Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

To be fair there's not much wrong in trying to emulate the second best player in the world and one of the best players of all time.

The media ******** is annoying but he is an absolutely devastating player and if you can't see it, well you don't really know sports too well.

Nani is better though.

If Bale played for us he'd be lauded on this forum. I think he's a cracking player and would have him here in a heartbeat.

I simply don't understand why he crosses it so rarely when he's potentially the best crosser in the league - and no-one realises it because he does it so rarely nowadays! In some of his league performances surrounding Bale's hat trick v Inter he showed a fantastic range of crossing, placing inch-perfect crosses on the penalty spot from withdrawn crossing positions or drilling them low to the back post for a tap-in. Two minutes before his cross to Lennon for the goal, he threw away a goal from the exact same position by going for that far-post finish that he loves so much. I think it was against Lazio that he did the same thing twice in 10 minutes and Defoe (?) went mental. I don't have the stats but I'm sure last season he crossed considerably less than he did in that 10/11 season. It's a shame. Perhaps he's just not as good a crosser as I first thought but for me if he could consistently deliver from a wide position then he'd be well on his way to being a world class winger.

I think it's blatant he's let the hype get to his head (literally, look at his ears and hair now) and believes he is on Ronaldo and Messis level, therefore he feels he needs to transform himself into an inside forward like them.

Bale's a fantastic player. I often hear many United fans try to imply he is on the same level as Valencia, but he's easily better. I'd take him at United any day, although I'd rather we got a different type of player to perform similar duties.

Valencia is better. Don't let the drop off in form fool you, Bale is far more inconsistent.

No chance for me. I actually think Bale is an entire level above. And I'd guess most of the footballing world would also agree that Bale is better than Valencia.

Götze should be our primary target. Won't get a better player for his price.

I'd guess we'd have equal chance of getting Ronaldo back than getting him any time soon.

I must say though, Isco is looking really sexy at the minute too, and he's definitely in the 'gettable' category, and for a reasonable price too.

Bale doesn't terrorize teams the way Valencia has done for us over the last 3 years

And whats wrong with that? I wish valencia had added variety to his game when he was younger. No idea why you are blaming someone for trying to improve his game.

Maybe hernandez should never have worked on his all-round game since he is a poacher and nothing else.

Read in the news that gotze has a 30m buy out clause.

I think we would be the perfect club for Bale and he would become a absolute beast of a player for us. Would also be that naturally left sided player we are lacking on the wings. It's clear for anyone to see he is a fantastic talent.

We can't afford him. Stop this.

it doesn't change the fact that he would be a great fit for our team. And you never know if we are willing to go as high as 40 and he starts demanding a move it could be possible.

I would love him at United. He's got a fast pace and great shot on him. Would be a great addition.

For me Bale is on a different planet to Valencia.

Maybe the last month but no way Valencia is a machine also but very close call, to have both on either flank would be devastating against any team.

Bale is also a machine. I agree with Brwned he's shown some great crossing ability in the past but seems to be less of a team player these days and wants to be the goalscorer himself.

Bale in better form than Valencia so suddenly he must better.

Bale is faster, a better goals scorer, a better crosser, better at free kicks, has a right foot and is pretty good in the air.

I like Valencia but what does he have over Bale in comparison?

Arguable, yes, no, yes, not that impressive, no

Consistency, aggression, helping his fullback, link up.

Consistency? Valencia has been hot and cold throughout his whole United career so far, as we are currently seeing. Take into account the age difference as well.

Your the victim of bias on this one, I think it would be hard to find anyone outside of United who prefers Valencia.

Separate to all this, surely Bale's biggest asset is that he's left sided, there's no need for any debate over who's better really.

Valencia rarely drops off form, instead he just happens to get injured. Bale is the model of an inconsistent player. Look at his stats vs. the top 4.

Who the feck cares if he's left sided? That's not an asset over another player it's just another option. And where Bale is playing at the moment, being left footed doesn't matter.

And why do people slate Lennon too?

Spurs are a good side now because they have lethal wingers. Nothing wrong with saying that. Just like Suarez is a cnut face but a pretty amazing player.

All of this coincided with him thinking he needs a free role now and no longer just sticking to the left wing. If he played as a true winger he'd be great, but currently he's not playing to any of his strengths at all.

I suppose you can discuss whether Valencia or Bale is the better player (but I'm firmly with Lynk on that one), but to suggest that Valencia isn't a hell lot more consistent than Bale is lunacy.

Right now is the only time in his United career that Valencia has been underperforming, aside from maybe after he broke his leg. To say that Valencia isn't consistent is just completely inaccurate.

Why do posters here keep persisting with this argument, as if they are oblivious to what's been happening on the pitch? He's had to adapt his game to cut in more as he was being marked out of games by teams doubling up on him. The signs were there last season that he was really suited to this role and this season it's really coming to fruition. Yet people still keep going on as if he isn't playing really well in his new role and he should revert back to being marked out of games.

He got in credible stick on this forum when he was playing as a pure LW. Now he's added more to his game and is proving a lot of people wrong, they seem to really resent him for it and look for really strange reasons to criticize. He's just scored in his last 3 league games and had a perfectly good goal disallowed against Lazio. So on the back of this, members of Redcafe decide he's not suited to his current role!

According to the Caf I assume Downing is developing very nicely as a LB and it's time Fergie started playing RVP back on the wing as he did at Feyenord.

You should care that he's left sided if you're team really needs a left sided player.

The more I think of it the more obvious it is, Bale's a class above, just look at some of the goals he's scoring. Valencia doesn't have those in his locker.

Look at what you say Valencia is better at, are they really the skills you look for in a winger, aggression, protecting the fullback. I'll take the guy with goals, the guy who's faster, more exciting. The guy with more skill basically.

This consistency argument is so short term, Bale's younger so obviously still developing that like any young player does. He's clearly improving in that regard.

Red tinted specs I'm afraid.

Exactly. And even this run of form might be due to a persisting hip injury for which he is receiving treatment for.

Look what Valencia does to teams, this season alone he was a game changer against Chelsea when his width exposed them, they decided to bring on Bertrand JUST to double up. Or against Arsenal when he tore Santos a new one and within 4 minutes United were ahead. He is a game changer.

Aggression and protecting the fullback are fecking vital, and if you don't know this you have no place judging football. Look at Chelsea this season. Valencia himself exposed their glaring weakness, when you don't have wingers who track back you get absolutely annihilated by width. Ever since that game Chelsea have been in a downfall. Bale was exposed against Arsenal, a game in which, consolation goal aside he did feck all, and with 10 men put in the most lazy performance I've seen from a winger, and let Walcott run rings at their young fullback.

Again, you're just taking trash. Bale isn't a hugely more successfull goalscorer than Valencia, on average he gets 2-3 more goals a season than him. Pace wise there isn't much in it, and Valencia on form is as exciting to me as any player in the league. I've read threads on RAWK and Arsenal-Mania calling Valencia the best winger in the league by far, and that says something.

I've seen him in this role plenty of times and he's never impressed me there. And telling me that he was being marked out of games as a left winger isn't exactly a great endorsement for his ability...

Bale is better. Valencia isn't even as consistent as some like to make out anyway, and even if he is, he is inconsistent at a level that is not as good as Bale. Bale is a better dribbler, better crosser, better at shooting and is a threat right across the front line.

I believe even our manager would swap Bale for Valencia if given the opportunity.

He's not a better crosser you muppets.

All those assets you mentioned "dribbling, threat across the frontline, better shot" could be applied to people like Taarabt or Balotelli, but that doesn't mean they're better either.
