dont think he was that poor in the first half but he did seem on a completely different plane to his team mates at times,

love watching him run with the ball, he just looks so natural on it even if he does lose it or plays the wrong final ball a lot!

theres bags of potential there imo, technically he's fine he just needs more time in the first team now to get to know his team mates games better and their/our style of play

Don't think it was his best game but the goal he scored was very good and all in all a good nights work for Obertan.

One thing I've liked about Obertan since his first game for our reserves has been his short-passing game. His vision and timing of a pass is one of his best qualities. However, when he's not properly reading the runs of his team-mates - or they're not predicting his pass - it goes a bit tits up.

There was a couple of nice moments linking up with Rafael but he generally fecked up more passes than he completed last night. Given time, though, his passing in and around the box could be a great asset. If him and Rooney can get on each other's wave-length they could be great together (mind you, I thought the same about Berbatov and Rooney but they still haven't clicked).

I love him when he is on the ball. Makes things happen.
I like those direct kind of players.

His passing was a bit off at times, but overall a great performance yesterday.

True, but Obertan is far more direct than Berbatov. And I think the reason why Berbatov and Rooney have never clicked is that Berbatov has that split second of hesitation, and that half a yard less pace. Not slagging him, he's on a different wave length to Rooney's direct nature.

When you look back to the devastating, short-lived trio of Rooney, Ronnie, and Carlos Tevez - you recall three players who were as direct as sharks on the blood scent. Nani has this quality, as does Obertan.

It's exciting, it's what United is all about.

Obertan's dribbling seems incredibly natural. Like he learned how to stepover before he could walk.

I just get this feeling with him, that one day it's just going to click, and some poor team is going to get Oberbliterated.TM

Nothing like smashing the ball in the top corner to change peoples opinion of you!!

Nice goal, decent performance.

Still gives the ball away far too much, would be costly against better opposition. Hopefully he can work on this.

Still worrying how anonymous he can be at times. Needs to contribute more in general play if he’s to have a chance of making it. Playing in the central role is certainly beneficial for him at the moment, as he doesn’t get as much time to dwell on the ball.

He's definitely earned himself a little run in the team now, especially with Nani out.

There were a lot of heavy touches under no pressure as well. I thought he was poor up until the goal, then really started to look a class act afterwards.

Hopefully the goal will encourage him to be a bit more direct at times as he often seems to make a penetrative run and then procrastinates and ends up running down a cul de sac and losing possession.

Do you mean his goal, or our first? I thought he made a fantastic driving run down the middle which set up the attack for Fletcher's goal; best bit of play all match for me that one run was.

He's an odd player

I like him, but I'm not sure he's very good, even though he looks dangerous, and he excites me

I'm still putting it down to him being raw as feck... but you can't be raw for ever, otherwise it just might be you're not very good

Cracking finish, didn't even go in the corner but he hit it so hard, keeper had no chance

That's where I am. He has 'something' I just don't know what the feck it is.

I dunno. I reckon over the last two or three weeks he's been very good, I get the impression that his rawness might stem simply from a lack of game time. As his body's bulked up it appears that his game has too; he's far more physical and battling and I think that that aspect will likely have been something he's been working towards in training. He's gone from Bambi to The Terminator in twelve months, and I expect his mentality has bulked up with him, if you know what I mean. Whereas before he might have liked to shoulder past his man into a dangerous position, now he knows he can.

He really needs to stop fecking up simple passes by trying to be stylish, Nani used to do the same guess it will come with age.

Yes agree with some of you lot, that he's rough around the edges but like Nani before, you can see the special bits about him. Lets be honest he's only 21 and he's not been here long and had a handful of games, which consist of pre season and Carling cup games as well. Look how Nani is cracking on now he's getting a consistent run out.

He makes mistakes but he excites and that is good to see, especially when it comes off like the other night.

Im still to decide if hes genuinely very good or generally very shit, i don't know how to explain it really when he gets the ball i feel like he can do something brilliant just as much as i cringe at knowing hes likely to do something shit.

Strange player.

We're flogging a dead horse here but how many times did you feel like that about Nani?

Obertan is talented. Just watched that video again. It re-confirmed to me that he did pretty well.

I can see him getting plenty more opportunities this season and it will be interesting to see how he does.

Oh i don't disagree, i like him i rate him in an odd way though thats more what i was trying to get across, hes a very odd player, hes clearly got a lot of raw talent as hes also clearly got a long way to go, the raw ingredients are there for sure, he does excite me and i do look forward to him getting chances when the right games come up, he just divides my opinion about 30 times a match, one minutes he looks utterly useless and the next he looks amazing, case in point against Bursa, couldn't pass the ball 2 yards in the first half, second half scores an absolute screamer, thats just Obertan.

He has all the tools to be a very good player. Question is whether he can develop the composure to be a very good player.

He isn't the winger sorme of us thought he was. He's more of an attacking midfield linking play up.

Interestingly or not...our worst two passers against Wolves were Chicharito and Bebe, Bebe misplaced 12 of his 27 passes, and Chicharito misplaced 8-9 of his passes.

Obertan, Fletcher, Scholes, even O'Shea were good in possession, despite not being very incisive with it.

*Apologies for the OT.

I think that was what Nani was like, and look where he is now, arguably one of the most important players of this current United team.

Obertan has all the raw talent for the United coaches to work with, and if he takes on board everything the United coaches and Sir Alex tell him, he could well turn out to be a very good player for United.

Or maybe just the modern day wide man who plays on the opposite flank to his preferred foot

I'm not talking about left side or right side. He's less like a Valencia or Bale who are traditional wingers or even the likes of Beckham, Nani or various others who had different tools to supply with. Obertan seems more like an attacking midfielder and seems to play better through a tad more central areas. His short passing has a lot of potential IMO. He doesn't look the type to provide lots of width and get in crosses.

His performance against Wolves didnt merit his own youtube compilation but it is good to see what he is about. If he can find the mental strength then he can be a super player but will probably be at least until after Christmas before we really start to see the best of him.

Again, an impressive cameo. Gives us alot of speed throughout the middle. The player we thought Anderson would be.

Fergie must play Park though. So frustrating.
