Robb was a Stark though, and while he made a brainless decision by marrying Talisa, he was a great tactician. He was also far less of a 'i want to do it all' merchant than Jon Snow and was aware of his own limitations, refusing to fight Jaime 1 on 1.
I like the way they're all tense as feck on the off-chance the White Walkers just wipe out everyone and that's it.

Yes but that marriage was a poor tactical decision - he could have done it in a more deceptive way and he didn’t - leading to his death. For me being a great leader isn’t just being strong tactically on the battle field but politically too.

i think jon will kill bran in the next 3 episodes. I just think there's some unexplained connection between bran and the NK and that story isn't finished
Pretty good episode but not anywhere near 'the best TV episode ever'. Have accepted that they have limitations to fully pull this off with the budgetary restraints and enjoy the show for what it is. Sadly it does make me long for him to finish the books as they will do it it better but unfortunately the show is likely the only ending we'll ever get. Overall it's still an incredible show without being the best show around.

Of course being a leader is much more than just being great on the battlefield, but it's pretty clear Jon shouldn't be in charge of any armies at this point. He's far too headstrong and individualistic, he can't be relied upon to take a step back and think about the rest of the battle.

I think I need to give it a second watch. First time round was quite dark which was an issue.
For me it was a great episode and loads of fun, but with a few too many flaws to be a true masterpiece.
I honestly preferred Hardhome more as a battle.
I also think The Winds of Winter was a better episode.
I dunno, Bryan spent the entire battle watching it.

Yeah epic but again anyone who play Total War knows you don't throw away your cavalry.
There were some really good bits in that episode and some quite shit stuff.
Good stuff - Flaming swords and just priest woman flaming shit up in general, genuinely tense zombie mgs sequence with Arya that made me jump when they burst through the wrong door
Shit stuff - bottle job with killing more of the major characters to the extent that they were literally the only ones left at the end, Arya delivering an rko out of nowhere.
Oh and glad that others are saying it was too dark. I thought my TV was fecked. Was barely watchable at times.

True, but at the same time his death was kinda painfully obvious. Not sure there was one more likely than him.

Epic fight scenes and good build up of tension, But i can't help but feel let down with the death of the Night King ,never read any of the books ,but i was expecting him to last longer than that ,considering the whole series from the first season was leading up to this. Now it's down to Cersei being the main villain, be pissed if it ends up with her sitting on that throne.

Genuinely laughed out loud when Jon took one look at him about to be mauled to death and then just fecked off.
I had a similar reaction when Lyanna Mormont died. Her 'I'm a very angry little girl who IS JUST AS CAPABLE AS YOU' act got boring real quickly.

Great episode of television, had me on tenderhooks with a great ending. Loved every second.
Thats fine and dandy, but when your opponent can raise the dead that changes your plan. It's up to the commanders to ensure they're used correctly.
He comes across as a good person but quite dumb and naive in the books too. Hence the hole "you know nothing Jon Snow". Literally knows feck all.
But the show writers made him an extra level of dumb today. He had entered a staring contest with a wight dragon, for god knows what reason, and had Arya not pulled off the clutch he would've been thoroughly crispy.

Aye, if they're capable of crossing an entire continent and fighting in unknown terrain, they're surely capable of a slight tactical variation.
Having watched the ending of season 7 again, there were more than 2 giants but like you said, could have easily been burned anyway
I'm not even sure how they were feeding 40 thousand horses (alongside god knows how many troops, hiding civilians etc) in a frozen wasteland.

Sarri made his way from Serie A to the Prem, doesn't mean he can vary his tactics though. I suppose he'll get top 4 now but that's only due to the incompetence of the white walkers, such a good first half until a mistake from De Night King. What are we talking about again?
