiger are back in the team, but if I was a Chelsea I would not have enjoyed what I saw from their side yesterday.

You mean the days when we could only attract nobodies - Cudcini in goal. Gullit. Zola Vialli. Desailly. Lebeouf. Gallas. Lampard. Hasselbaink. Gudjohnson. Every one of those pre-Abramovich players would walk into the current team! Best to know the facts before having a dig.

They played well yesterday, they have quite a few injured players which will boost them when back. With the transfer ban he should be given more time than usual.

I think Frank got Chelsea playing good free flowing intelligent football. They gave us a good game and we're unlucky in the first half. Some of his defenders were clumsy and thuggish and I imagine he will have words about that.
I think Chelsea should make top four or five and I like the number of players who can shoot well.

What a strange post
Nothing strange, that's what everyone seems to say, no?
"We should have lost, we beat a weak Chelsea team, but Liverpool beating 4:1 Norwich was world class and in continuity of last year, etc...".
What feds me up is that no one seems to acknowledge our really high ceiling, or the fact that Ole dynamically adapted to Lampard's high press during the whole game continuously... whatever, we have 8 days to enjoy and then we go for another win.
