You're actually called Phil Jones? This is my name, not a name I took from someone. I was just just unlucky that it turned out that way

I agree I really hate it when a player that we sign for big money end up getting a chance to prove themselves frankly I was disappointed that we didn't break Lukaku legs as soon as he entered the training ground. Oh well.
Yes, that's exactly what Mourinho value and to that Shaw now seem to have responded, if you're to believe the media. Activate his option is completely the right thing to do.Its exactly a year ago since he returned from that injury, the general consensus was that it would/should take him around 3-4 months to get back upto speed. He was massively dissappointing last year, with question marks over his fitness/mind set/desire.
This guy is a long way away from being a top lb
Stop wearing those skinny jeans, it makes your arse look massive. Thanks man. Know that I'll do everything possible to repay that faith you put in me.

Can't be tossing aside £30m assets in the current market especially when the asset is quite young and has shown potential. Spunking £50m on likes of Danny Rose makes no sense either considering we don't have bottomless pit of cash.
Having your leg broken by a psychopathic arsehole isn't the same as being a crock.Indeed better to keep throwing money away in a bottomless pit.
Shaw is crocked, he has been here for 3 years and has hardly played.
Just pull plug and get us a leftback who we can rely on.
Has people here forgot that, at times, Luke Shaw was our greatest attacking threat during LvG's first season? And how ridiculousy good he was before that PSV prick broke his leg?

It still confuses me how so many posters insist Shaw was called out by managers for being fat because they questioned his fitness. Like, seriously.Even before it happened, his first season was shocking. He came to the club out of shape and only played 16 games for us. Pretty sure both Hodgson and Van Gaal called him fat that season as well.
This is what sticks out to me more than 5 games against awful teams which fans keep going on about prior to his injury. Seems to get leeway from fans that Anderson would get slaughtered for.
When reading crap like this I'm relieved that José Mourinho is the one who manage this football club. You really think we should pay £50m+ for Danny fecking Rose? All in the past, it is a shame what happened that night but it left us with a ruined player. Now you can keep having faith in him and keep being disappointed every single year and in the process also cripple the team for having no reliable leftback or you can get on with business and start looking for a replacement.
I think those things can be overcome. His mentality can be worked on, and it looks like he was well on the way last season. I'd rather Jose continued his development, but I agree a reliable option is needed. If after this season we're in the same position with Shaw then I'd probably, begrudgingly, concede it's time to move on. I just don't think he's been given a fair shot yet.It seems he ruined more than Shaw's leg alone. His leg injury was supposed to be over by now but he seems to fall from 1 injury into the other and Mourinho has already openly questioned his mental strenght needed to get back to his former self.
It might be harsh but that sounds like a broken player to me and I don't think we should keep investing time and money and hold off on signing a new leftback for the sake of a broken player.

'He's shocking except for the games he wasn't.' Nice.

An injury like that where you've been out for a significant period of time will often end up giving you other smaller injuries for a while when you try to come back. Which is what ended up happening. Its exactly a year ago since he returned from that injury, the general consensus was that it would/should take him around 3-4 months to get back upto speed. He was massively dissappointing last year, with question marks over his fitness/mind set/desire.

Luke Shaw has the potential to be a fantastic player. I'm glad we're looking at developing him instead of discarding him before he's really had a chance and moving onto the next new thing.

When was Shaw ever abysmal for us?I was talking about his first season in which he was abysmal in. This sticks out to me more than 5 games of his second season which people keep raving about. I believe his first season is a better sample to assess his United career on. He has been undeniably out of shape for most of his United career and I'm not going to bother to judge him post injury.
Unlike some posters that endlessly defend him. At least from his interviews, Shaw is showing self-awareness of not doing enough in training and not having the right fitness required. Personally, I don't trust him to stay fit.
Probably a bit of both. There's definitely a good player in there somewhere, if there wasn't then we probably wouldn't be arsed about losing him for nothing and would happily let his contract wind down.It has nothing to do with his development imo. We are extending because no one wants to lose a 22 years old on the free, even if he will never play for us again.
I think the fact that we haven't signed a left-back is a pretty strong indicator that Jose is prepared to put his faith in Shaw this season. The title is just a bit deceptive, made it sound like Mourinho was ready to put faith in Shaw for this season. Still, I suppose it's positive news that we aren't going to let him leave for free.
Would sell him and sign Rose personally, he has to deliver this season or that's it for him.
