I was expecting more crushing heartache about the Red Wedding from that post. I'm disappointed.
Thing is, everyone banged on about how great and bloody that episode was when it happened, I expected much more from it. Didn't expect the character deaths correctly mind.
That's totally fair enough. You can foe me if you want, or whatever it is that means none of my posts show up in your feed. I made my bed eighteen months ago and being allowed back in doesn't mean everyone should just suddenly forget what happened. Back then I watched TV differently and the role that Internet discussions played in my life was much larger. Frankly, I had an obsession with being right and I got pretty angry with myself when I wasn't - that affected my behaviour in this thread when season 7 was aired. But, you know, time goes on, things change, and so do people I suppose.
As for every previous leaker being allowed back in, if I'm allowed back in then those banned previously for similar offences probably should be too. It wasn't my decision to be reinstated but I don't want to be the only beneficiary of the new posting guidelines for the thread. But on the other hand, if the general consensus is that it's everybody back in or nobody back in, then I'm comfortable with being locked out again. Sure, I got the itch when the season started again (hence me asking to be let back in) and I've lurked after every episode to see what the Cafe has made of them, but if this is still a sensitive issue for people then I completely understand. I'm under orders to be on my best behaviour and I will stick to that. However you respond is totally fine.
Eh, almost everything the living did doesn't make sense if you don't treat it as a TV show. It was all about the visuals. In the writer's minds Melisandre was always turning up to set the arakhs on fire so it's not worth considering what they might have done if she hadn't.
Game of Thrones hasn't stood up to any sort of deep scrutiny for years, it's just a popcorn TV show to enjoy now.
Well, it certainly has a different effect when you don't expect anything gruesome to happen... it's a wedding after all.

They're refusing to use the dragonglass arakhs we made for them, they said they've already crossed the poison water for Daenerys, and now we're trying to replace their beloved Arakhs for some "piss poor western made magic shite. It's bad enough they cant rape and pillage the army of the dead afterwards, what's next their fecking horses??" That's what yer big man over there said, anyway they are'nt for budging.
Jon: Ok, I guess we'll just have to let them all go out in the first wave then if they're gonna be useless, have Ser Jorah and Ghost ride out with them on the flank then break off and head back to make them think it's all legit. Don't tell Dany either.

Also, I'm sorry but I can't stand the whole dragon scenes especially when they are gliding about with John and Daenerys on them. First of, they look very fake and CGI like. Second, what am I supposed to see there? A dragon going around woosh waash wooooooooh.
I know I sound like a hater but I'm really not. This show has had two very different themes. One was inner kingdom politics (which I loved! All the drama and action with it) and the second has been more like a horror story "ooo dragons and zombies".
I'm not really into the dragons and zombies part and I'm not sure how those that are into it were into the earlier parts. Confusing for me really. I'm still gonna watch the show due to investment in the characters.
However, I will say this seasons seems more composed and logical than the last one where Danaerys express 101 flew across the continent to save John.

I thought everyone picked up on them being normal arakhs and if Melisandre hadn't turned up out of nowhere then their plan was somehow even stupider. It made no sense other than they wanted that cool flaming swords in the dark shot. When things don't make sense in this show just ask yourself if on paper it sounds like it would look cool. That's usually the answer.
I did feel my IQ drop a little with the cavalry part.
I mean what did they expect? Cavalry goes to attack and beat all the zombies and thats it we win?
And the fact that they already had arakh props made up and it was dark so they thought nobody would notice, so they could save some money is almost certainly the explanation.
i'm not one for overreactions but i do think you should be taken outside and shot for what you did.
You see, this would only have been three-quarter shite, and thus immensely better than what they went with. Three-quarter shite, because you'd still up the NK army by tens of thousands of very fresh corpses which is still pretty dumb.
I dropped some widely reported leaks into the thread during season 7 and passed them off as my own "theories". It was kinda pathetic really but, as I said, I had an obsession with this show that bordered on unhealthy at the time. I wanted to be seen as an expert on here as opposed to simply being a super-fan, but it backfired. The post everybody constantly flags (the "timeline" post) really was just a theory of mine, which is why most of it was completely wrong, but there were a couple of pretty damning ones from later in the season. When 'The Spoils of War' leaked early (https://tvline.com/2017/08/04/game-of-thrones-season-7-episode-4-leaked-the-spoils-of-war/) I went looking for it, and while I was on those sites I found a load of leaks for the last three episodes. I didn't just come on here and predict that Viserion would die or that Cersei would betray Jon and Daenerys by not sending her forces north, but I did "suggest" that Sam might find some information about Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark in all those diaries Jim Broadbent told him to transcribe.Christ what did you do?

their swords are stupid anyway, like the way they curve in a circle, come on. how would you defeat a zombie with that? it would just get stuck in it and you'd be there in a hug with the zombie trying to get your sword out. honestly i feel like i'm the only sensible person left in the world, all you mad lunatics in here going on about Mary-Sue for the last 30 pages, i mean wtf does Spiderman's girlfriend have to do with Game of thrones?
Not even heavy cavalry, it was light cavalry. It's up there with only bothering to dig one fire pit, sticking the trebuchets out in front, not bothering to get inside the castle, not manning the walls and Melisandre having to go out to light the fire pits when Jon had literally just landed back at Winterfell with a dragon. None of it made sense.
Also they don't have to use Dothraki actors again, don't have to write them into the plot after this, no more expensive horse cavalry and they got the cool torches shot. Which to be fair was cool. Then again almost every other army that's been routed in this show has magically rebuilt itself in the next few episodes so they migth be back.

Yeah but that's just a dumb tactical error, which has been going on in the show for years.
Sending out a bunch of dudes with weapons that don't actually work would be next level dumb.
Joffrey was also pretty unexpected and undignified.
The prize for least dignified probably still goes to Tywin.
But at least no one saw it, the Lannisters could make up a story about it. Joffrey died in front of the whole city (ok all the nobles), chocking in his mom's arms. Now that's embarrassing for a bully.
Tell that to the Mongols.
Mongols were superbly gifted horse archers and would hassle and harry a hell of a lot before engaging in any kind of front line feckery. We see that a bit from the Dothraki vs the Lannisters but it's basically one volley then they slam straight in to the front lines.
Mongols were highly tactical and flexible on the battlefield, they're really not comparable to an army which seemingly just decides to do a mass charge with no thought behind it, no harassment, no cycle charging, no kind of formations or groupings.
Also, it's a reach to say the Mongols were light cavalry at all. They wore pretty heavy armour (not plate armour, but far more than the cloth the Dothraki go with) and wielded lances for extra shock in the charge.
In general, lightly armoured cavalry with arakhs is a horrible choice for a front line charge against massed infantry. Soon as the impact of the charge wears off you're going to get hacked to pieces.
I've been saying the dothraki are stupid for ages, the whole 'never meet the dothraki in open field' is dumb as it fecking gets. They're an absolute BTEC version of the Mongols without any of the sophistication and any half decent medievalesque army would stop them.
Yeah they should have let the 1v 1 with Jon happen and then found a way for Arya to get involved around that.
Bearing in mind everything we have seen the NK touch turn to a WW why didn't the same happen to Arya when he grabbed her?
The Mongols used shock cavalry to break lines after an initial aerial barrage. That's exactly what happen with the Dothraki storming the army of the dead behind the shots from the Stark trebuchets.
The Dothrakis are (were) the ultimate offensive force who had supreme confidence in themselves and who had never lost a battle. In hindsight, it was the wrong tactic. But in the moment, it would have made sense to anyone who had seen them fight.

That only happens with babies. The Night King has never touched any other living human before (unless you count Bran, but that was in a vision).

They fired like 4 shots in to the back of the Wight lines, what a barrage.The dothraki charged head on with light cavalry in to a packed infantry army, with zero disruption coming to the front of the wight lines beforehand. They couldn't outflank the wights
It made sense to nobody with a hint of military experience ever. Literally as soon as I saw them charge I laughed because it was that stupid. Light cavalry charge in to an abyss unsupported by archers or infantry against an enemy who can turn your dead bodies in to their own soldiers, gg.
Again, the Mongols used lances specifically designed to break infantry formations, rained arrows down on the enemy formations to disrupt them, but most importantly they were the best co-ordinated army of the Medieval era. No Mongol army would ever charge in to an abyss with no scouting or clue about the enemy because they were tactically superb.
The dothraki should have either a) simply accepted that a cavalry force in this scenario (siege defence) is tactically foolish and abandoned the horses. They're superb fighters on foot as well and 100,000 extra troops guarding the walls (which had nearly nobody actually on them) or the gates would have been priceless. They're portrayed as skilled archers, get a line of them on the walls.
Or b) found space on the flanks to attack the rear of the wights whilst the unsullied held the line. This is hard because visibility is basically zero and the wight army is humongous, you're not going to be able to co-ordinate any flanking manoeuvres.
The worst thing they could possibly do is abandon the main army and go on a suicide charge well ahead of everything for no other justifiable reason other than 'well dats wat da dothraki do init' as if that somehow justifies throwing away 100 thousand of your best troops.
He had his mark on him though. Why was Arya immune from anything?
