Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Ruud10, I think Platato just found the notion of Bale being up there with such names laughable - even when you've said "I doubt he'll get to that level." You mention players like Di Stefano and Cruyff when there are so many levels before Bale is even close to them. Think of each generation of players and how many great ones there have been... there are just so, so many players above Bale in the Immortality of the Game stakes.

Imagine him and an on-form Nani on the wings for us?

That would be mental. :D

Bale is one of those players who get the fans excited when he gets on the ball running at people. We don't really have a player like that at the minute, not with Nani and his injury issues. Rooney was like that in the past, Anderson in odd bursts but not like that. Ronaldo was that player.

Not really, Nani's always been far more of a creator than Bale.

That's why I provided the caveat.

Bale is 24 years old and has already shown some pretty incredible stuff over the last three seasons, some of which has been against very good competition. I would never suggest he'd be the equal of any of those players I mentioned above, but you do get the sense right now that we're looking at a very, very special player -- far too good to waste his career with Tottenham Hotspur -- just about to hit his prime. We shall see how far Bale can take his game and whether he can be a significant, perhaps driving, force for a club that wins multiple domestic league and Champions League titles.

The caveat isn't enough to be honest, unless you don't mind having your opinion laughed at. There is simply not a football fan alive who would agree with you that Bale will ever be in the very top branch of those to have played a game. There are players like Bale in every single generation of footballer. Would you say Bale is any way more special than a player like Robert Pires was? Or Alan Shearer? Or Gianfranco Zola? I'm just picking names off the top of my head who played football in England in the last couple decades and I don't think Bale is any more "special" than them.

The discussion about Bale being one of the best players in the world (At this current time, not in the history of football) is still up for debate, bringing the subject of Football Immortality into it is just too much. It's exactly the sort of reaction to Bale's form this season that frustrates people.

Bale is ranked #8 in the PL on the "Key Passes per game" stat on WhoScored, which would suggest that the problem of him having so little assists has more to do with the finishing than his creating of chances.

He's made 68 key passes (in 30 games = 2.3 pg), 4 of which were turned into assists. Compare that to Rooney's 10 assists from 'only' 49 key passes (in 26 games = 1.9 pg). Rooney's key passes are being converted at a rate of 20%, Bale's a mere 6%. This could have to do with the quality of the passing of course, but a quick look at the conversion rates for RVP and Defoe/Adebayor (19% to 10%) and it becomes almost self-explanatory.

I know the phrase Ruud and your application of it is simply daft.

Now what's this? Copycat?

The idea that Bale isn't a creator just shows that people are still desperate to knock him. If Ronaldo, Giggs, RVP or whoever else were creating chances for Adebayor and Defoe, that have hardly any assists either. Adebayor in particular has got to be one of the worst strikers of the ball in the Prem. He kicks the ball like a 6 year old girl.

I had no idea what happened in the Spurs game when I sat down to watch MOTD. My reaction to that goal from Bale was to laugh out loud, and claim it's disgraceful that he's able to do such things with alarming regularity this season.

Who the feck does he think he is?

 Fantastic goal again, every goal is a dagger in the heart of Bale haters.

Who hate Bale?

Not rate him as highly as some, doesn't mean they hate him. If I say, I rate Mata higher than Bale, does it mean I'm a Bale's hater?

So.. if Spurs miss CL spot, Bale will cost a lot for us to get. Spurs won't be happy he's leaving of course and Spurs won't be happy we let their rivals (Arsenal+Chelsea) have soft games against us when we already won the league.

Cue a ridiculous high price (as always when we deal with Spurs)

Would love it if we got him tho.

It's trademarking the logo, not the celebration. It's still fecking gay and shit though.
It really grates on me how much he tries to be like other players (Ronaldo/Messi).

There's too many things for it to be a coincidence.

When I read the thread title these days I instantly see it as - Gareth Bale is... an asshole.

Does he?.Or is it something in the minds of some in this thread.

Typical Bale performance, except cracking shot at the end.

Btw, he even sweared as Ronaldo today.

Not sure if it's been mentioned but maybe we can sell Rooney and then buy Bale.

And give them Phelan as the bargaining chip.

Good, down to earth interview with Shreeves just now. Says he needs to work on his right foot, and will work on that during the off-season now.

When Shreeves asked him on his future, he didn't really commit to Spurs - I guess it was just a standard answer from a player that seems to think "If a certain someone comes in for me, I might go. Who knows?". (He didn't say those words).

Asked on his opinion on playing abroad - said he wouldn't mind experiencing it one day. Once again, standard answers.

This Summer will be an absolute muppet-fest if he doesn't sign a new contract.

Heard some whispers over the last few days that we're going to make a serious bid for Bale this summer. Hope they're true.
