It was a joke. But for some reason, a lot of people seem to think that this is a one off and United will bounce back. Personally I'm not that sure and there's still a lot of points to play for from here, people are talking like the season is about to end and United are safe with top 4 and a trophy. I wouldn't be hugely surprised if United limp over the line from here, but we'll see.

Exactly and I've a bigger problem with him repeatedly calling Bruno a whinger, than this sub comment, for that very reason. That reputation will stick and refs will be less likely to pay attention to complaints from him as Captain over it.

Yeah totally, I'm glad we all agree Martinez is too short for the PL, some real weight behind these pundits and their opinions. When they say something out loud, I just go blank and take everything they say as the gospel truth. It's impossible to form your own opinion after hours of watching players once they make a single claim on live TV.
What? Surely, if Bruno get's booked for whining at refs and therefore gets a reputation for it. it's on him and his whinging, not Gary Neville making a comment about him doing the thing that got him booked?

Nobody else is calling him a whinger and Gary isn't saying it about anyone else. He specifically uses the term whinging in relation to Bruno rather than using a word like complaining. He gets far too emotional and he should be more aware of the potential impact.
Officials do treat players differently based on their reputation and someone like Neville repeatedly banging that point home on Sky can affect how he's seen in general. It doesn't change the behaviour but it can change how it's perceived.

He didn't go at Bruno because he was just a whinger, he said lies about Bruno wanting to be subbed off, and then called him a disgrace. That's absolutely unprofessional and lacking any sense.
Find me one time he said anything similar about any English player playing for any club in the world, and I'll find you 100 worse performances by our players than Bruno's against Liverpool.

Bruno isn’t the only player moaning at refs? Keano loved it, Rooney did it constantly, the whole arsenal team did it at that time, all of Europe still do it…does it work for Bruno and us often? Maybe it does hard to say if it buys him free kicks/fouls/puts his marker off/gets a ref thinking a certain way in a game perhaps it does as we’ve only lost about once in the past 20 odd games right.

What other instance can you think of where a commentator has done something to that degree?
