I guess anybody can say anything, everybody has a little Bill Maher inside. But us judging them for that shit and expecting children or people with the life experience of always getting what you want and then retire from that lifestyle at 35 to guide us to a more ethical world cup is a little unfair. The greedy sons of even older people should deserve more scrutiny for knowing what they're doing and still choosing money over ethics. Most people would and people are better at judging other people's greed than their own, but alas and yadda yadda yadda.

But if you want political leaders or thought leaders, politicians and philosophers and possibly social scientists in some kind are probably more experienced and well-read about this schit than Neville, some random CB for a top10 nation, or Kanye West.

On the other hand, being any of those doesn't mean you're stupid either and your ideas could still be good. So while I think Bill Maher's opinion isn't necessary, nor is Neville's or Ye's, that doesn't mean they or other celebrity guest panelist is immediately full of bollocks in any topic concerning stuff outside of their main profession. I'm sure you have occasionally spouted an interesting idea about things that don't necessarily have to do with your experience with sass and I want you to feel free to share those thoughts. And I feel the same about jolly Gary, even if I think it doesn't really matter what he thinks about Qatar and what the best way is to deal with the ethics situation in their human rights department.

If his prescence on QT generates interest then thats his purpose served. Personally I'd like much more informed social and political discussion on TV but this is as much as we can hope for just now, getting people to engage.

If you're just going to express a personal opinion, then anyone can do that. They could just as well get anyone from the audience to come on the panel. They had Brian Cox on Thursday night and he was just giving his own opinion on things which he knew nothing about and has no personal experience of.

Come to think of it, that sounds a bit like a certain internet forum we both frequent. :nervous:

Yeah I totally get you on the merits of what they are actually saying, but if their celebrity gets people to tune in then that's better than nothing. There are lots of in-depth political podcasts and the like an nobody tunes in.

Piers Morgan was on the panel on Thursday, I think he's enough to get people tuning in. Brian Cox adds nothing to the debate. Not that Piers Morgan adds a great deal, but at least, whether you agree with him or not (invariably not) at least he's got some experience of talking to people who have half a clue about stuff.

Morgan has experience in shameless self promotion. While his position during covid was remarkable, I will tip my hat to him there.

Back to Neville, I see no excuse in working for Qatar, taking sponsorship from a betting company then acting all high & mighty when talking about deceny and morals in football ownership.

He's got some cracking insight on the actual game but I draw the line at his authoritive tone when spouting nonsense.

As for his politics, I personally welcome public figures stating their position but let's all be clear. He's no champion of the people, he's a centrist, which is to say, he's economically right wing (and therefore a right wing enabler) but with more socially liberal views.

Absolutely agree and have thought the same. I could be way off the mark here but have thought that he's simply uninformed on politics and being such a public champion of the Starmer team because he (rightly) can't stand the Tories but (wrongly) has no idea of the evils he's supporing and probably doesn't have in depth opinion.

I'd guess the Labour leadership are loving the prospect of using him like a pawn when they can.

Conflicting position as I'd still take that mob over the incumbents, who represent the worst of us.

I remember Gary standing outside Manchester town hall in December 2020, fronting a campaign from one of the city's most odious PR agencies to get workers back into town. Anyway, a week later we entered the worst wave of the pandemic and I've never taken anything he's said seriously since. Being anti-Conservative now isn't being a 'man of the people', it's just seeing the way the wind is blowing.

Workers getting paid 250 monthly is a shite wage in any part of the world. Taking advantage of the poor is the way of these Gulf sheikhs. Sure, there's not much equality anywhere but workers being paid monthly as much as some folk are paying for their meals in western Qatari restaurants is disgusting. Apparently the authorities hold workers' passports so they can't go back home, they also have to pay off their plane tickets. Now this 'this doesn't sit well' with Nev...whilst running to the bank with his Qatari money.

Nonsense, it’s people like yourself babbling on about an academy product rightly being put in your place. He was god awful last year, but the season before managed 20 goals despite requiring surgery for most of it.

Absolute bollocks. There’s not a club in football who would’ve sold Rashford and if he’s on the market there isn’t a club who wouldn’t want him.
