Gareth Bale is...The most expensive player ever?!

Rio as in, arguably the best central defender of his generation, or close to it.

50m is a lot more than 30m too.

Different era. 25-30m transfers are common among the big clubs now. Bale is an attacking player too. IMO Bale has the potential to be a top 10 player in the world, thus a big fee will be required to prize him from Spurs.

£50m wouldn't be a bargain but it certainly wouldn't be outrageous. Van Persie at 29 cost around £16m a season if wages/fees are accurate, if you get Bale on £120k a week he'd be roughly the same over a 5 year contract.

RVP is obviously the better player now, but Bale has a similar potential and time on his side.

I never said it would be a bargain. I would say that a 38m fee, the same as City paid for Aguero would probably reflect the market in fair value.

That was like years ago, tbf. Anyways, wasn't Rio closer to 25 than 30 ?

29.1 I believe was the sum announced. With Leeds in financial trouble we ended up paying a little less on future payments because they needed the money right away. But That was the fee agreed in 2002.

With the big and rich clubs interested, 50m wouldn't be an outragous fee for Bale.

How much is the maximum people would be willing to pay for him ?

40m on him, 40m on Wilshere, 10m on Wanyama and not buy a player for the next five years :D

He missed that open goal on purpose to make the tie more interesting. He's that good. Messi & Ronaldo would both score that, like the chumps they are.

Fergie Fergie sign him up.

fecking Levy will demand a kings ransom though.

He's fecking world class. It's now undeniable and we all knew he'd score that free kick.

Won that freekick also.

Created a chance with a cross before that and then created a good shot attempt before too.

He's been unbelievable in the last month or so.

He is absolutely class. Anyone not admitting it now is being a fecking picky woman.

He's become one of those players who can just turn it on when he wants to, it doesn't matter what the opposition can do or are doing, he will always make something happen. Two absolute quality free kicks tonight when the rest of his game was maybe only average, he can still do that.

Take him on our left wing in a heartbeat. I think he is honestly the closest thing to Ronaldo. Sure, he's not anywhere near as good when you compare them directly, but he's got the pace, power, trickery, and shooting ability you'd want from any attacking player. Not just that, his work rate and engine is superb to boot.

3 free kicks in 2 games in 5 days is quite something. All three of then were special

He was quite poor, yet still managed to win the game single-handily.

Can't remember the last time someone other than Bale scored for Spurs. Dempsey?

That probably might be the only undoing for Spurs in the race for fourth.

Jeff Stelling: 'Better than Ronaldo and Messi put together'

That would do quite nicely. Stunning pair of free kicks, shows how far he's come, I wasn't expecting him to miss either of em in terms of making the keeper work.. unlike Ronaldo who is pretty hit and miss, Bale seems to be on target with most of his attempts.

Those 3 players - wow.. we'd be sorted in quite a few key areas.

I think we'll break the bank for him in the summer. Based on nothing really I suppose, just a gut feeling.

I can see Nani leaving, as well as Giggs calling it quits, so the spot will be there.
