GIBSON SETS HIS SIGHTS
Darron Gibson has set his sights on starring in another Wembley Cup final - just days after helping Manchester United to the first step of an unprecedented Quintuple.
The Republic of Ireland international midfielder was still pinching himself after featuring in United's tense League Cup victory against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
Now Gibson, who has made his mark at Old Trafford following loan spells at Royal Antwerp and Wolverhampton Wanderers, is hoping to earn a call-up to the United side for Saturday's Quarter Final tie at Fulham.
The 21-year-old scored in his team's 4-1 win at Derby in the Fifth Round and is now determined to establish himself as a first-team regular under Sir Alex Ferguson.
"If you had asked me at the start of the season whether I would be playing in a Wembley final, then I would never have believed it", he said.
"But my chances have come this season and I've taken them as well as I could have done and I'm delighted.
"It was absolutely brilliant to be out there against Tottenham and although it was nerve-wrecking to watch the penalty shoot-out, I think we deserved to win.
"I am surprised with the progress I've made but the main aim now is to break into the first team and establish myself.
"I need to keep my head down, keep working hard and hopefully more chances will come."
Gibson has been forced to wait for his chance with the reigning European champions, but he insists that he never had any doubt that he would make the grade.
"I never worried that it wasn't going to happen for me at United, because I never really had a proper go at it," he added.
"If it hadn't have happened for me this season, then perhaps I might have worried then."
