Yeah, would have liked more giants, we saw they had several at multiple points through the show so only seeing one in this fight was a tad underwhelming. I also thought he was going to bite her head off :lol:

Okay.

About the zombie Starks. They said you'll be safe in the crypt that many times that it was obvious that the crypts weren't safe.

Pretty sure Wun Wun and Crum were the last of the giants. Wun Wun was killed by Ramsay.

Soft stepping is fine, but my interpretation was she was already running past the white walkers at some speed. I guess she simply sprinted hard past the white walkers and jumped in, it just seems very amateur hour by the white walkers to allow that to happen is all. But she's a super assassin so I guess we just have to let it fly, I just wish we saw other assassins doing this type of stuff in previous Seasons to give Aryas ability some perspective. For all we know she's the greatest Assassin they've ever had, or they're simply that good. Right now it seems like an easy way for the writers to get out of situations.

I wonder if the scene would have played better without that blow of wind or not. Arya literally seeming to appear from nowhere. The viewers could then wonder if she was up the tree, already there hidden in shadow or just ridiculously quick and make their own mind up. By giving us the gust of wind they have limited how it went without actually showing us.

I think it would be more poignant if Mel had burnt herself to set the fire too. Quite a few missed opportunites really.

It is in fact the same dagger used to try to murder Bran while he was recovering from his fall back in the first season.

I think she needed to be around to tell Arya that she had seen the future and that she wasn't going to die that night. Gave her the confidence to attack the NK.

Did they ever actually say that in the show? But still, we definitely saw more walking with the army.

I agree, they should have simply had the white walkers realise something was up by looking around imo, as if they were alerted but had no idea where from.

True. Could have had her do something like that though, she lifted the snow with the Shireen killing, maybe she could have created cover that would have explained how Arya could have been more sneaky.

Still, all in all, her arc ended well enough and I'm glad she played a big part.

The way the rest of the season has gone, a lot looks to be foreshadowed in the opening scenes. That includes Qyburn's spear and the dragon skull. I'd imagine that will be a big part. Also likely she's going to use an old get of jail card - the wildfire.

But I think in the end the Iron Thone gets destroyed just like it was forged - by dragonfire. It will likely be Drogon who is the biggest one. So nobody ends up on the throne in the end. And fade to black.

What I'm curious about (I may have dreamt this) but im pretty sure when she had her weird removal of necklace scene she was talking to someone. Given Mel made it clear that her mission was vital, it seems odd that her order only sent her when we've been shown at least 1 other Priestess. I guess they didn't want her coming with a band of mercenaries or additional Priestesses to cheapen her sacrifice I dunno.

Yeah I think it was probably all about having her sacrifice and making up for past mistakes. Any others with her would have probably cheapened that.

I'm wondering how they are going to fill the next episode now, they are all long ones left are they not? Brace yourself for plenty of "that was so boring!" posts next week I wager ;)

She faceswapped into a WW. When we saw them looking around, it was because they were confused one of their own started running towards the NK. When she swapped back to herself, it was too late.

Killing off major characters was a great idea at the beginning but if taken too far there would have been no one left to route for. If at the end Cercei and Jack Sparrow keep the Iron Throne with everybody else dead I'll think well meh that's a waste of 10 years.

Then why place in mortal dangers continuously and let them escape just for the cheap thrill. We know they cannot kill off main characters, but don't put them in places where it becomes so obvious that they have plot armour.
 
Well..... That was the definition of Anticlimactic.

Impressive sets and logistics for the episode, but oh so dark. And they cheaped out on parts of the CGI (bad resolution or in general very dark). Most hyped up episode and fight, but no explenation or understanding for why the Night Kings motives/background.

Feel like the longer the show goes on, the more it is about human relations etc and not about the worldbuilding and lore (which is arguably the best about ASOIAF). Without having read the books or watched certain youtube videos many viewers are left in the dark as for why certain characthers do this or that.
GoT was great to watch the first 6 seasons. Season 7 and 8 (thus far) is flat and have become "Marvelized".

Nah, we've discussed this already. If you kill a whitewalker they explode, there's no way she can take the face off one. They also all walked together into Winterfell so it seems highly unlikely she managed to separate and then kill one. While then taking the face and putting it on, rejoining the whitewalker group all in the time it took for them to walk to Bran.
 
Everyone needs to re watch with the brightness on their tv up full. Its like an entirely different episode.

There was a temporary moratorium after the initial US airing on spoilers due to the sheer volume of hype around the season premiere. It’s no longer in place.

Though there are still spoilers discussed by inconsiderate wankers from time to time...

This is pure fan fiction. Only one of them was shown to be startled by the wind which presumably was a result of her flying in.
 
Biggest questions reading through this thread is why so many people would want to watch Endgame
 
Big gripe for me is that NK should not have been Arya's to kill. It feels like they tied up loose ends with the wrong threads. Arya's training should have been building to her getting the revenge for the Starks on Cersei/Lannisters not the Night King. That should have been Jon's destiny. He and the Night King were intertwined and instead we got Arya handling it, after just seeing him for the first time

IMO it would have been cooler for Arya to avenge/save The Hound by killing the Mountain with the cool dagger drop and set up any of a number of more meaningful people to finish off Cersei - Jaime, Tyrion, Sansa, Dany, etc
 
Here is my problem with the episode -
- There was no systematic plan behind the battle. Just the Bran trap thing and nothing else. They really should have copied the two towers template and made it a case of dead trying to invade the castle. Dothraki charging them made little sense even if that light extinguishing scene was well done.
- WW were wasted, as were Briene and Jamie. Why not have Briene take on one of them or more? So many of the battle scenes just turned into a version of walking dead with people fighting off the dead.
- They again bottled killing anyone major. Needed a much bigger shock death. This is even worse than some standard Hollywood stuff now. Just think of Viper vs Mountain fight. If it happens this season there is zero chance it ends any other way than Viper winning.
- Arya killing NK scene needed to more clever. They telegraphed him dying at the last moment as soon as they showed everyone at the verge of dying/losing.

Finally, never been a fan of white walker stuff in the series, always more intrigued by the battle for the throne so I am glad that NK was not the main villain after all. In the end they made Night king way too powerful for the story.

I think since last season, writers have realised that they can't match writing of earlier season due to lack of source from books so they have turned this into a fan service vehicle to appease viewers, which to be fair is working wonders given how mainstream show is now. Despite some initial naysayers, most on social media are super pumped that fan fav character killed the most powerful villain of the series.
 
To those complaing about the darkness: Of course they had to use some tricks with their budgets. They obviously were not able to animate the whole episode with a massive authentic WW army together with the dragons, magic, fire, etc etc etc.

Also the darkness helped for the 'horror' feeling, so it was a good choice.
