Game 15: France vs Albania

There's something unlikable about Deschamps. I'm definitely Team Eric in that beef.

Very harsh on Albania I feel. Kept France at half chances and forced shots outside the box but a last minute feckup in defense and that's it. Such is the fate of minnows. Must be nice to be the home team though and get everry 50/50 decision your way. Not sure if the French can complain about a single decision so far.

Maybe I'm needlessly against the French the moment, probably explained by me having to type on a AZERTY layout. Who knew such a small change could be this annoying.

What was up with the pitch. Lots of slipping going around. Is it a ill prepared pitch or it was raining in Marseille?

Simply not true today. The ref made some very strange calls and non-calls for both sides throughout I thought.

France didn't play well at all. Payet and Kante had another great game but as a team they underperformed again. Albania fought hard.

What exactly ? Eric was a bit thick with criticizing Deschamps the way he did it.

In all seriousness, France has been disappointing, worrying and very underwhelming.
They are still favourites for me

They have showed character in both games and they have quality

Against the bigger teams I think they will rise to it

Deschamps has a cheeky personality, he is actually quite likable.

Nah it was a brillant pass. Could have easily over powered or under powered it. Perfect

Well he did slightly over power it as Gignac had to chase it wide, it didn't land at his feet.

It was a good pass, but he had a gigantic area to put the ball in, it's a pass Rooney makes every game.

Deschamps still does not seem to know who his starting 11 are. And in all honesty the French team is winning due to individual skills and not because they are playing as a team. Tactically he got it all wrong again at the start, defense still looks disorganised and his tendency to play either Giroud or Gignac up top instead to Greizmann is baffling.

I hope so.

You will have to elevate your level quite a bit I feel. Switzerland looked in both games, Romania is weak and Albania showed grit but not a lot of class. It's probably the easiest group out of the three and France looked very average.

PS: For purely unbiased reasons that have nothing to do with my team I hope to go deep and I hope Coman starts every game from now on.

Albania deserved something out from both their games! Really unlucky. As for France, they have been really underwhelming in both their games, against the 2 "easier" teams. Have a feeling, they'd be Argentina of 2014. Will go far, but would not be convincing at all

Nothing specifically, just one of those feelings you just have about people without actually basing it on anything. Maybe it's the way the team is set up. I noticed the French word just for him is "selectioneér" which in an English sounding mind would sound like "the one who picks" which is kindly what it looks like he does. Giroud doesn't seem to fit at all, the back 4 + Kante and have their fixed roles and the other " players seem to be in a fairly free role but have '( minutes to play well or they're axed. Subbing on players like that really isn't that effective and it feels like they always have to relcalibrate because of the many changes up front.

Not true. Some strange decisions both ways, but overall he did well.

Wasn't anything criminal today but the French got away with some fouls while it was never the case the other way around. Refs do seem to have a no-nonsense approach to the tournament which I like and they've had a good tournament.

All of it is based on football which can make sense. Eric was on about something else entirely.

That comment was also more tongue-in-cheek than anything with this being a United-forum and all. I thought his comments were just a dig at a man he dislikes. I didn't take them seriously because they were quite ridiculous and Eric isn't a stupid man.

Who is surprised about France being so shit? not me for sure , Told everyone than this team is Overrated by EPL fans ,I cant wait to see them getting spanked by the first decent team they will face.

It was the other way around as well. Remember when Evra got just straight up fouled from behind, the Albanian just sweeping his leg, and then got a foul against him because he tried to control the ball after falling?

Albania's offensive game just not as good as their defensive game.

Can't say that I do. If it was in the first half then it probably happened during a fetching of a drink.

France was poor. They have very good squad but don't look like a team. Also, they looked vulnerable especially considering 2 DMs in midfield. Evra looks bad defensively.

Don't think relying on individuals will get them far in this tournament (and it seems it's all on Payet, the rest seem to be out of form).

Payet is gonna be player of the tournament. Still not at all impressed with France as a team though, if they keep playing like this they won't stand a chance against Germany, Italy or Spain.

Yeah I feel lie Germany and Spain are too well controlled for this French team. And Italy will be well disciplined and take their chances.

But home advantage, plus the most impressive collection of attacking options in the tournament means that they have a very good chance.

You could see though that they could play ball when the French let off the gas a bit. France simply has a lot more quality and kept the match at a high tempo for 90 minutes. Reminded me a lot of yesterday's match but France showed more quality than Portugal.

It looked like the French had some Van Gaal-ian inspiration in that first half. Stupid, impossible pass to the striker who has no support - neglecting the wide play in the process.

Second half was good though, although 90% of what they created came from Payet (at least I got that impression). Ironically the French wide play improved dramatically when they subbed a winger/inside forward for a midfielder. Last game they improved by subbing Griezman/Pogba for Coman/Martial, this game they improved by making the opposite subs. Not easy for Deschamps to pick the next team

Cant say its anything but a well deserved win. Still, I feel a little for Albania, who really made it difficult.

Two games below average from Paul Pogba, he has been unimpressive so far. I´m amazed at his decision-making at some points, like the dribble today when he had options on the right and left
