They're goalscoring chances he helps create for teammates, not related to the goals he scores himself.
If ever there was a misleading stat.

It's not bollocks. To say it is is crazy. Stats show he puts in the 7th highest amount of accurate crossed per game in the Premier League. I suppose the people whose job it is to count these things are watching as carefully as you!
Of course those stats don't include the number of great balls he plays in that Spurs forwards don't get on the end of.
RVP has always looked more consistent than Bale though, and Bale does have a bit of an injury record too, tbf.
I know he only had one year left, but we probably had to pay extra since it was from Arsenal. RVP was also more of a proven player than Bale is, yet.
It's because he knows he's good and there's a group of people who don't like that(unless that player is at their club, in which case they love it).
7th highest = how many crosses per game?
I'm not sure where that comes from?
He seems like a nice lad when he's on TV and certainly isn't banging the drum about what a great player he is. if anything he's quite modest from the interviews I've seen.
still would take angel di maria over the welsh simian as i stated earlier in this mega thread.
Does anyone else think having someone like Bale for us in that game would not have made us very dangerous on the counter... he's been linked to Madrid and Barca but I can't help feel that if anything his style of play is best suited to featuring for us.
He is the perfect player for us.
Agreed.
And 50 million would be a bargain. Think that they would want 60 probably.
If Nani is flogged for half of that who knows?
Would be a sensational buy.

He'd have looked out of his depth unless he had 40 yards of space to run into. £50m for that is stupid when we have goals and creativity all over the squad.
Nani wouldn't go for more than £24M imo.
Bale is worth 50m IMO.
Current talent + potential future talent + British = 50m

Look at players who have gone for considerably less then that just recently. Suarez, silva, mata, fabregas, modric at around £25mil, Aguero at £35m. Bale isn't in a different league to any of those players nor would I say he's got more potential than most of them.
He might well be but I still don't think it justifies a 50m price tag. He's a good player with the potential to be great but the only way he would command a fee like that would be on the back of 2-3 seasons performing at his highest level consistently.
Rio as in, arguably the best central defender of his generation, or close to it.
50m is a lot more than 30m too.
Agreed.

It is akin to when we paid 30m for Rio, at the time it seemed crazy but over the years it has been proven to be good business. I think that the same would happen with Bale, he would be a key player for us for many years.
