The problem a few of the posts dont take into consideration is budget too
Granted the dragon scenes from ep 1 could have been shortened but would making them 2 mins in total Vs 4 make a huge difference ?
Also it's quite telling episode 2 is shorter than most of the remaining ones and was least reliant on Cgi
Given we are basically getting movie quality scenes and shots in a TV show I think they had a balance to find. I will always say criticism on dialogue is fair given some of the stuff we've seen in the last two seasons (esp done)
But equally the battle scenes were just fantastic. It took them this long to film the battles they already did. Trying to stretch the battle without extending budget and trying to fit a deadline would seem impossible I reckon.
Because magic.
Btw adding to the dany and Jon scene I actually liked the dany and Sansa scene especially the ending. With Sansa asking about what happens to the north / winterfell after the two big battles and dany not having an answer and pulling her hand away.
Dany clearly hasn't thought past taking the iron throne and everybody bowing down to her and Sansa has with her bringing up taking back winterfell and not wanting to bow down. Thought that was affective in putting doubt about a stark/targ relationship post wars

I would absolutely love it if the walkers simply roflstomped everyone at Winterfell. No survivors. It would be like the Red Wedding x1000 for sheer shock value. All that building up, just for complete annihilation. Bringing back that classic GoT unpredictability and "nobody is safe" factor.
suspect we get a big battle next episode with plenty of characters being killed... Probably the survivors running off to the iron islands the episode after (conveniently captured off camera this week) then another big battle with added lanisters before a final episode in kings landing with some red wedding type twist as missandri or gendery somebody from left field sneeks onto the iron throne

It's not just that because D&D have written some cracking lines of their own and shown that they are excellent writers, they just seem like they've stopped caring. They've created some great scenes from scratch. Tywin and Arya scenes in Harrenhall for starters, which weren't in the books. Same goes for Catelyn talking about Jon when he was a sick baby and wishing he was dead, the whole Ramsay "rescuing" Theon, the Hound with his chickens and it goes on and on. There's even a few lines that D&D rewrote that are better or snapier than what we get in the books. A good example is when Tyrion talks to Tywin regarding Jaime. in the show it goes something like "we have our differences, Jaime and I. He's braver, I'm better looking" whereas Martin just makes a height joke.
Martin is still King, but D&D have never been hacks. I just think that they don't care. That and the first two episodes this season were written by the same guy who wrote Eastwatch - arguably the worst episode of the show since The Bad Poosy one. Which was written by two useless bastards called Daniel Weiss and David Beni......shit.

Enjoyed that, was pretty good. Theon offering to protect Bran is the funniest shit ever. Everyone being all ok with it even after Bran said he's the key to the war is even better. Yeah lets just let the guy who runs from fights and betrayed the Starks stand and protect Bran against something we don't know how to kill.

Tyrion will end up killing Snow, that's the only way he redeems himself to Dany. Dany even made a point of saying she made him her hand because he's smart and ruthless, so he gets to show his ruthless side. Tyrion did sit down with Bran, so might know Dany and Jon are related.

Now THAT was a farewell episode. So many nice interactions. Spent so long with these characters. Next week is going to be a sad one.

The proper ending for GoT would be for a new atheist movement to form in Westeros and debunk all the shitty gods. Then unmask the night king and the whitewalkers as a bunch of chancers with a fondness for Halloween costumes.

That was a better episode this week although i agree they should've mashed the first two together somehow.

That was basically it. You couldn't fit more fan service in to a single episode.
But still, it was more enjoyable.
I have this genuine problem with GOT these days, in that it's frequently so cringingly embarrassing that I struggle to maintain eye contact and have to keep glancing down at my shoes. It's just like when I have to talk to a grown up. No joke.
Seriously, if a show is so bad that you can't even look at it, why watch it?
Right now though? The show can have more than one focus throughout its entire run, surely.

The Ice King nomenclature was established in season 3. It is part of the lore.
